This Minten/Grebenkin duo are a buddy cop duo waiting to happen. The straight man and the "I kill you, you kill me. It's business. No problem" guy. Or for guys old enough, Balki and Cousin Larry. If I'm Tre I keep these guys together. Line mates, room mates. Same contact etc. It'd be a contest to bilingualism because Minten would probably have fun learning another language. And Grebenkin seems like a kid you could turn anything into a game and he'd want to win. In 2 years you add Willy to the line and I bet it's a handful. I'd try it now really. Or when someone is healthy/capable of joining 34 on line 1 in Willy's spot. Ideally Domi. Him and Auston have side chemistry whet they're both going. .
The save percentage is up cause the personnel on defense. The coaching. And of course the goalies themselves. But there is a defense first mindset. One that Dubas was missing... He ruined years of this team. They gave a rookie the helm for some god forsaken reason. Let's see what happens now.
I'm just loving the fact that as a fan base we don't have to worry about that if the opposition scores 5 goals the leafs have to panic and score 6 this season, because our goal tenders have made silly mistakes. Yes we still had woll last year, but, at least if Woll goes down, we have Stolartz, who is quite dependable, and if both go down we have Hildeby
Domi is going to be fine as the third line centre. I think people will judge him for his defensive play but when you look at the bigger picture he often gets into trouble only when he doesn't shoot the puck with assertiveness. He should just do what Johnny does a lot of the time like get it and rip it, get it and rip it...Domi is so good at getting to the middle of the ice in the ozone but then he will defer and defer....If he rips the shot he will increase his +/- when the puck stays in the zone with those 2nd and 3rd chance opportunities plus they will stay out of the leafs' zone. People also forget that Domi is excellent at faceoffs. You definitely need faceoffs as a third-line centre
Nearly everything feels different. Goaltending, Defence, Toughness, Coaching. They feel to me like a very different team than every prior year in Core4 era.

Couldn’t agree more. Shanahan’s decision to pick Dubas was the fork that put this team on a brutal painful soft-hockey path.
