In American's defense, you flew through Chicago on the coldest day of the year (January 15). My guess is that you would have made it out of Chicago and not missed your connection in LA had the weather been normal.
He also complains about having multiple flights but he chose to have multiple flights. There are other options available.
@@CurlyHairedCarlwhen did he complain about that?
American Airlines for me is the worst airline ever to board
Dude idk why people think American airlines is so bad I've flown them lots of times and every time I've flown them I've had a good flight and experience
Fr me and my mom never had problems with them
I travel extensively for my job and use American 75% of the time. Very rarely do I experience any issues. Can't say the same for the other 25%.
Same
American Airlines is the best😊
Yeah ❤
I wonder how long it will take for me to get blacklisted from an airline... which should I fly next?
you should fly emirates!
Southwest Airlines!
@@Anson240I think he said he was gonna fly Emirates First Class
Southwest
LOT Polish Airlines
Your politeness despite constant stress is admirable! Kudos to you.
at the end of the day it isn't the crew / pilot or ground staff who cause a plane to break down and they're human too, so I always try to be as nice as possible since I know they are also stressed. I swear when I am on my own as you saw when I was walking over but never to the people since they already need to deal with angry people so often
Man wrote an entire paragraph this dude is amazing
@@ericstrukI flew on American from London to Philly and the experience was pretty good for me
self induced stress.
I never comment on videos, but something about this one fueled my fire 😂 just with that first flight, it was on a CRJ200 which has tiny overhead bins that can’t accommodate anyone’s carry-on sized bags. Also booking a 30 minute layover in ORD is insane. Idk, it just seems like some of these issues are more of a result of poor planning, rather than problems on AA’s part. Also that first flight was operated by Air Wisconsin, so it’s also not really fair to put it in an AA video. Idk, just some observations 🤷🏼♂️
tbh I just sent it with the booking since #1 it was incredibly cheap and #2 I knew it would be fun for content
Excellent points. Anyone who's traveled more than just casually knows not to book such a tight connection. AND not to book a THIRD flight all on the same day.
Good point about the first flight. Delta Connection, American Eagle, etc are not operated by the big name airline, they are all operated by smaller companies, Air Wisconsin, Republic, etc.
@@ericstruk "Fun for content"?? At the expense of American Airlines. I think your motive is quite clear now.
I have flown American all my life. I have never had problems. I flew them just a few weeks ago and was impressed. I was in a wheelchair and they were very accommodating. They even changed my seat on the first flight to make it easier on me. Most of your issues on your flights could happen to any airline at anytime. You knew you were taking a chance when you booked your flights so closely together. And you did get a hotel room and a meal voucher. They seemed to be accommodating. Most airlines are having troubles now and after Covid people in general complain about everything. Just saying.
I feel AA is more of a crap shoot, as in you could get a good flight or a bad one. For me, I did have more hits than misses with American, one not as good flight was from Jacksonville to Ontario, partially because why go to Charlotte instead of Dallas, but it was kinda a poor flight for me.
To me, American couldn't be any worse than Delta or United. I flew on American and they took good care of me when I flew on them. I took United also and they were good too. However, Delta, I was not impressed with them at all.
I agree, completely, with your comment. This is HIS FAULT. When you gamble with short connections (ORD in the winter😵💫), knowing that you have a one-shot, international connection, don't complain when you miss it due to poor planning. If you want to be certain that you make that international flight, go to LA the day before and get a hotel. Either that, or leave Toronto earlier in the day.
Tony Black, I agree with you, American has always treated me well. United is the absolute worst.
Me too I've been flying american alot recently but I haven't had a problem
I really appreciate how you are mindful towards other people on the flight and you are quiet so you don’t trouble everyone and if something is like annoying like that guy sitting next to you without permission, you just do a voiceover.❤
This guy is my favorite airline review youtuber Keep up the good work Eric!! I loved the video :)
You really cannot blame American as a bad airline. I mean yes I once thought this airline sucked, but after flying with them for over 5 years and around twice a year you cannot blame them. The lack of delays is for our own safety, and sometimes its not our fault. I once flew Jetblue and we got stuck in Boston sitting in the plane for 4 hours after another 3 hour delay at the gate. Stuff like this isnt the airline, but it is extremely frustrating.
I enjoyed your video, but you are flying in the middle of winter and there are a lot of delays caused by the weather. I am a Gold level status member on AA and yes, I have been on delayed flights too and missed a few. They did put you up for the night. You should have bought travel insurance. If you have a delay over 4 hours, they pay you back the price of your ticket and any out of pocket expenses. AA is no different then Delta, Air Canada, United, or any other airline. Shit happens. You just have to deal with it. The 787 that you flew on to NZ, they are not a nice as the A350.
You gave yourself a short connection at ORD, knowing that you have an international connection? That part of this is your fault, due to poor planning. You should have flown into LAX the day before. Then you're not having to bet that everything goes perfectly for you. If you were to drive from Toronto to Chicago to Los Angeles, could you guarantee an arrival time, in LA, +/- 1 hour? Too many things can go wrong in the real world. In the airline world this means weather(delays + holding), mechanicals, personnel issues, computer systems malfunctions, passengers getting ill (inflight) causing diversions, etc.
I will never understand why so many reviewers seem to long for and want airplane food. I always just want a free Coke and a snack. Many years ago airlines used to have cold cut sandwiches with mayo and everything else on the side. That was the good old days for me because when airlines try to get gourmet, they really blow it and get it wrong.
With over 200 flights in my travel history, I always look for cheaper flights and no frills. A snack and Coke is fine to hold me over until I land and get a real meal. I also do think in-flight entertainment is better than using a phone. I never use my phone. I shut it off once I get on the plane. Why do so many people need to be connected all the time?
From a passenger inflight experience perspective, I was disappointed to learn that American Airlines would discontinue their Personal (in-seat) TVs for all but their long-haul wide-body aircraft, but AA still has decent service and great pilots and flight attendants!
13:56. Ouch!!! “I found the safety pamphlet, which is important because this plane is a Boeing”. Such sophisticated savagery for Boeing’s safety and quality problems with their airplanes.
if they take me out just know I didnt do it myself

Eric, I have an idea for you, flying (one of) the best budget airline (well- it got the award for best budget airline in 2022 and 2023) but its flysafair, I promise, you will love it. Let’s say your carry on is overweight, they don’t charge you extra. They don’t even weigh your carry on. I think it would be a cool idea since you’ve never done any African airlines. Oh yeah it also carries the national South African rugby team, the springboks. (Ps if you want more legroom. CHOOSE AN ISLE SEET OR BULKHEAD ROW (don’t worry it only costs 2,5 USD for seat selection)

This was a very well made video, I've also been to New Zeeland but I departed from Dubai and the flight lasted for 16 hours, so I understand the feeling of seeing the beautiful land at the ariving😂
I went on an American Airlines 737 over the summer of 2023, and it definately was not bad at all. Especially since I am very tiny, i had a lot of room. Overall, it was a nice experience, i didn't miss any flights, and it was all good. The flight attendants were nice aswell.
yay new video. Also, in defense of American Airlines, the crj200 that you were on was first meant to be a private jet but then airlines wanted it as a regional jet after it was produced so they had to quickly put seats in it and hand it off to airlines.
Plus, American Airlines doesn’t even operate
Which is also why he had to gate check his bag to Chicago. The CRJ200, as noted, has absolutely zero room for roller boards.

My favorite Aviation Vlogger is back with another W video!! 🌟 💜
First flight is actually american eagle and he should have clarified that. The service in main cabin/coach is pretty standard. Carry on gate check on those planes are standard. They did explain the problem and excessive cold weather causes problems
Don’t get me wrong. But it seems that when someone comes with biased opinions and expects the worse, it’s exactly what he gets.
And, a little bit of advice from a former AA employee: program your flights with not-so-tight connections. Things like the one you went through might come often, so, try to schedule your flights in advance so you can get the better schedules with more ample connecting times.
So... you got me to watch the entire video due to the title. Absolutely nothing awful at all as it pertains to American Airlines. The first flight (the "it was so loud" plane) was on a CRJ (Canadian plane) which likely was flown by SkyWest or Air Wisconsin. That plane has likely rotated between UA and AA over the years. So.... nothing about it making AA "more awful" than what you would have had on UA or DL. Your Chicago issue was weather related. I can guarantee United and Delta were having the same issues at ORD at that time. As for seat pitch... you paid for economy. You're going to get anywhere from 30 to 32 inches of pitch on UA, DL or AA. And... they all use those same slimline seats. And the bathroom on the (I presume) 737 is just as small as what you'll get on UA and DL. Why didn't you spend a little more and at least get one of the Main Cabin Extra seats? You've got more legroom there. Finally... it is never a good idea to do THREE flights in one day with the last one being an intercontinental flight. It's always a good idea to give yourself a one day buffer before that intercontinental flight. Lesson learned I hope. Oh, and your LAX hotel - that Sheraton is a very nice hotel. If AA wanted to treat you in a truly awful manner, they would have put you up in the La Quinta across from the Westin a little further down the street. One final thing, just for reference: DL came in best for on time performance in 2023 at 84%, AA came in at #3 at 80%. The worst? Air Canada at 63%.
Hey Eric, thanks for coming to New Zealand!
I tried American last December from LAX to HND, where I picked the last roll of the B787. Although it was very noisy and crowded, they had unexpectedly large seat room + 2 seats at the last few rolls. Overall the crews were awesome!! I would give a try with American next time!
Honestly American is more of a crap shoot than others in my opinion. You can get good ones or bad ones.
As for the no IFE screens, IIRC, only Delta and JetBlue (and maybe others) have IFE screens/TVs. The other US-based airlines removed them.
Right. If you must fly in economy and you're planning a leisure trip, book as far in advance as possible and take a look at the seat map. Those last rows with the 2 seats across instead of 3 seats across make a big difference.
A seasoned traveler would have booked morning flights, much less chance of delays. People want cheap fares and first class service and comfort - there's no such thing. Flying AA is no better or worse than any other airline. This guy was just looking for things to whine about.
Yep, always fy early in the morning, more slack is available to make up for delays.

I’ve also had bad stuff happen to me on American Airlines. Flying back to Chicago from Paris (via Dallas), my checked bag was on a later flight from Dallas and had to wait three hours at baggage claim for it to come in. This was October 2021. And flying to Calgary a year later we had a gate change. But I’m counting my blessings because this was the worst I experienced from them. Not to mention they also screw you over on the meal service even on long-haul flights.
Alright, here’s my AA story:
I was going to Lima Peru to visit family about 2 years ago and it is a 8-10 hour flight from New York and I don’t remember what plane we were on but it had a 3x3x3 seat configuration. When we got on, the plane was delayed 30 minutes, dirty, and on a about 8 hour flight had no flight entertainment and only had entertainment through their website which barely worked. Once they gave us dinner all they had was very cold bread with egg and nothing else, which they just tossed around. A lot of other Peruvians were on the flight and I remember one family was complaining since the service was terrible. Once that flight was over, my family decided to never fly American ever again
On Friday I was on the runway and then my flight just got canceled and then they didn’t give me a refund
That really sucks man.
I feel bad
You absolutely got a refund. Why lie for UA-cam comment points lol
I feel bad you had to do this, however your videos are very well made and I enjoyed every second of them!

I once dealt with an 8 hour delay at Dallas to Jackson Hole with American Airlines. Next year in Denver, an American Airlines flight to Dallas was cancelled because it was too hot.

Also this video the thing is some American flights are good and bad for example I flew on American and it was a amazing flight with inflight entertainment and free snacks and Wi-Fi this was your experience anyways love ur content
I believe you set this up to be a bad flight. You scheduled very short connections which is unreasonable, especially when you're connecting twice. Your choice of departure time from your original city was not the smartest move. You should have scheduled an early flight out of Toronto and planned on a long layover in Los Angeles. Early morning flights have less chance of delays. What you did made for a frustrating experience, but again I believe you designed it that way. Clearly, you are not well-traveled and should not be considered a reliable source for reviewing an airline. A final note...my airline of choice is United...I do not work for American.
I have flown American many times and I believe eive he is treating them unfairly

It is, though their pilots and maintenance are top notch.
American will NEVER tell you why they are delayed. They don't think you deserve to know. And most of the time, the staff is incredibly rude, and they really do treat you like cattle. The last time I flew American was eight years ago. I'm in a wheelchair, but they flung me around like a piece of luggage.. I've never flown them again. When I travel anywhere, no matter how long the trip, I fly Delta. They have the most comfortable seats, the nicest flight crew, and they have the best on-time flights out of any other airline, You've flown with the worst, now fly the best!
Agreed. I try to avoid them because the in flight crew is groggy and indifferent. Flat out rude at times.

This is a misleading review by another entitled Millennial with nothing between the ears. You blamed the delay out of Chicago on AA where they clearly said it was from the extreme cold. Rule #1 Airlines don't control the weather. You missed your flight to Auckland where you said there was a "tight" layover. Rule #2 NEVER schedule a connecting flight with a "tight" layover with an International Flight. That is just common sense. I don't like American Airlines and after decades of flying I avoid them at all cost. But if you are going to do "reviews" like this in the future at least schedule some buffer time and consider the weather, time of year, and all other parameters when considering flying to the other side of the world. BTW.....I am not sure if AA HAD to provide you with a hotel since weather is considered an "act of God" which is in the contract.

I have had a couple great experiences with American and a couple bad ones. The bad ones were similar where we had to just sit on the runway and get on a bus/taxi thing to take us where we needed.
Can you test out YYZ Express sometime?
Flew RJs a lot when I worked at Continental. Don't think we ever had a situation where they opened the door before the gate checked bags were brought out. But, that was 20 years ago, and it's likely that procedures have changed since that time. Then again, American was bad even then, so...

A year ago I flew Air New Zealand direct from Chicago to Auckland, about 16 hours. In spite of the length, it was one of the best international flights I've ever taken. Air New Zealand's domestic service is so-so, but at least the flights within New Zealand are short.
