This was very interesting. Yoshi has been my main since Melee. I don’t really pay attention to the competitive side of Smash since I didn’t really think people would use Yoshi but after hearing all this, it was really nice to know.
Honestly Yoshi feels like the most underrated of the classics characters. Also ya forgot Yoshi’s melee edge guarding with his egg toss, the ledge techniques, parrying. Also also Brawl and onward not only does Yoshi gain height but can also stall with his recovery by repeating use. They nerf the stall in Smash 4 and Ultimate.
I feel like something that should’ve been noted for 64s that Yoshi was a really good check to Pikachu because Yoshi is able to armor most of Pikachu’s edge-guard.
Good video, but I think the "strengths and weaknesses" section really should be broken down by game. He plays pretty different in the different Smash games. For instance, which in Ult he has a really good oos option with sh instant nair, in Melee all he can do oos is shieldgrab (and his grab's really bad in that game), roll, and spotdodge, so really not much at all. Granted he has the best shield drop in the game, but that's only applicable on platforms.
If I ever had one wish in life, it would be for my dino boi to have Egg Roll either reworked into something snappy and useful (I'm thinking something along the lines of a Peach Bomber with soft armor, maybe?) or have it completely replaced with basically _anything_ else.
Actually, now that I think of it... I would be curious to hear from other fellow Yoshi mains about what a cool, new Side-B could be! The reason I think an "Egg Bomber" move would be cool is because I feel like it would give him a neat little mixup when approaching; he struggles with getting in a good range with sword fighters, and I feel like Egg Bomber wouldn't be too OP, but can be used in a mindgamey way, such as to call out swordy-bois when they just spam Fairs or Nairs just out of Dino boi's range.
@@JDLupus Honestly? Give Yoshi a new version of Neutral B (so a tongue flick) but it acts as a reflector and/or tether recovery. Or just update neutral b with that, and make egg throw more accurate to Yoshi's Island (long ranged and FAST) It's accurate enough to the source material, helps Yoshi out, but doesn't make them broken.
@@isoldemaisol3709 I'm afraid I might respectfully disagree with most of this... ^^;; His neutral B is so valuable against shielding opponents as he doesn't have many options in that regard, and he really doesn't need a tether recovery as he already has some of the most dynamic options for getting back onstage. His Up-B is one of the most versatile and fun-to-master projectiles in the game, too, and I would be SO sad to lose it... I do, however, REALLY love the Yoshi's Island egg throw idea if it were to be his new Side-B! I'm imagining pressing Side B to bring up the reticle that moves up and down, and then whether it's cancelled or used to throw an egg, the reticle's angle is then frozen and that'll be where it resumed the next time Side-B is pressed! Might be a teeeeensy bit broken if he had both versions of the egg throw so there might need to be a bit of balancing between the two, but the more I'm thinking about this the more I'm feeling like this would make him just the perfect character :)
@@JDLupus Yeah sorry I don't think I was clear. I was saying one of these two options: 1) Keep regular neutral B and make the side B a reflector version of neutral B (basically two different tongues moves) 2) Update regular neutral B to do what it does AND be a reflector, kinda like Dedede's succ but with egg laying and a tether grab, plus the Yoshi's Island egg throw as a side B. Basically, I agree with you, I just didn't write out my idea properly. Also, writing this out, I feel like both are a bit overpowered lol. But Yoshi's specials are so situational anyways, so having a reason to use them regularly would be cool.
@@isoldemaisol3709 Aaah, I getcha~! And pardon me for completely missing how we'd been talking about Side-B's in the first place... as well as for any holier-than-thou tone I might've had (I feel like that tone is there whenever I'm typing any kind of disagreement not matter how hard I try not to.) I fully agree with you and adore the both of those ideas~! The only problems with both of them truly are their probably-overpoweredness but that isn't stopping me from 100% wanting either of them! :D
You talk like melee Yoshis bair and uptilt are better than they are in 64, which they are not. His bair and uptilt in 64 are some of his most disjointed moves and best combo starters
I used to train to be the literal best Yoshi during smash 4 but got so burned out with the dlc I broke my controller and never played 4 again. It just wasn't for me
Only disagreement I have is that Yoshi is an All-Rounder, when it's obvious that they're a Rushdown. I mean, they're the fastest in the air, have extremely fast moves, and great ground speed. Yoshi's also so bad at killing at low percents and zoning that claiming they're an All-Rounder makes no sense. Besides that, great video!
Yoshi's worst change by far was the removal of his black alt.
It wouldn't be much of a problem if they didn't switch it out with the Crafted World alt. God, that alt looks awful. Thankfully, mods exist.
You think that’s bad? I’m still waiting for brown Yoshi to return.🦖🤎
Note, I do like his crafted alt skin

Never noticed how many small changes Yoshi has gotten over the years.
Incredibly well researched and very detailed. Excellent video, I’m sure you’ve channel will do well

It's less likely he forgot and more likely that it wasn't important to mention
I love the channel name! Let’s go islanders!!!🤩🤩

Not really a check since Pika's forward air beat yoshi's super armor and parry in neutral.

yoshi is simply not the same after melee. One of the most brutal change to a character overall.
Another awesome video. I love to see it!
Love your videos, keep up the great work!
*Dashiegames would be proud of his homie*
Mah boi Yosh!
The weird thing is in my opinion smash 4 onward yoshi is so different feeling that it feels like one of my favorite characters was deleted
I like Yoshi because, just like Mario, he has the funny move.
Great vid, love the plethora of Wizzy, , aMSa, Suarez, and Yoshidora clips too

I felt awful for Yoshi in Smash 4, he was done dirty
Yoshi's style in ultimate is the best you can't change my mind
Great video as usual!
Keep up the great work tho I wait every month for this stuff and it's only gotten better
I always Loved Yoshi and I Main him in Melee and Brawl (I use the buffed yoshi mod for brawl)
Commenting so the algorithm will give you the attention you deserve
Insert obligatory "And so we ask HOW GOOD WAS YOSHI ACTUALLY?"
You could have waited a day and made us think you were talking about the Yoshi puzzle game
Yoshi=the green goat
I've never liked playing yoshi but I love watching him tbh
Come on people like this vid need more of this type of content
Back with another banger
