I made my own version of this for a project I'm doing for my music appreciation class. This video really helped me out thank you! Also for anyone trying to replicate this, if you can't get a clear sound I recommend you adding another wooden rod underneath the backs of the hair pins to help keep them in place. That's what I did and it worked really well!
Easy build up and of real use - great - thanks for sharing! My suggestion is to tune this Kalimba to a pentatonic scale with the help of an instrument tuner or another instrument like piano, guitar, flute to (eg.) the C major pentatonic scale: C Major pentatonic: C, D, E, G, A This is a very inspiring small scale and an always"error free" sounding tuning. You can play whatever tone you like without sounding "wrong" at any time. This would also be a beautiful small project together with (even small) children - much more worthwhile than showing them how to swipe a smartphone screen :)
thank you for your comment. I use normal wood.(maybe it's ceder...like that) if you can't get clear sound, you should better to tide rubber band stronger.
This is the easiest way I've seen on youtube!
thanks! enjoy!
素朴で味わい深い音ですね。
すごい! ^^

This is very do-able and simple, but it takes a VERY long time to tune it.
try to use the rubber band to bind sticks.
and tune it before them bind strong.
I bind them strong after tune it with second rubber band.
omg thank you for this
How long are the bob pins?
thank you for your comment.
though it's depends on wooden plate size...
I use about 4cm pins.
please enjoy it!
