Southern California coastal communities brace for arrival of Hurricane Hilary

- After a first-ever Tropical Storm Warning was issued in Southern California on Friday night, coastal communities are bracing for potential flooding from Hurricane Hilary, which is expected to make landfall as a tropical storm this weekend. Hilary, which is churning off the Pacific coast of Mexico, is expected to reach California on Sunday as a tropical storm.
“Rainfall amounts of 3 to 6 inches, with isolated amounts of 10 inches, are expected across portions of southern California and southern Nevada, which would lead to significant and rare impacts,” the National Weather Service said. “Elsewhere across portions of the Western United States, rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches are expected.”
KTLA's Mary Beth McDade reports on August 18, 2023.

@@dsmith7787Oh God y'all are doomed 💔
Unlike the southern Atlantic, hurricanes on the west coast hit a wall of cold Pacific ocean water temps when traveling north and fall apart before really reaching So. California. There have been some rare examples ( in 1939) but usually if there was a big hurricane in Baja, we just get a tropical storm spinout mainly effecting the beach communities. If this hurricane decides to move inland after San Diego, it can also fall apart due to our hilly and mountainous terrain.

Ok, heard for days last week about a huge storm coming to LA and not one drop. The elevations generally get the bang. I hope its just an extra long rain (for us that is a couple hours)
Yes the elevations then will run down those mountains into the valley and cities and flood you out.
Hopefully with lots of rain coming in to help fill the remaining reservoirs in California or the rain can be pumped somewhere to be useful🤔
They will be filled but you will have billions of dollars in damages as well after it hits. Way worse problems coming.

The Pacific has hurricanes every year, but they usually slam into southern Mexico and Central America . Our cold Pacific ocean here in California prevents the hurricanes from traveling north and they usually fall apart in Baja. However this is a monster "El Nino" year which means warmer ocean temps farther north. This hurricane will still diminish to a tropical storm ( because the water is still much cooler) and will hit a lot of mountainous terrain if it goes inland causing it to further fall apart.

Every storm brings low key freakouts
Its not so much the storm impact as it is the aftermath. Last hurricane we lost power and water for a month. Now theres no AC, toilets dont flush, we cooked over a fire in the front yard. I started with 13 cases of water and 30 gallons in jugs. It lasted two weeks. We froze water jugs and latge pieces of meat and that stayed cold for two weeks. We slept with the front door open and duct taped the screen door to keep snakes out. There was no street lights and its really dark at night. All kinds of creepy people come out despite the curfew. We all slept with guns. People kicked out their animals prior to the storm. Had a pitbull running around that bit two people. Kept a shotgun outside when we cooked. Unbearable heat. Its not so much the storm. The aftermath sucks.
May I ask where you live?
That sounds terrible. I live in South FL and yes the aftermath is bad but people usually come together to help. With hurricane Irma I lost power for a week. Someone who didn’t even know me drove down to bring me water, ice, cooler. Neighbors helped pick up my fence which landed in the sidewalk. I would sit in my porch in darkness at night and was never afraid. I’d say the worst part is the heat, after a few days it’s unbearable especially when you have to pick up debris etc.

@@kailu2536 yes, the churches were a life saver. It took 3 days to get out of our neighborhood. There was nothing. No stores, no gas stations. I'm so glad I had something put away. I remember the look on the old lady's face when we got our first bag of ice and I gave her an icy cold coke. After so many days in that heat.

How many cars did California have in the 1940s that caused climate change back then?
Climate change isn't real
cars aren't really the issue. the 1940's also didn't have the massive energy infrastructure that causes most of the carbon emission.
vehicles contribute somewhat, but these huge oil refineries and industry pump amounts in a day far beyond what we would make in a lifetime

Seal Beach, CA ALWAYS FLOODS in a storm where the ocean washes up on shore and floods over PCH and into the wetlands on the other side. Very

@@Dgafsranger🤓🤓
You have flat lands in FL and the ground there absorbs the water. In CA you have something called Mountains and the ground in CA does not naturally absorb the water. Rain fall will come down off those mountains into the valleys and cities and flood you clean out.
If the gulf is so warm that it shoots a hurricane towards the Baja ( Cabo San Lucas) then its gonna be a bad hurricane season I bet one is forming to go toward Texas or Louisiana or Florida now
I’m terrified and my parents aren’t taking this storm seriously. I have 2 cats and 4 fish. What do I do? Any tips?? Idk what to do :(
If you are in a area that will flood then take the cats and grab supplies and leave to higher grounds. If you don't have the cash to stay at a motel, grab a tent and do a little camping and have fun with it until it passes. Be prepared for long camping in case you can't go back for a few weeks. Get non perishable foods, canned, beef jerky, nuts, ect water.
its ok .nothing to worry about no need to panic
Google: How to prepare for a disaster
Make sure you have enough food and water for you and your pets. Make sure your cats are in a safe place so they don’t get scared and run out. They said it’s a fast moving storm so hopefully not much flooding. Gas up your car and charge your cell phone. After it passes don’t go out wandering until it’s safe to do so. I know some storms can be scary if you’re not used to them but you’ll be ok. We get them all the time here in FL. It’s hot here, not sure what the temp is there but I usually lower my ac to get the house really cold in case we lose power but I do all those things only for hurricanes that are cat 3 and up. Be safe 🙏

Do our thoughts influence nature?
Indeed, our thoughts influence nature.
We live in a single global-integral system of nature, we influence it with our thoughts, and we receive feedback accordingly.
Similar to laws that operate on mechanical, electronic, electromagnetic and other material and biological scales, when we press, push or constrain something, we receive a response. Likewise, when we think positively or negatively about others, we accordingly receive a response.
The global-integral reality in which we live is a closed system, and we receive responses from it according to our attitudes to it.
