  • Keep Your Coop Clean Without Hurting Your Back || Installing a Poop Deck in the Chicken Coop
    We all make mistakes, especially when we try new things. But its an opportunity to learn, and make amendments! Installing this poop deck in my coop is one way I'm making homesteading doable for me, even with physical challenges, and you can too!
    Check out my friend Adrienne over at Farmstead Smith! This is the video she did that inspired me to build our poop deck! • BEST ADDITION TO YOUR ... Tell her I sent you!

    Oh yay! Did you get the poop deck idea from me?? I don't wanna make assumptions.
    In any case, I am glad you're able to make it easier for yourself. That's my goal too. Making things easier, whether you want to do hard work or not, is more efficient. :)

    I think the biggest keys is finding ways that are the easiest for you to handle. Having a poop deck could be fun, everytime sone one cones over you can throw an eye patch on, give them a mop and bucket and yell "swab the poop deck, matey"

    Great advice, Lynette and I love the poop deck. I wish more people would take the initiative to learn and modify their plans when things don't seem to be working. You are such a great inspiration to me. Happy Yule!

    Thats the best way I designed our shed/ coop using construction sand ,and poop board. So easy to clean I also use Sweet PDZ to help with the order. Good video!

    I did use stall dry in my coop also.

      I just learned of it recently. I had heard of people using PDZ, but i couldnt find any in stock anywhere, and a worker said the Stall Dry should work just as well and should be safe for the birds.

    We definitely regret reusing what was a quail pen that we turned into a chicken coop and learned the hard way that it is a pain to clean out 😂💩

      Oh, dear! Maybe you can make some adjustments? We built ours from all scrap leftover from the coop build, except for the two roost bars. We had enough scrap for them, but they had been left outside and were sopping wet, so we bought two new 2 x 4's.

    • @MinnieAcresFarm
      @MinnieAcresFarm 3 роки тому

      @@13MoonsOverMayhem I think instead of adjustments we are going to focus on building one big mobile coop this winter to replace the 2 smaller stationary 'houses' we used this year to get by. We will definitely use as much recycled material as possible too😄

    Could you tell me your mixture for your coop

    • @13MoonsOverMayhem
      @13MoonsOverMayhem  11 місяців тому

      In the poop deck I use a mixture of all purpose sand and a product called Stall Dry. There's a couple different versions of stall dry, ideally, use the one meant for poultry. On the floor of the coop, and in the enclosed run, I use pine pellet horse bedding. It expands into a sawdust when it gets wet and is very absorbent. The coop floor doesnt need cleaned very often, since most of the droppings occur at night while they roost over the poop deck.
