Magpies swoop during breeding season when you get too close to the tree with their nest in it. They are territorial and are protecting their young.
I've found that when people feed them scraps of food they no longer see us as threats and don't swoop. In country Vic, my parents have 2 families of magpies who visit them and I've had a small family of maggies bring their baby over to my place to introduce it to a friend who might offer free food. I reckon it's a fair trade as their carolling is the most beautiful sound of Australia.

I think it's a sign of absolute respect that you did not try and make up things in our way of life just to fill up time. I watched the whole video and thought that this is a guy who has embraced a different way of looking at things. Anyone is welcome here but we certainly like people who embrace a culture (we do have a culture here contrary to pop belief) , and who is willing to step out of their comfort zone to enjoy AUS, warts and all. no, Wolf spiders are not "deadly". The bite from a wolf spider will only give you "swelling, mild pain, and itching" - you won't even need to go to a doctor (you will from a Sydney Funnelweb though). Nobody has died in Australia from a spider bite since antivenom was produced in the 1950s.
I thought a wolf spider bite caused a flesh eating disease

@@mikoguy In Australia, the white tailed spider is our famous flesh eater....Venom from the white-tailed spider is listed as non-lethal. It has not been shown to cause necrotic ulcers, which could result in the need for amputation.

You were lucky that Tiger snake didn't bite you that time on the farm, now that would've been life threatening, and you didn't recall your encounter with the Carolina Reaper Salt, I wonder why? - LOL ! For you that don't know this guy, and he would never say it, but his life since he returned home from Oz, and the things he's had to go through and the way he has handled it, are truly amazing - to say that he's resilient, is an understatement. Awww I wanna go back to Australia! I've been there for one year work & holiday and it was so great. Never got to Perth and Darwin in corona time tho but on the east coast alone you can explore so many different places, meet tons of great ppl and the food. Omg I miss some really great dishes here in Europe now. I really wanna try to go back and maybe stay there for a few more years. Australians are the best ppl in the world and I miss their lifestyle just so much. Thanks for your honest stories, it was very entertaining and made me kind of homesick again.

The tree with the ladder to the top is the Gloucester Tree and it's in Pemberton WA. Beautiful view over the top of the forest.

The hottest temperature ever recorded in Australia is 123 Fahrenheit/ 50.5 Centigrade at Oodnadatta. The hottest temperature I have experienced here is 115 Fahrenheit/ 46 Centigrade on the Nullabor Plain in 2008. Where I live SE Queensland we have temperatures of 108 Fahrenheit/ 42 centigrade a few times each summer. Glad you enjoyed Australia.
I lived in Karratha in the Pilbara for a while. Regularly 50o in summer.
It was 46 in western Sydney only couple years back

Seriously, we were always told to watch the ground when walking to school, to not look up, no exposing eyeballs when magpies are around!

Magpies recognise people, if they initially perceive you as a threat you remain a threat in their eyes, if not than you’re never a threat.
Magpies swoop here in Australia, only when they have babies in their nest. We wear shorts because summer can get VERY HOT as you mentioned. Glad you enjoyed your visit mate 🙂🙃👍

I seem to hear a lot from Americans that Australia is always hot and we don’t have winter. Can I please say that Australia does have winter it depends on what part of the country you are in and yes it does snow in parts of NSW, Victoria and Tasmania. The further south you go go on the eastern side of Australia the colder it is. Tassie being the coldest and has a lot of snow. 😊

So true most of the animals here are very shy and non aggressive. Some are aggressive but mostly they hide away even the deadly ones... Wallabies are so shy it's so fun many how they look at you then hop away after being frozen with fear for a few minutes on then when they have literally no choice cos Ure walking to close they randomly hop off - thumping into the eucalyptus trees. And the koalas up so high in the trees lazily looking down munching on the leaves getting high - BUT , super shy none the less.

It does snow here in Australia in winter in a few places.
Just gotta correct, Wolf Spiders aren't that bad. The Aussie species has been associated with necrotic wounds, but research has never proven it. More likely the necrotic nature is due to a complication for some other reason. The truth is their bites will cause itching, pain and swelling, but deadly? Not likely. I'm actually curious if it really was a wolf spider, because the most common spider you'd come across that looks like that is a Huntsman, and they really aren't that bad. They're big, but relatively harmless to anything smaller than a small insect (unless they run out from above the sun visor on your car, which may cause you to swerve into oncoming traffic in shock), but they keep the insect population down so you'd never kill one, maybe just move it to the outdoor area of the house.
Oh, and btw, I worked at KFC as a kid, one head of chicken is 10 pieces, so if you ate 2 whole chickens plus 15 pieces of KFC, you had 3 and a half chickens. Just want to make sure you're claiming all your bragging rights!

The tree you climbed was the Gloucester Tree near Pemberton, in the South West of Western Australia. It's a Karri tree 72 Metres (236.22 Feet) high....

LOVED OZ when I visited there in 2011. I live in Auckland NZ so even compared to New Zealand the Australians are pretty relaxed. The casual attire could also be related to the hot weather. I saw guys who had just been clubbing in Sydney and they were in board shorts and flip flops... no shirt. Australians are very casual

if you are looking for Nando's its just Portuguese style bbq chicken - cut out the spine, flatten it out marinade in lemon, chilli, salt and pepper, sprinkle sugar in the last 5 minutes to crisp the outside, serve with rice and salad

When I was a child, there was a Magpie which was so aggressive that it caused a friend to get 6 stitches to her scalp. The wildlife ranger came out and shot him; it’s always a male , with his 22 rifle. Another one in the same family line was much the same. You can hear them approaching with the raising of Doppler effect as is approached. This time ;I was only about 7 years old, I was holding a fence palling . I raised the palling above my head , instead of it avoiding it , it hit it , dying, and I did feel little bit bad for a while.

Quick tip for foreigners from an Aussie. If you're ever drivin' in straya, and nearly hit someone you have to wave or there's gonna be trouble. The wave is basically a sorry gesture
Chicken salt is soup sauce. It comes Ina cube. Mix it with salt
In perth with my friends we enjoy fish and (French fries) with squeezed lemon juice on the the fish, vinegar and chicken salt on the (French fries) and all taken down with a beer.

You need to try the other parts of Oz as you will find it VERY different environments to WA ( which is AMAZING) the East Coast is totally different. We are a very diverse Continent
Kudos to this guy! However just one correction: wolf spiders in australia although large do not pose a danger to humans or pets, Having said that, I am quite spooked at seeing any spider and do my best to be able to identify them so as not to kill those that are not harmful.

Magpies do that during their nesting season, they are protecting their nest. :) Darwin in the Northern Territory. The best wildlife, the best people = No covid (Rona) at all - never got here :) OH and best quarantine experience IMHO also cheapest shortest flights to Thailand etc
