RIP Nez. The quiet (unsung) talent of the group.
He was.
“Unsung?” Hardly. Esteemed by his bandmates and widely considered one of the great songwriters and innovators of the Pop/Rock Era.
So precious to see him doing this live, especially now. RIP, MN.

Mike Nesmith was one of my earliest music heroes. Music became very important to me at an early age, so when the Monkees came around, I was hooked on their catchy songs and stage persona. I'm a professional musician to this day and I was influenced by all of the greats in classic rock. Nesmith and the Monkees included.
Bye Mike. He was so underrated by mainstream, but not by true music lovers. We always know who makes good music. He added so much to all arts.

A great songwriter and genius. He is Monkeeing around in Monkee heaven with Davy and Peter! The Monkees and Mike will live forever in our hearts and memories!
Sadly another talent from my wonder years has left us today.

I enjoyed The Monkees I’m glad to be a fan of Mike and Micky.
Saw Mike at the Palais St Kilda in 1976/7…… even met him back stage…..so cool for a high school kid…
He was the quiet Monkee for sure but so talented. He was the MAIN reason the Monkees toured for real as he pushed to play their own instruments & to prove how great they could be....not just 4 goofy guys acting up, the music was real & Mike's talent unsurpassed.
Was at that show ... a sheer joy

Here i am in my 60s and Im still so sad at Mike's passing. Im sad about Davy and Peter too. As a kid I admired these guys and bought the albums. Now only Mickey is left so the Monkees died with Mike Nesmith. God rest them and God bless Mickey Dolenz.

@@lincbond442 fuck. no. I went to a show in Wisconsin the night before, and came home with the plan of going to Chi for the show, but I was dead beat and I was picturing Chicago Friday afternoon traffic and bailed. I'm pretty disappointed, but what can ya do.

The special thing about these Monkees they played rock and country music and even a few love songs God bless.
He looks so different from how he looked in the 60’s but he sounds exactly the same when he sings.
Of all the talented artists, I agree that Papa Nez was surely at the top of the list , for not only was he a great songwriter and musician, but also a pioneer of Music Television!!! RIP DAVY, MIKE AND PETER, definitely 'if there's a rock-'n'-roll heaven, then you know they got a helluva band'!!!!
He was so talented. Why did it take him getting into the Monkees to get recognized. 😳
I think he would’ve done anyway in time, but being in The Monkees accelerated that and it was the right time for him. Thankfully he pushed for his songs to be included with him and Peter Tork pushing for them to be a proper band.

Great to see Michael Nesmith on the 12 string Guitar ( I think it was a Gretche ) but, I'm not sure. Oh well, life goes on! 😊😁

I was a little disappointed in the middle lead section. I was wondering if they would have been able to pull off James Burton's solo licks. But a good version by Nez on the singing part. A we bit slower then the recorded version. I wonder if it was recorded at the tempo Michael sang it at now and Boyce and Hart just speeded up the recording?
It’s always difficult to mirror a studio recording, 50 years after the recording. Interesting point you make about the original speed
@@rogerd3051 Yes I know very few "live" performances ever match a studio recording. Heck we cannot keep a tempo in church choir. Plus Age maybe a factor with Nez. He was a twenty-something when this was recorded. It always amazes me that Bare Naked Ladies can keep the same time with the Big Bang Theory song.
So does anybody know exactlky who "Papa Gene" was? I'm pretty sure it wasn't Roddenberry, and I doubt it was Senator McCarthy, so who was this "Papa Gene"?
