Thanks for giving me credit. Awesome job filling in all the blanks. I didn't know GRRM had said those things about the unkiss. It's confirmation for sure. Also thanks for putting in the animated bar graph on how both Thoros' and Beric's life fire was drained each time they performed "The Last Kiss". It makes more sense now.
I'm not sure how Sansa could know or even believe in the Last Kiss, if she hasn't either seen it or received it yet. So my guess is that it's Sandor.

im glad you like the life fire bar thingy. i recall chatting recently about the lord of light, so this is sort of my "gods aren't real interpretation" of how the blood magic works
its similar with the shadow babies. stannis does 1 in the show. 2 in the books. and in both, mel says he'd died if he made another. so i look at stannis as being down to very little fire fire, similar to thoros after the 6th time
and of course, this interpreation of blood magic isn't necessarily mutually exclusive with the gods (or specifically, r'hllor) being real/fake
the way we interpret the "gods vs no gods" debate in terms of planetos is important since the effects bleed down to how we interpret other things. like i think Mel, Thoros, and all the other child slives were brainwashed. whereas a fan who believe in R'hllor might believe they are following a god who wants to save the world from the Great Other.
then something like Thoros belief ... i look at it as tragic. he never believed in the Lord of Light. then he did some beaaaautiful, selfless sacrifice through love to raise his buddy. and it was so crazy, that he's like "whoa. maybe the gods are real!? im a believer now!"
however, that's just my interpretation. GRRM has said that gods won't show up. and won't interact directly with the characters. but that doesn't mean they aren't real, especially since it's open to fan interpretation
so i need to choose my words more carefully when chatting with people. my misleading comments stem from so many factors though. I'm just not that good with words lol. and i get passionate about my own interpretations. and that passion cause me to mistakenly choose words that imply it as fact instead of opinion. and of course, i often chat while doing work. (you know, like after i hit process on a prelim version of a video, and im waiting for it to prcess to review). or when i get in chat sessions for an hour straight (my mind is all over the place, and my fingers hurt. so i end up rushing responses
wow, sorry for this book. im actualy in the process of waiting on a prelim version of a video to finish. its uusally 10-20 minutes. but because of the type of video it is, this one takes over 2 hours to process each time i make a new version. as a result, its taking me a day and a half longer than i had hoped to finish it (and im not pushing back the followup video to january so that i can finish other videos in 2018 =))
thank you for joining btw. even a month is huge. being a channel member for a single month is the equivalent of having watched 2500 of my videos. my math might be off. its huge though. so basically, joining for even a month is as supportive of the channel as someone who watches every video i do for 10 years lol
      so thank you!!

    • @bridge4
      @bridge4  6 років тому +7

in terms of sandor or sansa giving it, Sansa doesn't need to know about it. it's driven by passion. the first time Thoros did it, he was just sad. he had no idea he was going to raise Beric
but i totally hear ya. And i'm with ya. Since SAdnor has seen Thoros do it. (maybe seen similar stuff with the Elder brother as you pointed out). it makes more sense for him to be the one to do it (i jsut threw out the other one as an option. cause it'd be so cute.)
actually, i was about to say "cause he's always wanted the kiss" and then she finally gives it to him. but because of the "unkiss" memeories, its sansa who seems to really want sandor's kiss (which strengthens the better version. sandor giving her the last kiss)
side note, i noticed your distinction about last kiss vs "kiss of life" in regards to being final or not. thank you for pointing that out. but once i found the iron born calling it the "kiss of life," i stayed away from that. cause im not yet sold on thoros specifically calling beric's kiss the "kiss of life" since it was final. but you might be right.... so thanks for that!
i tend to think that one of the factors to accessing magic is extreme passion. be it love or hate
I heard children crying as the riders drove them off with their whips. Tell me again what you saved.” “Your life.” Mirri Maz Duur laughed cruelly. “Look to your khal and see what life is worth, when all the rest is gone.” (AGOT, Danaerys IX)
The memory of their first ride was with her when she led him out into the darkness, for the Dothraki believed that all things of importance in a man’s life must be done beneath the open sky. She told herself that there were powers stronger than hatred, and spells older and truer than any the maegi had learned in Asshai. The night was black and moonless, but overhead a million stars burned bright. She took that for an omen. (AGOT, Danaerys IX)
i love that line about "powers stronger than hatred"
but i believe another factor to be belief. sort of belief with a B. not necessarily in a God. that can work, even if the god isn't real. but just that sort of "law of attribution" type belief. not saying they can do annything. just that it may be a factor in doing magic, among other things. like the level of magic as a whole, blood sacrifice, whether the individual has cracked (near death) yet, etc

Bridge has one of the best thrones communities for friendly and challenging chats. I hope you post lots of ideas in the comments section. I can invision GRRM embracing MAGIC as the real or true force above any Gods, it's a very poetic statement. What's more powerful, moving, or MAGICAL, than a kiss given in selfless love to another? In these terms, Sansa already has all the knowledge of magic that are needed. Love QOT 🌹

I always thought the unkiss was just a sign that Sansa's a warg like her siblings but that without her direwolf she was just reading Sandor (the protector who replaced her direwolf) who wanted to kiss her but didn't. She remembers it because she saw it happening in Sandor's mind. That's my theory.

Sansa with her red hair has been kissed by fire and poor young Sandor's face was kissed by fire, what a romantic poet GRRM is. I would lean toward Sandor giving Sansa the Last Kiss because his journey more than most has been revolving around fire and that this will be the moment he finally finds the courage to banish his fear of fire and he recognises it's power instead. Every day is a school day over at bridge4 folks.

The last kiss will not be about literal beauty it's about the beauty of both these characters innocence and the purity of their hearts in their search for love and a place in their world. They both have suffered more than anyone else trying to find that love and it's incredibly fitting they will both find it in one another. How romantic is that ??

Jeni Watkins, as bridge4 has clearly proven, it will be bittersweet to say the least. However fleeting Sandor's moment is though, I will be glad he finally understands that he deserves to have joy and happiness and his heart will be made whole again. For Sansa her love for the world will be rekindled and that loving spirit will find it's way back to her. I am not a sucker for romance, I swear.

I think it was implied in The Stranger that Sandor has attoned. In retrospect, he has done some bad things, but he's never been a truly evil person. He's been cold, bitter and indifferent but not truly evil. He has committed some foul deeds in the name of others, but there have been some very early signs to suggest he's questioned the morality of these actions. He's done what he has done for survival, not out of a desire for power, love or greed.

Well Rob (Baratheon) tells Ned to get Sansa a dog and she'll be happier for it in that same scene, and as we know, GRRM left clues about the ending in the first season, maybe this is a foreshadowing of Sansa eventually 'getting a dog'; The Hound, maybe they'll be married or he'll serve as one of her household guard. @Alysandir yes but: 1) it's possible that a bunch of minor houses will be major ones after a bunch of major ones are wiped out. After the great war is done, there will be a lot more respect for those whose status is raised based on merit during the conflict. 2) who was bannermen to whom isn't going to matter after they've all faced a much worse common enemy, and the Northerners are going to be hardest hit by default because they are closer to the Wall, so there won't be as many of them around to complain either. 3) you can't please everyone, but Sandor and Sansa are only 8 years apart in the books, and while he's older in the show, so is she. That's not a huge gap, and age difference means very little in real life, let alone a fantasy world. If it means a somewhat happy ending for a character or two, HBO may well risk the wrath of those who might object.

I'll say this. I find it quite possible Sansa may actually dig Sandor. He is instrumental in her hardening up. He did everything he could to prevent her from giving Joffrey a reason to make him take her head. He doesn't want to do that, but he will if ordered. Within the parameters of his existence, he is an honorable man. Politics aside, them together makes more sense than Tyrion. At this point he would protect Sansa and Arya with his dying breath. So...In this case...Maybe the "Last Kiss" is really the first kiss, the first real kiss between them. I know it would certainly save my ugly old but. Plus if Jon dies like he probably will, the north will really need Sansa. Also Sansa would probably not be in the thick of fighting with Sandor, but Sandor falling back to protect the Lady of the North is more probable.

Now, I dread the death of my beloved Clegane, he is such an amazing character. But this one I think I might be all right with. As long as it was Sansa giving it to Sandor. It's rather poetic on the one hand, as she believes he both saved and kissed her, for her to repay him for both actions at once. But on the other, it'd be another empowering moment for Sansa, one where a male character furthers her storyline instead of a woman serving a man's. But above all that, I pray to the old gods and the new, that they get to be together in SOME fashion at the end of the series. As a Lady and her bodyguard, lovers, married, besties who go to the mall every weekend. I don't care just seven hells don't split them up!

Have never thought of this theory of the unkiss until now, but my guess is it wont be over a matter of death but will instead be over love or endearment Sansa will have for the Hound protecting Sansa and her family all of these years. I think the Hound wants to be loved but doesn't feel he deserves it because of how ugly he is, once Sansa shows her affection towards him, Sandor will become the white knight that he has wanted to be his entire life. Could it be something simpler like, in that stress filled and emotional moment Sansa just misremembered the kiss later because deep down she either expected him to or wanted him too.
It's not unlikely since the city was under siege and Sansa would have thought he was going to kiss her because of the tone of the situation. So later after everything had calmed down she just thought he'd done so, we all know memories get hazy when there's stress.

It would be pretty cool if the healer at the Quiet Isle gave The Hound the last kiss, that's how he survived after Arya left him dying, and then he subsequently gives it to Sansa. Just as Thoros gave it to Beric and he passed it on to Catelyn. The fact that Cat is Sansa's mother would make it even more complete and symmetrical.

  • @zodfox9321

That last line about ‘’Sansa bringing her direwolf back to life’’ got me thinking. At the start of season one the hound is a real douche, we see this when he kills mycah and jokes about it. Later during that very scene we witness Ned having to kill Lady. What i’m proposing is that a small piece of Lady’s soul found a place inside Sandor Clegane. We already know that this event was enough to trigger something spiritually inside Bran because he woke up (in the show) right after it happens. I think that this event at least triggered something in him that causes him to have a special connection to Sansa. We know that there’s alot of little girls he couldnt care less about, but with Sansa there’s something different and he can feel some kind of protective feeling toward her. This theory is really far fetched, but I feel like there should be some kind of spiritual connection between the two.

    • @AnitaClue
      @AnitaClue 6 років тому

For part of Lady to go into Sandor would probably require him to be a skinchanger, and he's not. However, without a direwolf Sansa is in danger of losing some of her Starkness. She needs a strong protector of some kind. That could end up being Sandor with or without any romantic elements. Sansa also has a ton of bird imagery around her, maybe to indicate that it will be a challenge for her to stay grounded (like a direwolf) if she's not careful to remember who she is.

  • @okalosomylos780
    @okalosomylos780 6 років тому +10

And both Kissed by Fire, in different ways.
I'm guessing you mean the end of the book series, because these connections would be nigh impossible to establish on the show, due to the changes and omissions, and hard even in the books (up to this point), as GRRM himself admits.
*Unless somehow established* in the few remaining episodes prior to the finale, it would seem completely out of the blue for "unqualified" characters to randomly start resurrecting others using a novelty to the show's continuity: the Kiss of Life.
Other than that, we agree on two points:
    1. Arya, Gregor, Sandor and Sansa's storylines will converge and culminate together in a major way near the end.
(I've been commenting elsewhere that Arya & Sandor will kill Gregor together since March 2017)
    2. Fire = Lifeforce (a staple in fantasy, sci-fi and cosmic horror).
I wonder if age-old characters such as Melisandre (especially after that revelation in s06e01), the Undying Ones, Bloodraven and (surprise here) Varys are, one way or another, _energy vampires_ who absorb the lifeforce of others via blood magic, to prolong their existence and delay death ("Not Today"), in an Only-Death-Pays-For-Life type of mystical exchange.
A somewhat overlooked story element that will most definitely be addressed in the show's final season.
Fingers consistently crossed for _A Dream of Spring_ to eventually see the light of day (pun intended).

It's been a couple yrs or so since my last reading of the books but
I don't remember it working the way you described with Thoros and Beric concerning the resurrections so to speak. I know that it chips off a piece of who Beric is each time he is brought back. The person he was is gone but I don't recall anything about it doing that to Thoros as well each time he performs it. I might have just forgotten it or overlooked it each time I have read the books, but I feel that even if it does its not to the same degree as Beric is losing. I believe that Thoros tried to bring back catlyn as well but it had been far to long after her death. I felt the primary reason was that the Lord of Light had no desire for her to be brought back. Only death can pay for life, unless it's the gods will. This is why it cost Beric his life. He gave her the kiss of life, meaning he gave his life for her to be brought back. I believe this is the only kiss in that sense that has been done throughout this story. Thoro's ritual for raising Beric would have been different and more similar to what the show depicted.

    • @AnitaClue
      @AnitaClue 6 років тому

There's nothing in the books that says it does anything specific to Thoros, but that's where that one quote comes in about a seventh time possibly being the end of both Beric and Thoros. Could mean that this theory is correct, or it could mean that a seventh time there wouldn't be anything of Beric left, and all hell could break loose, resulting in all of them dying permanently. Interesting though that a R'hllorist is worried about something involving the number seven.

The interaction between Sandor and Brienne at the end of season 7 stands out when they are talking about Arya. Brienne: "The only one who needs protecting is the one who gets in her way" Sandor: It wont be me. I think Sandor perceives this as provoking Arya, but what I read into was that Arya is going to need saving and the Hound will literally get in her way to stop whatever it is that threatens her life. Hence the hound needs protecting because he literally got in Aryas way. I hope not though, Sandor is King.

I recall re-reading Clash recently, and in that, it is revealed that the Cleganes came to be in the service of the Lannisters, after three of their hounds killed a lion that was attacking Tywin Lannister's father/ grandfather. I theorised on another thread that this might foreshadow the Hound taking a role in destroying the Lannisters. It's worth noting that Sansa isn't the only Stark who has formed a bond with the Hound. He gradually formed an attachment to Arya too. Robert told Ned that Sansa would be happier with a dog. Both Stark girls have theoretically lost their direwolves but Sandor may come to fulfill the role of loyal protector in the same way as a real hound serves its master.

Hi! I am so glad you had posted on the Unkiss since you're on the Sandor trail (arguably the best character in ASOIAF). I had thought alot about the Unkiss and felt that potentially, Sandor resurrecting Sansa with the Last Kiss could be a possibility as well.
Coming up to S8, when the characters end up at King's Landing for the final battle. There are huge speculations that our heroes (those that fight for the living) will be confronted with a double threat at the same time: 1) the Others will be taking down the city as well as 2) Mad Queen Cersei will be hatching her plan to blow up the city with Wildfire. There are strong evidences leading to Jon being captured by the Golden Company at the previous Battle at Winterfell which will result in our remaining characters going south to save him. When they reach KL, Cersei could possibly scheme the kidnap and murder of Sansa (to rile her enemies), and Arya and the Hound will go on a secret mission to free Jon and take revenge for Sansa's demise. The rest will be fighting the Others. My speculation would be that Jamie dies in the fight, and in the arms of Brienne and Arya will take his face. My speculation is that Cersei will hang and display Sansa's dead body for her enemies to see. In anger and respect for her lost, Sandor and Arya will retrieve her body which will fuel their hatred for Cersei.
Arya (disguised as Jamie) and Sandor will eventually find Cersei. Cleganebowl WILL take place whilst Cersei is being attacked by Arya/Jamie, however before she dies, she will issue the call to explode caches of Wildfire all over KL. But when Arya kills her, it will fulfill the Valonqar prophecy. Sandor would be fatally injured but just before he dies, will will give the dead Sansa his Last Kiss (as Wildfire caches explode) fulfilling perhaps a greenseer's vision Sansa had always known, "He had come to Sansa in the darkness as green fire filled the sky."
    What do you think.

Sandor has clearly no beliefs in any sort of religion, but the path he has taken in the show could lead him to this Last Kiss theory. That Queen forshadowing has just confirmed what I always thought,That Sansa and not Margery or Dany will dethrone Cersei. The Show visually displays it...Cersei has put the Lannister lions in as the symbols on the walls of the throne room, yet in dany's vision when she gets to the iron throne,it's covered in ice. and the symbols of the seven are in place.. which means Someone else dethrones Cersei before Dany gets there.. If you look at the opening of the show you see the thing that hangs from the roof of the high citadel and at one point glasses ,the type a master where's as the map is unfolding.. Take it as someone from the future reading what we see occurring in the show in a book in the high citadel... Sansa always wanted to be a girl who's songs where written about...and Sam wanted to write a book with more fancy name... Since it’s all but certain the dragons and direwolves are going to die and the White Walkers can’t just be killed, or killing them will only further the cycle of violence, and magic is disappearing from the world, if The True Kiss will be one of the last acts of magic or if it’ll work as intended. What if Sandor/Sana’a comes back and that piece of them that loved the other is missing, just how part of Beric was missing.

But he has been a fatherly/big-brother/cantankerous drunk uncle figure to her since the Brotherhood, and she took him off her list, so... It would be entertaining to see Sandor Clegane sparring verbally with Brianne of Tarth, they are such polar personalities - with the same intense loyalty to their own codes and unlikely ‘true knights’.

I think the Elder Brother did the last kiss on Sandor, because he did seem pretty close to dead when Arya left him.
Also, it could explain why he's "different" when he came back, because the part of him that was lost was the Hound.
(So, maybe when the Elder Brother tells Brienne that the Hound died, he wasn't exaggerating.)

I think that Arya telling the Hound that one day she will stick a sword through his eye and out the back of his head may also come into play. Possibly as a mercy when he's on fire or turned into a wight.
I also still think she fits the prophecy of Azor Ahai because there are at least two major events in her life that fit being "reborn amidst smoke and salt". The first was the Red Wedding and the latter was the port where she caught the ship to Bravos. The smoke is from the fighting at the Twins and at the port, there are large piles of salt.

Literally the first potential plotline for season 8 that I can get on board with!I would very much like this to be true - Sandor needs to truly save someone to forgive himself, to regain any happiness at all. And their connection is real, so much more so in the books than the show as you pointed out. Yes! I like this. Sandor will save Sansa and will become a hero. Whether a dead or alive hero I do not know, but he will find his redemption. Please, make it so :)

Love this video (I always get downvoted when I talk about Sandor and Sansa's ultimate arc). as an adjunct, remember that the Hound was the FIRST to cloak Sansa when being beaten, which is a symbol of marriage. He leaves that white cloak with her and she continues to use it around her. And I think she semi warged her "wolf" during the bedroom scene both in the book and the show ( remember GRRM himself wrote that scene for the show. she fugues out while staring at Sandor, and he stumbles backwards). when she apologizes to him before that in the hallway, he says he will stand between her and her beloved King. That's the Night King. And Sandor's death scene with Arya was basically if I had had just ONE loving moment with "your sister, your pretty sister", my dying would be okay. But the biggie in the show later was - The conversation between Thoros and the Hound in the far north while seemingly about Brienne, inmho was subtextually about the Hound and Sansa. I believe she will get pregnant by him, he dies saving her, and she and Tyrion raise those great big monstrous children. as Sandor says during the trial in the cave, I never touched the targaryen children, never smelled them, never held them bawling. no he won't hold his own children either - . sansa will have tyrion there at the birth, with Sam assisting. Sam, have you ever birthed a child? no, but i've read about in a book.... I think Sansa has a difficult birth with twins. she lives though. her vision at the Vale clearly shows her with PUPPIES on her lap, one of which looks like Arya who was mistaken as Sandor's son several x on the road.

Hm, no. I have loved all the other theories I have checked out after discovering this channel today, but this one I don't see happening.
For the Last Kiss to have the proper strong emotional meaning this close to the end of the story, it has to be someone giving up their life for the other person (like when Beric revives Catelyn as Lady Stoneheart in the books); it can't be one of the "earlier" kisses where you just give up *a bit* of your life force (like when Thoros revives Beric multiple times). So one of the two persons has to die to save the other.
Sansa isn't even aware of this type of magic, so if she somehow managed to sacrifice her life to save Sandor without evening understanding or knowing it, it would just be tragic. And if Sandor has to give up his life to save Sansa, then you can't get the scene where he receives the gift of mercy that you described in an earlier video. Of these two potential deaths for Sandor, I find the other one much more likely, especially considering how emotional it will be (I cried just watching that video and imagining seeing it in the series). So this theory ... there just isn't any room left for it in the story, in my opinion.
As for how Sansa's memory of the "unkiss" will eventually mean something, I cannot guess, but I don't think this is it.

  • @louiseroocroft

So I'm on my 2nd read of Storm and in Sansa's final chapter (which has so many references to her being frozen in the snow) I had this "holy crap!" moment and had to come find this video! (Apols if someone has already said this, it just hit me!) In that chapter, Marillion comes to escort Sansa to Lysa in the high hall. He says he is sent to 'bring her' and she asked if he is the guardsman now. "Do you require guarding?" he asks, all subtly reminding us of the hound, bringing her, guarding her whatever... and then this: "I'm composing a new song, you should know. A song so sweet and sad it will melt even your frozen heart" 😱😱 I'm with you on this now Kev, 100%! Sandor will give Sansa the last kiss! (I'm not happy about it, but it looks like it's right there 😭)

If the person needs to know about the existence of magic for magic to become real, how would Sansa be able to save The Hound if she's never seen or experienced The Last Kiss before? Based on that, it seems more likely to me that The Hound is the one who saves Sansa...

It would be great if somehow they all ended up in Kings Landing and the following happened. If Cersei ordered The Mountain to kill Sansa and The Hound got involved to try and save her but was killed. Arya could witness this and run in to try save Sansa and try to kill The Mountain because she is on her list and she just seen him kill Sandor who was protecting her sister. Arya is losing the fight badly, The Mountain snaps needle like a twig and tosses it away and that is when Sansa gives The Hound the last kiss to bring him back to life. He rises and ignites his own sword just like Beric and Thorus used to do, saves Arya and defeats The Mountain.

Based on the book passages I would lean towards the Hound giving the last kiss to Sansa. However, I would put money on Cersei, not the Night King, as the party responsible for Sansa's demise. Sansa will likely be on the receiving end of a Cersei plot (that might conveniently involve Gregor Clegane) to take her life and the Hound, per the foreshadowing involving 'the king', will attempt to intervene or arrive too late and avenge her death (thus achieving closure with his brother). Thanks to his newfound faith in the Lord of Light the Hound successfully manages to impart the 'last kiss' to Sansa, thus setting her up for the final act involving the Night King.
