Chris, love the videos. I appreciate the technical information, especially for setting up my roller guns. They have helped me diagnose some badly designed gear and make good gear even better,
I feel like there is still a lot to learn ...man you are getting very deep in details and open my mind to many factors effecting accuracy ...thanx a lot
What a masterpiece! Bravo!! I recently bought a pathos sniper roller 105 - still waiting for delivery. Your tips in this video definitely have informed me for the better. I will without fail be looking at the shaft for straightness.
Thanks a lot Chris, once again. I've read your rollergun bible through and through and loved my Mannysub untill I suddenly started missing every fish. I always thought my shaft was straight and couldn't figure out why I missed but after doing your chair trick I found it was pretty badly bent. Already got a new shaft as I cut my 110 gun down to a 100 so I should be ok with the new shaft now. Cheers!
Thank you for sharing, this is very informative and detailed explanation about rollerguns, I have been using roller guns since 2012 and I always learn new stuff from your videos.
Thanks heaps for your tips ive been following your page as a first option for tips and tutorials since ive just started spearfishing of the coast of cancun mexico
Thanks Chris for your valuable info, as usual I liked your video, and looking forward to see you more often in Dubai, and waiting for the next one about accurate aiming. Good luck and keep the good spirit you always have
Lol I went big to small roller but in my defense the I only got the 120 because the shop wanted to clear out stock and had discounted it. After getting acquainted with it over 2 years I decided to add a smaller 100 roller to the collection lol. I also practiced initially on a lot of invasive species so stakes were low.
You have some very good vids. Very good, timeless info. I think you’re probably right about rollers, but I personally believe an ideal band setup on a reverse mech could easily hold its own against a roller. But I may be wrong. I’d love to see more testing in this respect.
Thanks mate! You're eliminating all the bull info out there on the net with your honest and simple explanations. There's lots of marketing hype out there and I am looking forward to getting a roller gun from you in the near future. There is not a lot of information out there on inverted roller guns compared to single/ double roller guns. I would like to have your opinion on the inverted rollers, please! I am currently in love with my Abellan Denton ( bought in 2010) and also use a Pathos 120 Lazer carbon pro with regular sandvic shafts and a Pathos 115 Aluminum sniper. I'm not super impressed with the two Pathos guns and I am looking for a new all arounder gun for shallow reef and midwater here in south Florida.Thank you for all these informative and honest videos.
Hey Sunny, Yes I really do need to do a video on the the 3 different guns. It is on the list of things to do. That Abellan is a great gun, what length is that?
Coatsy. Brilliant stuff! You have helped me mentally. I want to give it a bash, BUT, and its a big but, I wouldn't easily trade my 1.3 conventional gun when the yellowtail are thick at Struis. Skiet en laai. You can't reload and operate as quick with a rollergun in those one in 20 days out there. Also, the water is mostly not crystal clean. So it just makes it next to impossible to commit to the roller. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks for everything you do bru
Hey Andre, I have proven over and over that you can load a roller as easily and as fast than a conventional gun, and some times faster (when comparing comparative performance / power & range) At Struis a 110 single roller is all you need.
Thank you for the information. It is very helpful! About the half plus five rule: what about pretension? The half barrel length plus 5 must assume a standard pretension. If the bands on a 90 are 50 (45+5), what length should the anchor points be, i.e. how to determine the pretension on the bands?
Hey Chris great video as usual! I have a few questions: do shaft cones provide a noticeable difference on accuracy and penetration? And will you ever do a video comparing inverted and double rollers? What made you go with the CDR over an inverted roller?
Gunnar, schoo big subjects 😁 Shaft cones are good if not to thick. It will be a good test to do one day. On the inverted vs double rollers. Inverted's can produce superior shots. But the rigging is exponentially more complicated and not easy for theaveragee diver to sort out when there are issues. Then you have double rollers which are super simple, and for the most part deliver more power than is needed anyway. I just think double rollers are more practical.
@@CoatesmansSpearfishing thanks for the reply! any chance we will get a unrolling the roller video about double roller setups? and maybe a brief mention of inverted rollers?
Where did you buy the skins for the gun? And would you recommend a carbon barrel over an aluminum? I’m looking to get a 100cm wondering if it is worth the extra money.
@CoatesmansSpearfishing, is your CDR double roller and RA single roller muzzle "the same" for aiming purposes? I want to convert my conventional 1300 Rabitech to a double roller. And have a single roller RA
Yes with rollers always double wrap so shaft is accurate at single wrap range. Personally always a reel, unless targeting big pelagics like tuna and doggies.
Good afternoon, I bought a salvimar metal 95 recently. I have used it twice and I fine ever time I shoot I am ending up shooting to the right of my target. Can you help? This is my first time using a speargun
Hey Coates , do you still shoot a conventional band gun or all roller guns these days? I find myself stuck between a rock and a hard place deciding if I should change my 1100 to a heavy roller for some heavy mackerel, job fish and coral trout go to a 1200-1300 roller for purely blue water. Have even been toying with the idea of a 1400 conventional band all round gun here in northern Australia would be overkill for Crays but would smoke big trout
@@CoatesmansSpearfishing for some reason I was missing fish badly this year in mozambique with my 120 RA roller from the get-go. Also a BIG wahoo.. it was heartbreaking. Thank you. This by far is the most useful speargun related video I have watched in a year.
Thank you, I am glad it was helpful 🙏
Thanx, friend!
Your video has given me a few tips how to fix an inaccuracy of my gun.
Thanks for the explanation on why a double wrap improves accuracy. Great information.

Class video man, some really excellent info, very good point about the double bridle!
The double bridle wishbone is a game changer on some guns.

I took my roller gun what 120 speargun I'm using 110 shaft in it it's working great
Thanks so much!
about no 6 (shooting line setup) the problem you talking about can be eliminated by tieing the shaft in the middle instead of the back
That is something I am going to need to test.
Thank you for making complicated topics seem easy for newbies like myself
thanks a lot useful information...
Would you recommend a 14mm blue rob allen tire for a 90cm barrel? How long should the elastic be?
