    So, I may have found a source of some of the acros that have been giving me issues: I was cleaning my Nero 3 that I was going to remove from the Frag Tank to the new 25g tank and found the magnet casing around the motor cracked and rusted in several spots. I think its been that way for a while which is probably why it was clicking and loud for the past several months. I cleaned it often, but usually just scrubbing the outer shell and not inside the pump. For now I will keep a better eye on all the magnets/pumps in the tank.

    Beautiful reef! What is your photo period, peak period, and color channel % intensities.? Corals look healthy. ✅

    To kill coral just cover it in kalkpaste, instantly kills tem.

      lol tried it on these montis… doesn’t work, some always comes back and regrows completely before I have time to do it again. They are the Xenia or GSP of the SPS world

    Looks fantastic. Which brand tank did you switch to? I might have asked that about a year ago, but I forget. Was there an issue with the Red Sea?

    • @NBurgReef
      @NBurgReef  5 місяців тому +1

      Innovative marine 170g EXT. Not necessarily anything wrong with it, but after seeing some accounts of people's rimless red sea tanks having seams split, I decided it was time to get a better built tank. This one is 3/4" glass with a eurobrace and aluminum stand. The thought of 90+ gallons of water leaking on the 5th floor of my building kept me up at night.

    • @hurricaneaquatics
      @hurricaneaquatics 5 місяців тому

      @@NBurgReef Yes, I understand completely. The Gen 2 didn't have that issue, but if yours was a Gen 1 that was absolutely the right decision. One last thing, are you happy with the Innovative Marine aquarium as far as build quality, glass clearness, silicone, etc? Thanks for your answers as I'm in the market in about 6 months for a larger system and Red Sea has horrible customer service.

      @@hurricaneaquatics yep, I had the gen 1 reefer 450, which was replaced by the 525xl.
      Happy with the IM EXT. from a friend with the internal overflow version, don’t get it. get the EXT. Glass is perfect, build is great, just know that it’s THICK, so you will have to make sure you have waver makers that can handle it. MP40s work but need zip ties to keep the dry side on. Tunzes need the extra heavy magnets and the gyres are just good enough but slip or go off level easily.
      It’s heavy as hell, but built well. In thing I wish is that the back wall wasn’t a thin sheet of acrylic or plastic siliconed into the seam of the glass. If you like black background it’s actually great, but I like the clear back glass to give more white and visual depth. But all things considered, I’m more than pleased.

      @@NBurgReef great to hear you're pleased. Yes that's strange on the back panel being acrylic. I haven't seen that. I'll definitely check those out, thank you.

    Super clean reef. Looking great. I just got a JF home wrecker frag that looks just like yours. I hope mine survives. Mine was in the BRS 160 briefly which is kind of cool. Happy reefing.

    Hey man, I just got this same tank and am taking some inspiration from you! I am currently looking into lights and am struggling with all the options for a tank this big. I will just be focusing on sps and softy corals as well as fish so lighting isn't the main priority for me. I'm looking at the Orphik Atlantik iCon but I'm between one or two of them. I'd like to just get by with one to save some money but I'm wondering fi two is really needed. Any thoughts? Love the videos and keep it up!

    • @NBurgReef
      @NBurgReef  4 місяці тому

      I don't anything about those lights, but after looking at the dimensions of the fixture, I can tell you one will NOT be enough for this tank, especially with SPS. 2 would probably cover the length of the tank but even 2 will not be enough to cover the 30" depth if you want SPS. You'd need 2 plus some strip lights. I liked the stratons because they can cover a lot of depth along with the width.
      I'm not an equipment expert tho, so you may need to do some digging.

      @@NBurgReef thank you! I appreciate the reply. Been doing a lot of research but there’s so many options. Might end up doing two and the light strip option you recommended

    • @NBurgReef
      @NBurgReef  8 місяців тому

      Couple ways -
      First, I don’t run my tank as blue as some people these days. So an orange filter on my iPhone does wonders without making everything glow
      Second, I made a light setting for just videos and pics recently that has a more white. Looks bad in person but on video, it looks like my tank usually does in person.
      Lastly, I do touch things up in my editing software, like adjust the temp to look natural, adjust contrast and I’ll bring the blue channel gain down which gets rid of the weird bluish haze that you get when taking vids on the phone. It’s work, but it turns out looking pretty close to how it looks to the eye.

      @RealHenryGomez 8 місяців тому

      @@NBurgReef thank you for the response. I always knew there had to be something I was doing wrong. 😂 my tank doesn’t look nowhere near that nice on camera. I’ll try some new settings, again thank you.

  • @GenePlotkin

    Nice tank. You are running nutrients too low. That’s the most likely cause of your issues. Those ATI Straton give spread and even par like T5s. Easy to pale out SPS under them. Try raising your PO4 to .2-.3. Phosphate is just as important as salinity and alkalinity, but no one seems to be talking about that.

    • @NBurgReef
      @NBurgReef  8 місяців тому

      So you're saying 0.1 - 0.15 ppm phosphate and nitrate at 10 ppm is too low? That's crazy. I've had thte stratons for over 3 years now.
      Honestly, I don't think either are issues since 95% of all my acros are doing great.

    • @GenePlotkin
      @GenePlotkin 8 місяців тому

      @@NBurgReef you have a great looking tank. All I’m saying is that those are very powerful lights and corals need to have the matching nutrient levels to get optimal growth and rich color. When you have fast growing corals and high light, po4 gets consumed fast. Raising your nitrates to 15-20 and po4 to .2-.3 should make yours already awesome tank look even better. We are brainwashed to believe that nutrients are bad. Back in the day we grew corals as well under MH lights with way more part in “dirty” tanks. Take a look at ToTMs from the early 2000s and you’ll see what I mean.

    • @NBurgReef
      @NBurgReef  8 місяців тому

      @@GenePlotkin I get it, I’m definitely in the higher nutrient camp vs low. I remember when zero was golden and people would gasp if you told them you dosed potassium nitrate! lol

    • @GenePlotkin
      @GenePlotkin 8 місяців тому

      @@NBurgReef I was in that camp for a while. Had tons of issues. I kept blaming it on the fact that it’s dry rock vs live rock I used to use, that it was LEDs vs MH I used to run. Thought it was bacterial issues. It took a good friend with 30 years of experience to convince me to start dosing nitrates and feeding reef roids for po4. The tank took off and just about all the prescient issues like random recessions, Dinos, cyano and even algae disappeared.
      SPS tanks are a lot like planted tanks. People don’t think about it that way, but it all makes sense when you think of it like that. Planted tanks dose fertilizer full time. Some of these guys with large systems and jumbo sps will have their po4 drop .4 or more in one day. You need to keep an eye on it.

    Love the tank, your updates, and videos. Glad you share the good and the bad news. Your tank is incredible, so knowing even you at times have STN/RTN events is helpful and helps me stay the course during difficult moments. It seems at any given moment there is always at least one coral not doing well, ugh.

    • @NBurgReef
      @NBurgReef  8 місяців тому +1

      I’m sure it’s possible to have all the coral do well all the time… I’m just not wanting to put that much effort into it. Trying to keep the hobby enjoyable and not stressful. I’m definitely not an acro expert but seems if you keep things stable, then most acro will do pretty well.

      I didn't realized how big some of these acros have gotten until I looked at some pics from only a few months ago. Having a toddler distorts your concept of time, lol. I like to keep the larger ones trimmed until the smaller colonies and frags grow to a little more size.
