"The Horace Silver classic “Nica’s Dream" proves an inspired addition to "Kinetic." In arranging the Silver classic, Feifke manages to honor the original, while also modifying the piece’s groove into something entirely new and wonderful. Indeed, in contemplating Horace Silver, we can emerge with key insights into some of Feifke’s own musical goals: an embrace of simplicity and beauty to maximal effect, a rhythmically charged melodic line, and an ability to balance musical profundity and enjoyment. To hear those goals align so spectacularly here is undoubtedly one of the album’s highlights."

I love hearing new (for me) big bands- and this one knocks me out . Stunning solos, and ensembles, and etc. etc.
I have always been a big band fan. My Husband (Jack Laubach-trumpet) worked with them all plus many movies etc. I was a vocalist. You got it Steven. Keep writing. I love hearing the youth of today play.
I hear Thad Jones in there. I hear Bob Brookermeyer in there. I hear Vince Mendoza in there but most of all... I hear Steven Feifke in there.
thanks so much Greg, that's a really nice compliment! you just listed three of my biggest influences.
Beautiful bud! So good to see everyone in this vid
Thanks so much maestro!
Killin work, I think Horace Silver would’ve loved this
thank you so much! Horace Silver is one of my biggest influences -- I hope he would enjoy this too!
I can hear that in your solos. This sounds great!
The trumpet soloist is Benny Benack, not Gabriel King Medd as attributed above.
A copy and paste error! Thanks for the heads up, Abbott.
@@StevenFeifke You're welcome. Speaking as a native New Yorker living in London, it's amazing how many talented musicians have gathered in NY at the one time.
@@abbottkatz8830 the times before COVID! Wish we could all do this again soon.
@@StevenFeifke Yes. On the other hand, now musicians can collaborate with others anywhere in the world, both in and out of real time.
@@abbottkatz8830 that's true!
BB3 trying to be sneaky and pull a lick on us....

Benny pulled a few "liccs" on us during that solo! Quoting like a million tunes 😜

@@StevenFeifke i’ll put it on my calendar!
Love the bass lines you come up with.
Steven solo is clean
Steven: Really nice, all around. What time signature?

Good arrangement!!
Nice solo.
Incredible as always! Great to hear this arrangement built on from your septet.
thank you, Jackson! Yes this is built out from the septet arrangement. And, I featured Benny and Jimmy just like I did on "Peace In Time!"
Killer chart man! It's awesome that I was one of the first to hear this on zoom the other day!
Thanks so much, Charlie! Really enjoyed virtually meeting you and looking forward to hearing your writing! 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

thanks so much, Stan! We've got more coming your way, stick around!
@@StevenFeifke I have a big band here in France Too. Some teasers & tunes on my channel. I have a pedagogic blog too (I'm a jazz writing teacher) And may be we can do a little revue on your works...? You all write yourself ?
Benny wailing
Great arrangement! However that fantastic drummer is certainly not Ulysses Owens Jr. as credited in the description.
thank you! corrected
So Cool!
Nice work, I really enjoyed it. Also like your arranging :) 4:23 the lick haha

Grande Pianista Steven,Wanderfoul.👋🙋🇧🇷🇱🇷👍👋👋👋👋👋
I’m new to your work, love it! Really dig your piano playing in particular...
Oh man, thank you!! There's a lot more to come, stick around if you can 🤓
Awesome piece Steven! Great group of musicians that you assembled to play it as well!
Thanks, Rob! Yes, I certainly could not do this without the INCREDIBLE musicians in the band!
Great performance of a Horace Silver composition
This is my first hearing of a Horace Silver composition played by a big band.
When that bridge hits I feel like I’m swimming in jazz
haha! love it
Impressive! Love the orchestrations, nice bopping tempo!
Thank you Eli!
4:23 licc: spotted
😂
Wow, really excellent in every way, including recoding quality. Most enjoyable!!
Oooooooooooooooooo that’s so good
Beautiful mixing and balance is what stood out to me on the first listen. ❤️
thanks, Parker! Brian Montgomery mixed this and Dave Darlington did the master. I attribute that aspect of this all to them!
Fantastic, creative arranging! Beautiful attention to details and every aspect of writing that makes a chart a success! Wow!
Nice touch to refer to the sax section as the reeds
on several other songs on the album they play flutes/clarinets etc hence the "reeds" name!
@@StevenFeifke Cool, and yea that’s why I like “reeds,” the “not just sax” section :-)
Assolutamente fantastico...... bravi, bravi, bravi, etc............
Beautifoul music, forever.👋👋👋👋🙋🇧🇷🇱🇷👍
Incredible playing and sound - jimmy is deep in the pocket
