Gunhild Carling (born 7 May 1975) is a Swedish jazz musician and multi-instrumentalist.[1] She is famous for playing three trumpets at the same time.[2] Carling became known for her performance at Allsång på Skansen on July 20, 2010. The same year, she became an expert commentator for Dansbandskampen at SVT. Gunhild plays trombone, bagpipes, trumpet, recorder and harp, and will often showcase all of her skills in one song, sometimes casually breaking into a tap dance or singing lyrics. [3] Carling competed as a celebrity dancer in Let's Dance 2014 on TV4, placing third.[3][4] In 2013, she performed with her 'Carling Big Band' at the Royal Palace in Stockholm in the celebration of King Carl XVI Gustaf's Ruby Jubilee.[5] In 2016, Carling performed at King Carl XVI Gustaf's 70th birthday celebration.[6] She is featured as a singer and multi-instrumentalist in several of Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox's adaptations of pop songs, which include a jazz swing version of Rick Astley's "Never Going to Give You Up", a 1920s jazz swing version of "Material Girl", a vintage jazz version of Europe's "The Final Countdown", a jazz cover of Pharrel Williams' "Happy", and a 1920s hot jazz cover of ABBA's "Dancing Queen".
Oh my God, where do you find these people? This woman is absolutely out of this world! I just watched a video of her singing dancing queen, while tap dancing and playing the trumpet better than most famous musicians, and now she’s playing the trombone to, and just kicking it, absolutely unbelievable! This woman is a one woman show all by herself! I am absolutely blown away! I played the trombone for 18 years, and couldn’t even get close to what she’s doing!
Her singing isn't effortless. She's got breath support issues (speaking from experience). Which sounds weird to say, since she can play so many other instruments, but something about her singing is a bit off. However, she shreds it on the trombone/other instruments, and she's a hell of a performer, so she's an embarrassment of riches when it comes to talent!
You need to check out "Barbie Girl" and "Umbrella" and "Creep" and "All About That Bass" and "Mad World" and "Crazy" the Gnarls Barkley version and . . . . . well, you get the point.
I never thought in my life that I would hear the final countdown on the trombone Sometimes life gives us what we need without us ever asking or even realizing we needed it
This channel might be worth watching just for the dresses, even if there wasn't any music! But then this woman has that *amazing* voice, plays the trombone, and even dances a little, and she *still* manages to put the time and effort into looking so good in the aforementioned dress?! Is she even human?!
Gunhild is a hoot and Scottie was tearing up that piano! Would love to see a duet of Gunhild and Casey, not sure if UA-cam could handle that much crazy enthusiasm!
What a Queen-size talent! It’s no wonder this incredible lady has played for the King of 🇸🇪 Sweden at least twice! She puts on a Commanding performance on every song she does! She makes this hair metal band classic her very own with her own makeover!!!
THIS is one of the greatest renditions of this song. PERFECTLY conducted in the 1920s genre. WHY IS THIS NOT MORE POPULAR PEOPLE!!!!!! Listen and enjoy
PMJ is like magic in that it takes songs I don't like or annoy me and make them great. Genuinely great musicians making songs as good as they can be instead of crappy pop songs.
Gunhild Carling just researched her and I would love to see her live if she ever comes to Florida. I can certainly appreciate Jazz and vintage style voices
Been to 2 of Gunhild's concerts at Blues Alley in DC. Wow, what a performance! 1st time, she mainly played the trumpet and trombone. Plus she played the flute, recorder and bag pipes. The 2nd time, she played mostly the trumpet. She had her teenage daughter on the trombone and adolescent son on the clarinet. She has a very talented family. If you like this style of music, go see her in concert. You won't be disappointed.
Эта дамочка просто перевернула Europe. )))))))))))))))))))) Она не только поёт но, и играет на сложному духовом инструменте с ТИЛЬДОЙ! КАРЛ! Жму ей руку!!!!!!! Умница!

She is the most talented person in this channel. I got to know her in the clip and then I found her channel. Besides singing with swedish accent (perhaps that's why she picked this and dance queen songs) she plays every wind instrument amazingly well. Then she plays every other instruments too. She is an amazing teacher/mother, and great and kind band organizer. My hat off to her.
Same! I was happy to see a new video, then I was horrified when I saw what song. Decided I'd listen to it to see what he changed... was NOT disappointed! Loved it!
Holy Lord, when she started ripping on the 'bone, with incredible lush notes, using the mute, and just tearing it up, I wuz smitten with awe. Gunhild Carling: we are not worthy! And that final, raspy, quavering note was an amazing coda...
No me canso de escucharlo. Excelente músico. Excelente arreglo. Me gusta más esta versión que la original. Demasiado talento. Esa señora es pura energía
LOVED the arrangement as usual and I've been craving for seeing PMJ and the marvelous Gunhild Carling together again!!!... So thank you for this guys! ;)
I remember clearly when she got on the stage at a jamsession, 16 years old, and blew all trumpet- and tromboneplayers alike off the stage with such power you wouldn't believe it. A true force of nature! 😁
Great to catch up with Postmodern Jukebox again! I had forgotten this clip! I have been watching a lot of Gunhild Carling lately on UA-cam, including her 'Livestream' with her large mixed band on a terrace of a flat in what looks like a sheltered community with a central lawn, somewhere in California! The Band includes Adam Kubota on Double Bass! I guess this was when she first met him (unless you know differently)!
I'm originally a heavy metal person. And despite I still consider myself to be young.... I'm a metal guy since 15 years (regreting to admit I'm turning 30 this year). But this is just pure gold. I am so much into those "20s to 40s" style videos I almost start to forget I started out as a heavy metal guy... seriously. Not just this video but a lot of others aswell from PostmodernJukebox. Greetings from Germany, keep up the fantastic work. Get me even more addicted. I'd like to hear some Katatonia one day in 20s style but I guess they are not famous enough?
'I'm a metal guy since 15 years ago' - just to let you know correct english is 'I've been a metal fan for 15 years' since doesn't make sense in the context of your sentence - it's a common mistake.
Same here, also of a similar age :) I've had an appreciation for jazz for a while, but I came across a tv advert last year that had a jazz cover of The Cardigans' Lovefool on. I loved it, and it just so happened to be covered by Scott Bradlee's PMJ. That's how I discovered these videos and they have been a pleasure to watch
Wow! Absolutely brilliant trombone parts! ... there were no weak parts at all, but I mean the 'dialogue' between the trombone and the other voices (incl. her own) was so amazing and unique! Bravo!
O God! She is charming, brilliant, marvelous, burning out! I don't have enough words to express. Look at her face expression! The best performer i've ever seen!

cobbieism wow! I’ve always wondered about her! Thank you!
She's preformed for the King of Sweden? What an honour!
with all of that talent in her resume i would very much like to see her showcase it in AGT just to watch everybody get blown away.
Don’t think I want to know how she played three trumpets at the same time! 😯😲

I think, contrary to popular belief, there are many talented people out there. Some are just a little more than others, heh.
I imagine they leave cool vintage objects around like trying to attract a crow and then they find these people (this is a joke)
"where do you find these people"? Epic question. You are in touch with the divine; it is happening to me all the time! Just saying! Mic drop! 🥰
Saw a video of her doing a jazz/blues song - on the bag pipes of all things

Sweden.
She makes it all seem effortless she is that talented. What a hell of a woman.
Her singing isn't effortless. She's got breath support issues (speaking from experience). I think anyone would have breath issues after playing trombone then trying to sing.
The vocals were impressive enough (with a real Billie Holiday vibe), but the trombone just took it to the next level.
To be honest, first time I've sussed the lyrical content: Ok, not all to the vocalist - the arrangement takes the credit too.
Wow. That is awesome! Bravo!
Lawd lawd baby jesus good good that trombone
the hair and dress reminded me of the actress May West
This may just be the most original, well executed cover of any song I've ever seen!
You need to check out "Barbie Girl" and "Umbrella" and "Creep" and "All About That Bass" and "Mad World" and "Crazy" the Gnarls Barkley version and . . . . . well, you get the point.
Agreed.
Joseph Greene, 10,000 (3/17/2018) viewers would disagree.
AtinPiano "most original cover" she is talented but tries to sound like Billie.
Something's seriously wrong with you, buddy, go get some therapy, like an electroshock.
Of all the vocalists, she's the most "vintage" of them all
Yeah I imagine her audition was pretty much prefunctory.
scott v look like you haven’t heard of cristina gatti
She sounds like Billie Holiday.
@@Lama-dt5ii yea I wish they'd have Cristina back, she was my favorite. But she still performs with them on tour.
Gunhild comes from a musical family and has a BIG following in Europe. And she can play pretty much every instrument.
I never thought in my life that I would hear the final countdown on the trombone

She also plays trumpet
Check out her channel as well, it's amazing
She's a dream girl
Just about died with the "mute" for the trombone... Love this!!
It is a real gift when you meet real artists on YT
what an amazing woman.. pure talent.. great cover guys ❤
mike- rayner-videos well said.
You underestimate her by saying pure talent.. She also has looks, creativity and most importantly years and years of hard work and dedication.
she is a Swedish Jazz musician ;D
To all the previous comments (absolutely correct) , I would like to add, that is the meanest, dirtiest trombone playing ever
I noticed some amazing guys too.
So skilled all of you! I'm 28 and I wish all modern music had this quality to it.

a cover I didn't know I needed.
The nonchalant way she grabbed and discarded the "mute", lol. I love this girl. She got moxxy!
There are several mutes on the market ($30 and up), but real trombonists use a plunger, couple bucks from the hardware store
Well, it's not like you can use a toilet plunger without a handle for much else.

babpipes also
