@@justinhanna9152 It's not false at all. I don't even live there and I know it's true.
Why do I get the feeling that Mark Zuckerburg watched this and thought it was a Ted Talk....
Pretty sure he already had the plan to sellout since day one. If he didn’t have the idea it would’ve been inspiration to see others do so.
@@mesacperez9502 He didn't have the idea, though. He Jewed it.

WOW, I didn't know that the Onion was doing 100% factual reporting now! nice!
@@aa-vg6rn Sometimes the truth hurts
Hahaha!!!! ripple or Google? same shit!
Their the only news source I trust
They always did, I only rely on them, not that fake news
^That was a joke
Well, social media ceo already said that it is 100% safe, which is a lie, an irony, so, if we make another irony out of this, its gonna be an irony over an irony, thats nonsese, so if someone give you lies then give them the truth, or the other way around.
Just because its satir, doesnt mean its all lies in reality, it can become lies or truth depending on the original speaker, if onion speak the truth, then the one that they roast must be a liar.
Sad thing is that this is such an accurate description, it can hardly be called a satire anymore.
What people seem unable to understand anymore is satire is used in the first place to underline societal issues everyone sweeps under the rug, afraid to talk about. The dark side of the light side.
I come from the future, it get worse, way way worse.

I know this is a 5 year old comment, but for those still liking it, perhaps you all should for once look up what "satire" actually means.
Satire is a genre of literature and performing arts, usually fiction and less frequently in non-fiction, in which vices, follies, abuses and shortcomings are held up to ridicule, ideally with the intent of shaming individuals, corporations, government, or society itself into improvement.[1] Although satire is usually meant to be humorous, its greater purpose is often constructive social criticism, using wit to draw attention to both particular and wider issues in society.
"Your users won't always understand just how much economic sense it makes to sell them out. And you don't want to alienate them, that would drive down their value." Genius. Also, O’Brien from 1984 in corporate form.
Exactly! Because that's all we are to Facebook, Google, and the rest: we are the product.
The Onion has achieved something new. They started as parody, transitioned to satire, and now they've transcended satire and are simply doing news and labeling it as comedy. Bravo, Onion. Bravo.

He should have set up an ancestral DNA site and then sold people's genetic details to medical insurers and research companies.
If he did that, his brother be the ceo of onion watch.
Perhaps his next project...
I don't want to disturb you but maybe have a look at how china is handling DNA data from foreign country's at the moment especially concerning pregnancy lab reports etc 😅

@@RheeasDomain yeah, I'm really tired of people saying that they're just reporting the truth now. Satire has always done that. That's the point of satire.
@@ianhruday9584 I can say “the onion is reporting the truth now” without violating what you said because the Onion is NOT always satire. Sometimes it just spews stories that are hilarious but also completely fabricated that don’t make a point.
These are so much better than TED Talks because they're actually genuine.
Yes!
Brilliant shots at US tech companies!
all tech companys really.
Une Nombre by a US satire.
This is no longer satire... no longer satire.
The satire is in doing it and admitting it, not just doing it.
It wasn't satire then.

Satire is literally comedy that reflects reality...this is exactly what satire is.
I come from ten years in the future and this is still excellent!
The Onion really got the drop on Facebook with this one. I'm starting to think they actually have that time machine.
2:24 LMAO. I'm not sure why this is so funny, but the simplicity and elegance of the dude just staring is absolutely comedic gold to me.
It's the utter silence of the audience that sells it
This is Zuccerberg
Profits over people. The mantra of business.

This is not a satire. This is life today.
Still is
This is not even satire. This is reality.
And now they don't even like before.

The lamest thing about TED is when they have entertainers presenting their act as a "lecture." So annoying. Just do your damn magic tricks, jesus.
Dan Williams 😂
TED talks are 100% political in nature 5 years on
8 years later this is no longer satire, its real life
the awkward moment when TED becomes Onion, and Onion becomes TED.
Well this is more relevant than ever
I was just saying
And it will continue to be for the forseeable future.
For lot of websites these days website users/viewers are not the customer, they are the product [for advertisers etc].
It's sad to think that this is actually happening with Facebook with China :(
Only in china?? 😂😂
@@manublyatawd65 well said

Well the parodies of the past have come to fruition as Google is pursuing the same exact agreement with China.

Onion predicted future that is what facebook did it.
Every user of Facebook is complicit in their policy outcome at this point. It's not even too big to fail. No one in 1959 would have predicted the state of Sears in 2021. We'll see what happens, but it still appears the general public is still on the side of Facebook. Does it matter what Facebook does, when users simply accept it and continue to be subscribers despite all of the warnings and outright reveals‽
I'm going back and listening to all the Onion TED talks. So far, from 2020, this is the "best".
Blizzard learned from the Onion Talk! Amazing!
What a role model!! Men like him give me hope for a brighter future in our crumbling economy!
ok onion stop being prescient
I just discovered The Onion this week
20 year old Simpsons episode: *Finally, an worthy opponent!*
I don't think he went far enough with the descriptions. His new customers will have the dissidents and the dissidents' families tortured maimed and publicly executed for treason, with even the extended family suffering from the fallout
The thing is if you actually approached investors with this exact pitch you would probably get funded
No there is a lot of difference between selling out your users and pimping them out! You can only sell them out once, but you can pimp them out hundreds of times to sell all sorts of products.
One of the best onion talks so far
I started to tear up a bit from anti-laughter.
Gonna show this video to my kids. Very informative! 👍
What an inspiring story of a young enterpreneur. In a world full of hatred and failing enterprises this is really touching.
The onion youtube channel is an archive of underappreciated satire that was way ahead of its time.
More relevant now than ever before 👏👏👏👏
TED talks are like something you'd do on a first date to appear thoughtful.
This is the best Onion Talks yet. And in case anyone didn't notice, this is directly satirizing Facebook.
This Onion skit is more real than anything on the news today
My favourite parts of these are the shots of the audience staring blankly

They're secretly talking about America, that's the beauty of it.
