Great Video. Helps me a lot. I just have one question. What kind of formats can I import? I´m touring a lot and i need to send for each location an adapted light plot of the venue. What kind of formats can i open with LXFree?

Dimmer is the actual circuit that you connect the light to. The channel is the number you assign to that dimmer when patching it into the board. These CAN be the same, but aren't usually.

If you have a digital desk and use multichannel lights IE LEDs or effects, then you can patch it to any number. So that LEDs that are 4 channels don't skip 3 channels between selecting lights. Good for when there are lots of movers.

Actually, circuit is like a cable only. So, if your dimmers are not hard wired circuiting, the cable that goes from the light to the dimmers is the circuit. Then the dimmer is actually the number of the dimmer in the pack or rack that the circuit gets plugged into. Only in hard wired circuit situations are the dimmer/circuit the same thing.
Then, the channel is what the lighting console will control that dimmer with. Since the 80's, dimmers were made capable of being patched electronically at the console instead of manually at the dimmers. So you could plug your fixtures into dimmers/circuits 1 through 12 in the FOH in any order but then go to the console and patch those into any channel on the console you choose (eg: amber front light @ 1 thru 5, blue front light @ 11 through 15 etc).
So to answer your original question...in the 21st century, circuit/dimmer are often the same number, but not always. It will always depend on the venue. And yes, the channel and dimmer can be the same. That choice is completely up to the designer/programmer of the show. I work with a school that has 110 circuits and 96 dimmers with an ETC Ion console. So we still have to patch the circuit cable into an available dimmer backstage before we can control it with patch in the console.
