John McDonnell seizes ceremonial mace in protest at Heathrow third runway

- The Labour backbencher picked up the mace, an ornamental club that represents the royal authority of Parliament, as Transport Secretary Geoff Hoon was unveiling the government's plans in a statement to the Commons. McDonnell, whose constituency of Hayes and Harlington contains Heathrow, received a five-day suspension.

Because Brits don't pick and choose based on their feelings. Any doubt and it's a vote.
Why did they have to do a vote?
A vote was called for whether the MP in question should be suspended or not.
