this song is 'bai tharo kesariyo hazari gul ro phool' and it talks about the wishes of a good life ahead of his sister by a brother. Yes it also talks about maadliyon(amulet or medallion) pertaining to Lord Krishna to protect her happiness(husband i think) from buri nazar.
allot of the rajasthan/romani music is so enthralling+most beautiful dresses!---ive heard that the desert snakes inspired their dance+movements,+ notice near all rajstan/romi vids have men playing those snake charming horns !just amazing music+visual! these rajastan/romani people are just one of many sanskrit-derived people based in pakistan-india-bangladesh [sindhi, bengali, gujrati, panjabi, marathi, etc,,hindi+urdhu of cours].only differnce is allot of romani left old india.
Growing up my heart was with this rhythm , the culture, the stories & the people I never knew why .. I get frustrated trying to figure out why, but it’s 2nd nature ❤️
OMG! YES!! I love this sequence to death. That girl does the best damn barrel turns in all of the universe! And I positively love that boy's singing. He's so adorable. Latcho Drom is a fantastic film and I'm so happy you shared this with us. ^_^
This is so interesting, please pay attention to the beginning of the video. I think it has a special message. The way they started making music out of some random sounds is very important. In flamenco, a gorgeous rythm named "MARTINETE" was born exactly as the video shows. Out of small sounds from hammers and other tools for labour. And well.. flamenco is very well known as a dance and culture from the gypsy culture. Excellent job!
Wow my dad made me watch this movie when I was younger and I ended up loving it. But i never knew what the name was. Its so good to see these scenes again.thx
@MzKatitzi I live in the U.S. and am learning about the Roma and their culture for the first time. I LOVE the music, dance, and costume! I am particularly interested in the Gitano of Andalusia. I can see how this Indian origin had an influence on the development of Flamenco. Wonderful stuff! (Don't ask how this American, with Irish ancestry got interested in the Romani. I can't explain. LOL) Watching the girl in the black dress is like watching a kaleidoscope. Amazing!
I went to the villages in the deserts of Rajasthan, India the summer just before the release of this film. When I saw these images in the film my heart dropped because I had just left these people. This is exactly what you see when traveling there. What a groundbreaking powerful documentary film.
the language is also very gypsy i m a rajasthani i couldnt understand the whole song rajasthani music have a turkish or middle eastern touch in it when you listen to it kinda feels like deserted heaven ,very emotional
Yeah - most music around the world has at one time or another drawn inspiration from it's environment, like you pointed out, this video underlines that fact - I am glad you liked it.
these are kalbelia's from thar desert of India which is in state of Rajasthan. They are nomads and iron smiths. History goes that they own their alligience to Maharana Pratap who lost Mewar in battle of haldighati to Akbar. He swore never to settle on any land except Mewar. He could never defeat Akbar and died a nomad. His kinsmen decided to keep his word and till date remain nomads. They are fun loving folks with talents for music and dance. They travel all over Rajasthan in their caravans,
Our people migrated from India 1500 years ago,new findings, according to the scientists. And its true, people from Punjab understand most of our language :)
hello Rebekka me from Punjab and I am searching about this link between European gypsy and india can u help me to find common words of punjabi and Romani language??
I am so glad all of you liked the video - please make time to see the movie 'Latcho Drom" if you haven't already - the clip is just one of the many good sequences in the movie
Desichhokri is an amazing handle to have, congrats and thanks for your comment. I would like to say something about the word "Gypsy" and why it has been used. The generic term for Nomads from the Thar is Banjaras in India - the closest English approximation is the word Gypsy. As you can see the title does refer to them as Banjaras.
I think we have got the wrong name as banjars as banjara word refer to people who r nomads and no home to stay ,we r aslo called as banjaras but we moved for trading and agriculture and we have a home and property , famous traders of India in past ,lakhi Rai vanjara, bhagawan das vadthya , Jagannath ,bhagganath ,makkhan Shah labana
@AryaVarta glad to hear/read that someone knows about our history :) its true that we "european" gipsys all come originally from India. The first group of Roma-People came to Sweden in the 1500-centurys. Sadly, most countrys in europe truly hate us and wants us to leave.
ostia q pasada me kedao sin palabras jajajaj buaaaaaaaa currelando y hacen cualquier compas o ritmo buaaaa y la voz del niño q pasada super bueno el video 5**** y pa favoritos
@DanceSuriya So sorry to hear that. The harsh realities of the modern world and new economy. In about a 100 years the Romany way of living shall be mostly gone. Its good to make videos like this for the preservation of a memory. Times have changed.
BANJARS ARE ORGIN FROM AFGHANISTAN GHOR PROVINCE. BANJARAS WERE UNITED BY MAHARAJ RUPSINGH JI AND BEFORE THAT THEIR ARE 4 CASTES CHAVDA(CHAUHANS) RATHORES PARMARS JADHAV
I am sorry the Banjara clarification was for the forum, I just happened to include it in my reply to you - as far as Kalbelia - it is a word that I was entirely ignorant of so thanks.
Bai thaaro kesriyo haazari re gul ro phool, aawe mehn chamke beejli.... Banna-saa thaaro madaliyo bisrayi ne, Kaanhu-de(Lord Krishna) re baabe bisrayi ne. Buhjhere re baabe....... bai-saa ro beero laadlo...
not just gypsies, all european tribes came from south asia. Not in one migration, but at different times different groups had migrated into europe from the densely populated region of south asia.
