Good Friday 2023 - what else to celebrate the event than with Bach. Beautiful beyond words.
going to church
I dedicate this to my mom who left for heaven today... beautiful as she was... she loved Bach...
What a beatiful gift. Mine left four years, ago as well. The doors of heaven would open to our mothers with such chorus beautiful just as they enter the Great Throne of God. May He bless their souls
RIP to your Mum
I like to think we will see our loved again in God's good time.
Completely irrelevant, irrational, and illogical, but I believe it nonetheless
@@ernesthill4017 i don't believe in human's religious inventions.. but i do believe in another dimension of energy where souls live in light of love and peace..

This chorus has always been my favorite from
St. Matthew Passion. So much sorrow and pain,
but the hope is always present...
Lyrics in english:
We sit down with tears
and call to You in the grave:
rest gently, gently rest!
Rest, you exhausted limbs!
- Rest gently, rest well. -
Your grave and headstone
shall, for the anxious conscience,
be a comfortable pillow
and the resting place for the soul.
- rest gently, gently rest!
Highly contented,
there the eyes fall asleep.
can't hear it without falling in tears...
Same here, and I performed it, with tears in my eyes. I'm a bassist. That descending bass line. I was only 17 the first time I participated in the Bach Festival at Baldwin-Wallace College.
How can 32 people dislike such an emaculate masterpiece
Talvez por estarem cantando em outra língua que não a original.

Such beautiful music, sublime.
Most beatiful music in the world by me!
My favorite is the "Erbarme dich" aria!!
Wondering why there were several DISLIKES on this gorgeous presentation?
In a word: BEAUTIFUL!
There are such people in the world I work with one of them She is as nothing to me
If it wasn’t for Mendelssohn no one would ever know of Bach’s brilliance.
Too bad Mendelssohn's father disliked him for being a Christian and told him that he would never be a "real" Christian, that Christians would never accept him and that he should change his name and embrace Judaism because a Jew can only be a Jew. Yet Mendelssohn rose to fame because Christians were his biggest fan base. His father was a real creep and his rants about Christians were utterly vile.
You truly don’t know what you’re talking about
It's Good Friday as I'm listening to this.
I love this.Music the immortal Bach captured the. Spirit of Good Friday, which is today , in this Moving music . Heard it first when I was 16 . Jesus is still with me , his thoughts give me hope every day while I am still here ! In My garden, I always consider the lilies of the field. I am certainly. Not arrayed as one of these ,
A lovely recording from Engelbrekts kyrka in Stockholm. This year Bachs Music gives a further and deeper dimension in Stockholm since the city a few day ago was the target for an evil destructive terrorist. St Matthew Passion was presented in Sweden for the first time in 1936, just at Engelbrekts kyrka. As far as I know David Åhlen was conducting, Waldemar Åhlen at the cembalo and Åke Åhlen conducting the boy´s Choir and finally Oskar Lindberg at the great organ. All four important muscians in Sweden practicing at that time and remembered for ever. But most of all, my honour to Johann Sebastian BACH for giving us so much of ESENCE OF LIFE.
The addition of harpsichord score to this piece cements Bach's imprimatur upon this, one of his most transcendent efforts in choral music...
amazing sound!Bach is the DIVINE!
Now this is how you end such a glorious musical by Bach with immense passion, accents, drama, power and earnestness. I am so grateful to have been given the chance to witness this immaculate production
Thank you, my friend! I'll pass this on to the conductor!
Absolutely beautiful performance...not heavy yet intense and the phrasing's powerfully nuanced. I have the Kings College recording with Stephen Cleobury conducting, which I love...but this is really 'up there' too. Thanks for posting.
Exactly !!!
I like this conductor
Как прекрасни са тези музикални изпълнения за нашият, живият Бог Исус Христос !

You are welcome !
Actually both alphabets are close each other, but the Bulgarian is older.

Never mind !
You right ! Bulgarian alphabet related to the Greek as Greek alphabet related to the Phoenician.
Esta es una gran obra preciosa
Indiscutiblemente que lo es Salvador, Gracias!
A beautiful piece of J.S. Bach music. ❤
Absolutely beautiful. Gabe Meruelo.
Beautiful music, full of meaning.
Fantastic.
I love that the audio captures the stereo effects in the choir. In recent years I have stopped listening to Bach - the beauty and perfection taunts my shoddy musicianship. Good to hear this again
Glorious performance.
I know of any other aria and composition that goes to the root of our shared humanity in a fundamental manner as this composition by, who else, but Bach does.
can't believe i discovered this opera from gangster movie, lmao

Fantastic !!!!!
Beautiful, peaceful...I love it so much
WONDERFUL
Musica assim parece que nos evoca um paraiso que , se existe, podia bem fazer-me sentir tao bem!...
The composition is exquisite. So what’s the rush?

it has something from late Mozark works...or late Mozart works have something from it !:) Grande Maestro, JOHANN SEBASTIAN. Grande discepolo, WOLFGANG AMADEUS.
wasn't my intention to offend anyone :) I love them BOTH. I...Mozart respected Bach's genius and of course learnt from him, just as so many other composers...But I wouldn't say either that WAM was inferior...they are just different. If you understood my comment the right way, you would see that it was a recognition of Bach's influence on late Mozart's works. :)

is it legal to do this in Swedish ?
Bach wrote for the people in their own language. So this is in the spirit of Bach. It’s been performed like this for more than 20 years. :-)

And so what?
Save the Italian masters Palestrina (Missa Papae Marcelli) and Vivaldi (Judhita Triunphans) ... Despite the Venetian style (which Bach did not master in 1727) these cantatas are tedious and may have been copies of Italian opera oratories and Italian recitals translated into the German and attributed to Bach!
