  • Palm Equipment have designed a range of innovative quick release SUP Belts and SUP Leashes to keep you safe when paddling on moving water.
Palm Equipment are creating some amazing gear that will keep you safe out on the water. The main innovative features of the Quick SUP Belt and the Quick Pro Belt include a pre-cut quick release tag cut specifically to release quickly and a resizable strap to fit you perfectly no matter what clothes you have on or who is wearing it. The belts prior to this range used the quick release strap to tighten the belt, meaning you had to cut down the strap for the belt to release properly.
The Quick Pro Belt combines a storage pocket on the belt to stow throw lines or a communication device, etc. The Quick SUP Belt uses a Molle system to attach accessories such as the Quick Cargo Pouch or the Quick H2O Pouch. Both belts have a red toggle to attached the Quick SUP Leash to or a normal ankle/calf leash can be attached as well.
The Quick SUP Leash can be set at a desired strength limit and attached to one of these belts. Set the strength to minimal and the leash will rip away from the belt when tightened. Tighten up the strength and the leash won’t release, so best to use the quick release points on the belt.
There is more information in the video about these products and how to use them.

Great video Beau. I've been considering the Palm Quick Release SUP Belt with the Quick SUP Leash. Looks like a great combo for cruising on flat water, rivers, coastal waters and Estuaries.
Would you recommend these for just playing around on the beach or would a simple Ankle Coiled leash be adequate?
I am also looking at buying a replacement Coiled Leash for my second hand 2016 Astro Touring Starboard 11’6 x 30 (I'd bought recently from my SUP School as they sell off old stock at the end of each year). Would you have any recommendations on brands as I cannot seem to find a Coiled leash from Starboard?

Hi Mark, thanks for the comment. For beach use, a simple ankle coiled leash would be fine. If you're in the waves, go for straight leash though.
Best ones to recommend would be Dakine, Ocean & Earth - but even Aqua Marina, RED and a few SUP brands have some available.
The Palm Quick Release range is great and definitely something we use when paddling in moving water. We have moved to wearing the waist belt during most sessions on flat water now too for safety and the fact you don't get tripped up in the leash when moving around. Happy paddling, Beau

Personally if your a regular paddler, I’d highly recommend you do “PSR” paddlesport safety and rescue - with British canoeing (the governing body for SUP’ing in the UK)

All of these seem really over-engineered to me. An MTI or Stohlquist quick-release belt is just 1.5" webbing with a QR buckle, can be cut down to any size, and costs less. Loop the ankle strap of your leash through it and put the belt around your waist. This system allows you to easily swap boards with others without them having to figure out your system....just remove the belt and take it with you when you swap boards. I've been using mine for 5 years, works great.

Hi Dan. Great comment and thanks for sharing what you wear out on the water. Lots of other brands doing QR belts and it is a paddlers preference what they wear. Sounds like you have found the right one for you. Cheers, Beau
