Thanks for the video! I would suggest to make it more specific, that is.. avoid trying to explain how you created the report. I would say, that is a topic for another video. This one for me was more about how to link a power BI report to a sharepoint site and how to schedule a refresh. Also important is to mention that you can refresh it manually to see date you just entered into the sharepoint list. Greetings from Panama, Panama.
Shane if you organization does not allow you to change the settings in the browser you could still manually download the power bi report then upload this report to the SharePoint document library as a workaround correct?

Great tutorial Shane!! I did run into one problem: two of the columns on my SP list are names pulled from our Active Directory. The data is presented in PowerBI as an ID instead of the Name that is displayed on the SP list. I can't figure it out :(
@@ShanesCows The best I could do was have our IT download a copy of the table and then I linked that with the ID. They aren't sure how to give me access to the AD backend in SP and they won't give me access to the table in Outlook, but they said those IDs are unique to SP so there's no way to link tables :( For the time being, I've just changed the SP field to manual fill instead, but one fat finger could skew reports if I have two different spellings for the same person.

Hi Shane... I know its probably been a while since you did power bi stuff however.... I would like to visualise content from a sharepoint lists. One list uses a lookup to the another list for one of its columns. I import both to power bi desktop, create a relationship etc which seems like it should work (one to many - master list supplying multiple uses of the lookup value to the table that I want to display ultimately), however the "lookup column" only every shows the ID. I tried selecting the origin list data but it shows nothing in the calculated fields in the chart etc. I'm missing some linking there but not sure what? In power apps its the "lookupbox.selected.value" type thing which shows correctly in Sharepoint etc so why not in Power BI?

Okay, this is great stuff and i like your vids. But how well does Power BI work with SharePoint on-premise? I have a bunch of engineers who want to display SharePoint list data as Pareto charts, but have developed a hatred of Excel. Power BI looks like a great option for us, but we use SharePoint 2010 at the moment (converting to SP2016 by years end).
I haven't set up on the on-prem gateway yet but you can look at it more here. powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/powerbi-gateway-onprem/ It is on my list of things to play with. Might be worth you trying out. My only hesitation is I am not sure if it works with 2010 or not. 2010 and 2016 are very similar so I think there is at least a chance. Sorry, I don't know much more right now.
when I use the site collection URL in my connection then it does not retrieve the lists within the subsites. The only way I'm able to retrieve the list is when I enter the URL to the level of the subsite where it was created.

Hi Toan - No, unfortunately, PowerApps does work with Access as a data source that I know of. Could you move to Azure SQL instead?

Jose - I think it is a licensing level. Personal Power BI doesn't let you publish.

Sounds like a security issue. 😔
You can go ( PowerBI -> File -> Options and setting -> Data source setting -> Editing permission ) try again to login with organizational account
Embedded in sharepoint online option is not available in file drop down in Power Bi, please me with this.
