So thankful for this link!!!!
Omg yes!! I was dying for the crushed cuke salad recipe
That chicken don't look organic
Question, how do we get to become best friends with June? Thanks. 😂 but really she’s like ridiculously likable.
Aside from June's genius and resourcefulness with budget and recipe creation, it is SO REFRESHING to see food being cooked in a REAL kitchen, not one that has been glammed up for the cameras or stocked with inaccessible and pretentious gadgets. I'm so inspired seeing someone make do with what is on hand all the time, and presenting it with an honest and endearing personality (not the overly saccharine fakeness one sees on many cooking shows). June you're my hero!
I absolutely loved watching her work in that conservative space. Takes talent, that.
Yes that's so nice
I know I loved it too! I cook a lot but I always complain how small our kitchen (it's kinda same size as her kitchen maybe a little narrower) but I'm like if she can make all that food so can I :)
I'll never complain about my lack of counter space again!
Indeed! I esp love how she plans her process to make full use of everything. Chicken skin oil, fry peanut, fry onion and then make chilli oil with what's leftover BAM! It's how mothers realistically cook and it's so smart and respectful of the ingredients!
Aaron doesn’t drink water, it’s too bland for him. He just drinks chili oil.
Hahaha
Have you met *Strictly Dumpling* on UA-cam?

I appreciate that these budget meals are actually budget friendly. Other UA-cam channels are like "oh this is my super budget meals for the week that anyone going through financial tightness can do" and the meals consist of salmon and steak
Or require a bunch of ingredients/spices that are expensive that they see as pantry items or they show the price by how much you use and by portion size.
Every vegan UA-camr: this is my budget meal

watching this back and realizing that we've been lucky enough to hear June's mom on these videos is kind of like a time capsule. Many kind wishes and condolences to June n her family :(
What happened?
@@ARP199 ive read another comment that Junes mum passed away :(

@@MrSameerMalik1 😆
People who complained about her not using meat have never struggled. If you only have $25 you stretch that, It's between buying a pound of ground beef, or some rice and beans and veggies, you go for the option with more food everytime.
Really tho. My family once went almost a year w/o meat despite it having been a pretty common occurrence in our house. It sucked, and we got stuck eating more fruits than food until things changed. Only way we got meat is if someone broght it over. At least were were able to have fruits, I knew people in worse situations who couldn't even have that.
That and the fact that lots of people don’t eat meat anyway
So true!!
I picked up cooking stews from prior generations in my family. The family was always super huge and so it was the easiest way to make a whole lot of food with a little protein for cheap. I still make it at least once a week. Love this video. You are so right.
I like fried egg sandwich when I’m hungry and want a quick bite.
Can we just talk about the fact that she used the same exact dough for roti, bang bang noodles, AND dumplings like all some of the hardest stuff to make. What a culinary genius my goodness
Forget the $25 budget, Im just impressed she kept her stove-top so clean!
This is amazing because she was completely transparent about her food, it's failures, where it could improve, how many ingredients she used, multi-purposing everything, calling her mom for advice, working with small kitchen space, all that, and it was one of those videos that more people can relate to, cause not everyone has a pantry with extra virgin olive oil or vegetable shortening or wine or nutmeg or whatever. There's not a lot of content I can comfortably watch for almost an hour, so I really love this.
That's what a cooking show should be. Not every recipe is going to come out perfect and sometimes food spoils faster than you think.
So true! She's so honest, and appreciative for any feedback, showing that she wants to improve her skills (which are already freaking amazing!). If she ever opens a restaurant or food truck -- anything -- I'll be there! :D I really wanna make scallion pancakes now. haha
@@andrewwalker2888 I'd fricking buy a plane ticket to NYC if I had to, just to try some lol
Agreed. But,... the only issue with this entire video was Aaron
@@witnessingdaily4327 why?
Watching this made me realize how hard it is for people who actually have to stick to a 25$ budget not for a challenge but out of compulsion . I pray and wish all of you watching this video never lack money or good food and blessed with abundance and success and health .

yeah I agree. if anyone is on a strict budget, i recommend trying the mobile app PICKL, it pays shoppers $5 to take pictures of products on grocery store shelves.

Rewataching these videos and June never needed Delish, Delish always needed June more. June is a wonderful, talented, inventive, caring and genuine person and it shines thru in every video. Delish fucked up not doing right by her. She deserves more and I hope she finally is able to get it.
We don't know what happened. If she was contracted to produce a certain amount of content, and she wasn't meeting her obligations - that's not on Delish.
@@mimad4923if you actually read the business insider article written about this you'd know that has absolutely nothing to do with the reasons given to her by Hearst to justify her firing, nor the actual reasons she and her union rep think were why she was fired. get Hearst's boot out of your mouth, lol
@@rockpooladmirer wtf are you talking about? I don't even know know who Hearst is 🤣 I was just pointing out that if she had a contractual obligation to do something, and didn't - they have a right to fire her. It's not that deep.
I love that even June has “I need to call my Mum” moments during cooking.
I think that was one of my favorite parts. Very cute, very real.
It hits a little different now. I'm sure it's nice she had these moments.
Rule in my house, chef never does the dishes. If you didn't cook dinner, you do the dishes. It's a fair trade for a meal I think.

All my mothers family said it.

My brothers use every single dish in the house. I make the mess, I clean it up. Next person to cook cleans their mess.
@mastersleib it doesn't matter. doing the dishes is a way to show appreciation for the meal someone cooked for you.

Aw. Tfs!
I appreciate the use of "less than perfect" produce.
That's one thing I love. She goes to get something out of the fridge and it's spoiled. That's real life. This is real cooking
You’d love imperfect produce then
Never eat molded produce- the mold spores spread throughout the produce and don’t have to be directly covered in mold to still be spoiled by the mold.

@@heathercommonsense377 It sounds like you're trying your best :)
5 meals with one hen? That sounds like a Jesus miracle.
I’m so confused why the comments seem to hate Aaron. He never said anything rude just gave his honest feedback and she was never upset. 7/10 is not a bad rating and it just goes to show how sensitive people are that they think so. 7/10 means “good solid meal, not great or amazing.” Not every meal is 10/10 and that doesn’t make it bad. There is a ton of space between bad and amazing. Sounds like some people only want to be told everything they do is perfect no matter the truth.
My impression is that June makes fantastic meals all the time that Aaron now has such high standards. Plus I appreciate his honesty- as long as it's not with my cooking lol
Right? I mean, she's asking for his feedback.
I understand why people are hating on Aaron in the comments. June puts a lot of work into cooking and budgeting - his critiques aren’t even constructive criticism, it’s just him nitpicking. If you want more flavour (not salty, sweet, or spicy enough), you add it in your meal afterwards - even professional chefs can’t cater exactly to their customer’s tastebuds 100%. It’s not considered to be “sensitive” if some people find him to be annoying. If he actually gave some constructive criticism, people wouldn’t find him to be annoying. Truthfully, he needs to lower his “standards” if you’re cooking on a tight budget - what is he expecting, a 3 Michelin star meal?
Man she is talented, frugal, has initiative, clever and a great sense of humour. Does he realise what a diamond 💎he’s got??
He doesn't.
PERIODT ! FACT
I agree..I loved it all..and yeah..I do believe he does know!! Amen
I think he does work the way he compliments her
No. I'm thinking she should start making 16 Meals for 1. Let him cook for himself.
At first, I thought Aaron was being TOO honest with his reviews lol but then I realized that it's probably because June relies on his honesty when she's developing recipes and doesn't get offended anymore.
I loved how honest he was. My bf literally says he loves everything no matter bad or good, which he does he eats it all. as long as the food is homemade he devours it. he lived alone for 7 years relying on instant noodles and fast foods and the past 3 years that we've been together has been a dream coming true so he doesn't complain about anything so I have to find my own flaws and make my cooking better which is not easy
When he said 7 i was offended and I can't even taste it lol

I love how you call your Mom when you have a question. I did the same thing with my own, but she’s gone now. Cherish all the moments!!!
her mom passed away too :(
I know she was just calling her mom about a vegetable but I love that no matter how old we are, in whatever situation we're in, the most reasonable solution is to always call mom lol. How do they manage to know how to fix everything?? I'll even call my mom when I know the situation is completely out of her control. But somehow she still make it better.
That did make me smile and I remembered I call my mom for things I might think are huge deal but she makes out seem sooo little and easy to fix .
I know right, I love that!
So true! Miss you , Mamma .
Actually she asked about the lotus roots which had turned black and asked what to do about it which mom replied just to cut it off.

June is amazing. I love how she sticks to her budget and adapts to what is available. June is so much fun to watch and listen to. She never gets discouraged. Awesome job!
Can June please walk us through her must-haves in the kitchen (spices/oils/fridge condiments)?!
That’s what I was thinking too. Need a lot of “basics” to get going. Lovely cooking.
I think this is a necessity! Before I started in Asian cooking I was overwhelmed by the condiments/sauces/spices/oils. Had a friend take me to an Asian market and tell me what to buy. Honestly, that first trip was like $50 but I had ANY and Every thing a recipe could ask me to use. Then I experimented, found our favs, and now only restock what we use. MUST-MUST-HAVES are rice vinegar, sesame oil (found Waaayyy cheaper at asian markets than Walmart), honey, and quality soy sauce (kikkoman, be gone!), CJ Foods new crop short grain (sushi rice), rooster Sriracha sauce, toasted sesame seeds. These have to be restocked monthly at my house. Best wishes 😘
Yeaasss!!!
I was thinking that too!
Yess
Can we please get this woman a cooking show on Food Network? She has the perfect personality to have a full produced show on a set with a wonderful full kitchen! Really enjoyed watching her make all of these affordable meals :)
apparently there were plans for it to be made into a TV show. from the business insider article about June and what happened between her and Delish/Hearst, it seems that at least one reason why she was hesitant for it to be made into a TV show was that it would dilute the honesty of it. and I agree. the appealing factor of this for so many is that it's realistic, achievable, comparable to viewers' home kitchens. a home kitchen, not a fancy studio one.
This feels almost more pertinent now that inflation is taking hold, and affecting the groceries I am able to afford. These are inspiring me to be creative, and feed myself, even when my pantry feels sparse.
Does June have her own channel? I could watch her all day simply because she makes so many foods from scratch. 😍😍

This is the best way to REALISTICALLY learn how to cook. So many cooking shows require a long list of expensive and exotic ingredients for a single dish. this is so much more creative and inspiring.
No shade, but when all he does is complain about it not being hot enough then coughs that it's too peppery. I laughed so hard. You are so skilled! Love this video.
same lol
he said he murdered it with extra chilli oil, but yeah i lol'd too
It’s not under-appreciated, but constructive criticism. And a few times she asks what he thinks too. As a cook she probably wants to know what she can improve on for the tastes of others but she takes it all in great stride. I personally wouldn’t complain at all if someone made all of that food but I’m not her partner who feels they can be open and honest.
Well, hot is one thing, peppery is another, at least for me.
Studio619 not really, for me pepper spicy has a different taste than chili spicy. I can eat food with a lot of pepper, but not so much chili.

If everyone in America was this conscious and frugal we would have so much less food waste. She Is a queen ❤️
I get what you're saying but I would like to point out that the vast majority of food waste in America is completely unnecessary and manufactured. As in, grocery stores are throwing out tons and tons of perfectly good food every day simply because they're approaching their expiration date, rather than giving it to families in need and people who can't afford to buy those products. Food waste isn't really because of of the average consumer, it's because of the massive companies who are only willing to sell food for monetary gain.
I worked at a grocery store and ceena is correct. They toss ALL deli food because people could sue if they get sick, Same as bakery and thats the department I worked. I had to toss 2-3 shopping carts piled high because again people could sue....welcome to sue happy USA🇺🇸
Cenna Noble if they gave away the foods ppl would wait till they got em
@@mystory3998 If they were giving it away to the less fortunate, say at food banks or homeless shelters, then the only people who have access to it would be the less fortunate. Second, even if they just gave it away at the store, I still think that most people to take it would be the people who need it, because in that case, people who are more well off would instead be paying for freshness. They'd be paying for a fresher product than what's being given away.
Cenna Noble i agree but America is full of assholes who don’t want to help each other and it truly sucks. It’s hurtful cause i end up giving everything i have away when i see homeless people and i don’t have the income to afford that. I don’t even have a job anymore and yet here i am doing this

The thing I love about this series is the way June uses everything, especially rendered animal fat. It's one of the great secret weapons in cooking and it's basically free.
True, it adds so much flavor.
Also love all of the recycled food and takeout containers being used instead of bespoke food containers and jars! In our house, everything was stored in old CoolWhip and margarine tubs. If you were looking for margarine, you were in for a bad time.
It's also an artery blocker. If you eat chili it can clean out the arteries though. Overall she's hard to fault and really enjoys what she's doing so it's fun to watch. Witty too.
@@deborahcurtis1385 Given her other ingredients and the portion sizes, that bit of lard won't clog up anything even without the chili. It's not necessarily the chili spices that cleans out the arteries, it's the phytosterol from any vegetable which blocks cholesterol from being absorbed, so as long as enough vegetables are eaten. Couple that with adequate exercise, other lifestyle things such as avoiding smoking, and it generally won't be an issue.
@@deborahcurtis1385 that's a myth. Inflammatory foods such as seed oils and processed foods are rhe source of clogged arteries. The stomach acids break down animals fats very well

25:11 Dinner #4 dumplings/potstickers filled with carrots, garlic, ginger, green onions, mashed potatoes, finely diced chicken, "miscellaneous" green peppers, 6 spice, green citron pepper corn (sorry if I spelled those wrong), msg, soy sauce, sesame oil; dipping sauce for potstickers; smashed cucumber salad with msg, salt, chili oil, sesame oil, freshly grated garlic;
31:13 Dinner #5 Scallion Pancake Roux with a spicy topping and "throw everything in the pot" spicy soup with chicken meatballs
37:21 Dinner #6 Red Cabbage Okonomiyaki, osaka style. Basically a very large pancake with eggs, cabbage, potatoes, and other leftovers. "It's sort of like a coleslaw omelet."
40:58 Dinner #7 Dosas (spelling?) with leftover brown rice and coconut milk; Sweet and Sour Tamarind Fried Pork with onions; fried peanuts with misc green peppers and other things (I don't remember what else).
46:07 Dinner #8 Omurice. Slaw with red cabbage and grated carrot, rice with lots of things in it, scrambled sort of eggs with reduced bone broth, Okonomiyaki sauce, a sprinkling of fried peanuts and spring onions.

Thank you 🙏🏾
Thank you!!
This was not only a great breakdown-recap of the video itself , but now I can easily find the dishes/recipes I liked the best.
Thank You !
Thank you! This goes great with the link!
Dank je.
So jealous that you actually can find budget friendly produce -- food is so expensive where I live and farmers markets are only available 2 days of the week. Love your creativity!!
You all need to get over to Junelikethemonth and subscribe! June is on form!
Other youtuber's who do this challenge: eats bread with free catsup packets on the 8th day
June: makes a feast every single time
Dude she’s great thou many UA-cam’ food budget challenges are and I’ve never seen them cheating with ketchup on toast thou often like in June’s example ketchup nor soya sauce ect is included so drumroll funny one to that beat ;)
This. Was. 🤯🤯🤯 So inspiring
Netflix needs to give her a show - “Budget Eats”
This!👏👏👏👏👏👏
I understand your point, but eventually she'll run out of ideas, or keep cooking the same thing, it'd get boring fast :(
June is ABSOLUTELY ready for her own show!
THIS
Yeeessss!
Love this video! Great food, brilliant sticking to your budget and you didnt skimp on showing just how much work delicious food takes! Inspirational.
Awww. I just got all choked up when you called your mom. RIP
If y'all keep hating on Aaron I'm going to have to eat both portions alone on the next episode 😭
People make so many judgements on some 10 second clips, you guys seem like a great duo! Thanks for the quarantine vids, I've really enjoyed them!!!
I was so surprised by those comments! I liked his comments and I think it's super important to have honest unfiltered feedback.
Marvelous June, you and Aaron deserve better than people beating on him! (meaning well I'm sure because they assume you need the same level of approval they would). You're so gifted and it sounds like he is super knowledgeable / food professional too - so his high praise is truly a win. It's a pleasure to create for someone who knows what one is capable of and gives honest praise!
Please keep Aaron in! Don’t banish him. Stuff the heaters. 😄
They're all bonkers if they think that "food experimentation" should only be met with wild 10/10 applause every single time! What would be the point of that! Can't experiment if everything is always perfect.
Love it when June calls her mom about the lotus.
Moms the og chefs!!!
I simply cannot get enough of June's Budget Eats!!
Dear June, I am sitting on my couch, eating peanuts and watching this video and I just realized how much I love your Budget Eats Videos. I can't really put it in words but I love it so much. Thank you :)
Idk how I didn’t realize this was 50 min long until I already watched a lot of it
I realized that just now seeing your comment
Omg lol
wait what... omg and i watched it all without noticing it hahaha
Bruuuuh😭😭
lol I realized by day 6 and seen your comment and it made me check the time. Damn!
I love how you still call your mom for advice. You’re so fun to watch!!
Who doesn’t?!

This is SUCH a great idea and sooo impressively executed!!
I am just blown away! The background you give for each dinner is absolutely a 10+!
I’m subscribing because I absolutely love this week’s menu and a lover of this food. I would eat this food 3 times a day, 365! ‘My’ husband loves red chili oil, and you’ve given me an easy, understandable way to make it for him. Thank you!
"Just because one is poor does not mean their food must be bad."

Oh, I see you are a man of culture as well
Ah, a fine quote, my liege
Mrs
Ahhhh, wish I could work in her kitchen as well
Never heard of her, just looked her up. Shes like a classy sassy british Townsend.
The most impressive thing was how little countertop space she has, while cooking very difficult recipes. 👍
I love watching you create! The way you handle your veggies is impressive. Those "meatballs" look amazing. I can taste that bit of ginger with the garlic and vinegar. I have to say you've inspired me to try my hand. Brilliance is hard to come by. Thanks for sharing yours ❤
I love Aaron’s honest reviews and I love how you never get offered 👌 great job 👏
Why are people being so mean about Aaron's comments? He told her multiple times that she's a miracle worker, the best chef in the world, etc., which was hella sweet! But considering that this is a cooking show, and the way that June was giving honest reviews of her own food, I thought he was totally valid in saying what could be better (nobody was expecting 10/10s every time, this was more about budget than taste). Actually, in this case, constructive criticism is way more helpful than fake praise. Y'all tryna say that just because he gave honest feedback (which it seems like June directly asked for) it means he wasn't grateful for the food???
I would much prefer the truth that smoke being blown up my keister! I say 'what do think? Worth making again?'
Absolutely. Plus, this video is edited. We don't see everything.
@@MJ-oi5wb absolutely this! I'm learning to cook now and hate when my parents lie or aren't honest. like you have to eat this food too dad! and because I have a very picky palette and honestly can't taste the difference in food sometimes with seasonings, I have to rely on them. they make me mad and I wish ppl were honest when I make food. I don't want to offer food only for my friend to not like it or something
Ungrateful Aaron you mean
I agree with you. People hate truth and are idiots.
this is skill, this is what i expect if someone says "I can cook!", being able to make something out of nothing, create wonderful dishes with what you have, instead of buying 37 ingredients and following a recipe to the t.
i'm a trained chef and this was an absolute delight, loved every second!
U truely inspires me to cook! Love how u made full use of all ingredients and ur creativity to make such nice meals, at such affordable price too. U r my food goddess from now on haha
UA-cam is such an amazing multifaceted app. There’s something for everybody. I’m happy this video was recommended. Thanks June 🤝 nice to meet you!
I havent been able to watch more than a 6 min vid in over a year and i just watched a 52 min one. June is special
@7다라 sameee it was so entertaining
Omg. This video was 52 minutes! I should have been doing homework .
I haven’t even noticed it was that long until I have read ur comment. Wow
When you pour your heart into cooking a dish, and give the other person the better-looking/-tasting bite, it's true love.
Your logic is sound
Thats love!!!
June’s budget cook ups have gotten me through a week of covid iso and I sincerely thank her. I’d also like to know how she makes eating ‘messy’ food and eating with her fingers look so elegant and ‘ladylike’!
