Mily…..I have been working on this cloud technique for months. I came across your videos and followed your every word😁. For the first time my painting is stunning! I can’t tell you how happy you have made me. I finally get it.😁
You needed a mini whisk...lots of them. They clean up easy. Just with a swish of water and your done. Ready for a new colour. Loving your tutorial!! Stayed to the end. Wow...I see the need to watch the consistency. Beautiful combination of colour and that centre really makes a statement. Glad the finish turned out well.
This is a great tutorial! Thank you Mely D! Mixing paints ahead of time, less air bubbles. Please do a new video on how you mix for the cloud pour. I’m sure you have lots of newbies that would love to see how You do it.
I use little rubber coated whisks to mix my paints. No rushing and they do a great job and not many air bubbles plus you can get into every corner of the cup.
I'm so glad I found you again!!! Didn't know your beautiful name but I won't forget it now Thank you for doing what you do! It's such a huge help to us all painting
I have used about every brand out there...I have settled on Arteza for my pours.... They stay true to the color with up to four or five parts floetrol. I have never seen those bubbles....so I am thinking it might be water. For the price of a 14 pack ...like you just used with 4oz of paint in each one... I get so much paint for the dollar. But price isn't everything... but it is still a variable I consider. I don't feel artist loft holds its color and Liquitex doesn't mix as well. And those two cant take the amount of floetrol Arteza does without fading or losing the integrity of the paint. I like how you analyze and keep an open mind.
It's such a beautiful painting. The colors are gorgeous too. Thank you for the tutorial Mely D. It was so helpful & I learnt so much today. Would love to see you do more of these wrecks.
Thank you for sharing you rprocess, Mely D! I always learn so much from your videos, and I only wish I'd started watching them before I wasted so much paint! ❤️
Thanks for this! I don't pre-mix my paints. When I get a lot of air bubbles in the paint, I bang it on the table a few times before using it. That helps to pop them so you don't have to torch it. Just don't bang it too hard. I've had it fly up out of the cup. Makes a big big mess!
I also struggle with air bubbles and the white dots with torching. I always let my mixed paint rest 24 hours and it helps a little but doesn't eliminate it. Have used Floetrol, glue, GAC, Liquitex PM and the issue arises with all of them. I use a number of different paint brands. It's a really frustrating issue! Thanks for this analysis and demo, I always learn something helpful from your videos.
Thanks Molly! This technique is so fun and easy. Same as with the puddles but in a ring and I'm pretty sure it must be a win almost every time. Thanks for sharing your idea! :)
This was fantastic! Just like a personalized learning session!! Thank you!! I commented about this painting on Facebook, yet here it seems like a totally different piece. On UA-cam, you can see the texture of goosebumps all over, especially after it's dried. Then you see how it interacts with the weave of the canvas and then it changes as the light moves across the surface. This just blows me away! Guess I should buy it, eh?!?!!? Nicely done, my friend!
Really interesting video. I learned a lot. And the painting is gorgeous, especially loved the upper left corner. Am mostly using your technique with Liquitex and water. Jus use flotrol when I hope to,get cells
There's a head-phoned cutie in the background! I'd love to hear his commentary on your commentary : ) Thank you for sharing your "analyzing mode" with us. Bests xoxo
Thank you MelyD ❗️The video was a good lesson in mixing & end results 😃 The pour wrecked as it was, was great! Those red, green & blue lines were perfect ❗️Lately I’ve tried to let my mixed paints rest overnight, which has been helpful. But they seem to need a little more H2O when ready to pour. So keep eyeballing it❗️😎
It really has beautiful colors and love the “wrec of ring”. You are just so full,of I,porta this information and I love listening to you and sharing your knowledge. I agree with you after seeing it dried. As I was watching you I was thinking “will I use my Arteza paints. I always mix the day before. Unbelievable dried results. Love it.
Yeah, I'm thinking the water is breaking down the binders. Golden and Liquitex do have better pigment binders and I've used up to 30% water with those without getting that separation. Too bad in this piece since you have a great composition, but those spots do take away from it. Letting the paint sit overnight also helps a lot in allowing the bubbles a chance to dissipate and then like you say adjust consistency just before use, but gently stirring in the water. Floetrol does help with that problem somewhat so maybe that's an experiment for you to try. I know, I know you don't use it. LOL. Thanks so much for going to the trouble to do these experiments.
Painting is cool! Yes let paint sit for at least 2 hours after mixing, air incorporates when you mix. I'm sure that will help. Try making a puddle 1st, then pour onto puddle instead of canvas.
This is the content I like to see. I don't want to just see the art, I want to learn the observations and thought process behind it too. As usual good stuff Mel, keep it coming. Not many people I'm subscribed to makes me want to pull out a canvas and paint for a while like you do.
I've been wanting to try the arteza paints so thank you for showing how you mixed them. So many other artists have an exact recipe and whenever I've tried that it doesn't work. I've found like you said that each color or brand mixes totally differently. It's like you just have to feel it. You more than anyone else has taught me sooo much and I love your experiments😊 Thank you❤️
It can be touch toget it smooth...I love the colors but it’s tough. It’s interesting how different the viscosity is for each color. Good to know that you mix the pour med first then add water aft.
Thanks for producing this video Melissa, I've been waiting for this for SOOO long, I have a bunch of paints that I've been wanting to use but as they cost me so much have been scared to try another pour for fear of wasting them with not getting the right consistency but you just came to the rescue! So THANK YOU! xx Leaving this comment before I got to the painting part :-)
I'm so glad I helped you our Gary! Lotsa love to ya in the U.K. lucky you, you have access to all their products! I can't get purple, orange or the ready to pour paints because I'm in Canada. So weird.
I had to Google surfactant. Interesting statement. I thought it was because of the water and intense mixing 🤔 I don't use floetrol because I buy my products at the art store. I also sell my paintings and prefer a good quality product. I almost tried floetrol once. A company sent me a bottle to compare to Liquitex p.m. Let's just say they did not get a positive response. It was white, thick and lumpy. I poured some in a cup and thought no way am I adding paint to that lol! To each their own! :)
I really like these paints, but they are different than other thick paint from a tube. I generally use 50/50 ratio paint to floetrol, but i was using more floetrol with these paints to thin them down. I dont use a lot of water because it was causing me problems for me. These paints also work great for just painting in general IMO. Love watching your experiments! Keep up the Great work!!
Hi again. One more question for today. What do you do with the left over paint ? You mentioned mixed media girls bottles but when you have left over how do you deal with that? Thank you.
Great video ! 🤗💙💙💙 I use Arteza paints and I haven't this problem off bubbles... but I use floetrol, and then water mixing with about 10% of floetrol... and I try to let my paint 15/30 mn...
Wow! This is gorgeous and the colors are amazing!! It reminds me of a giant sting ray under water. So pretty. Thanks for the tutorial. It was really helpful. And thanks for sharing this piece. I really enjoy you and your work.❤️
Hi Meli... I so remember you sticking your fingers in the paint... and making yourself back away! 😂 Everyone seems to love Arteza products. I got the Gouache paints for Christmas after hinting as I'm trying my hand at watercolor and they are so creamy and delicious! Loved you sharing your whole process and talking us thru it❣ can't wait to see the next one. Laura m🦋

@@MelyDartist Must be ingredients don't pass customs? Strange... Those ready pour kits have been super popular esp since Arteza sent sponsor packs to so many UA-cam artists. But for the price everyone is happy with the products!
Good to hear your observation on these paints 👍 I’ve found this to be so true throughout my own painting journey. I’m happy to discover I don’t have to use an excessive amount of PM or paint to have amazing results. Your painting turned out beautifully 😍 I can’t wait to give this a try 😀 Lived this video 👌
Great educational video Mely!! Thank you!! Yellow Ochre is a great color when white is added to to can achieve beautiful sand color and/or Naples Yellowish.. Did you let the paint rest over night? Maybe the water reacted with something in the paint to cause bubbles while pouring? Try the paint with medium only, even though it will be too thick to pour, but just to see if result would be no bubbles. Is there chlorine or anything in the water? Tap water? Try distilled water?? I think itsBEAUTIFUL painting Mely!!!
Love your art! Just a tip, if you're using the whole package of Arteza...leave the cap on and cut off the bottom and squeeze it all out that way. Super fast and you get it all out

The air bubbles are due to the water interacting with the surfactant they use to reduce surface tension. Why do you avoid the use of Floetrol?

Hi that was very interesting to watch. I was somewhat surprised what you actually got in quantity from one packet of paint, which was between 1/2 - 3/4 of those cups (how much do those cups hold in mls?) it did not seem like a lot of paint. I was just thinking that you almost used 3-4 of those Arteza packets in that pour. Over here in Australia those packet would have cost at least the same amount as the Atelier or Liquitex Heavy body 138mls acrylic paint and that's around AUS $24.50 exc freight. So the painting you did would work out to approx $70-$90 AUS. That's probably why the pourers I have watch so far, and I have watched a lot mix they paint at least 1:2 (paint to poring medium) Although, Golden flow acrylic are different. Sorry I haven't commented about your finished piece. I do appreciate the strong line colouring and definite distinction between the colours, I don't mind the dominance of the green, but I prefer more negative space. I know there is quite a bit of red that could be considered the negative space. It just doesn't, for me make the colours pop, or give the piece the WOW factor like the black and white minimalist collaboration piece you did. I do however, look forward to your next video. Cheers from downunder 🙋🏼🤗
