Thanks for watching! Apparently the section I had meant to include about older bootloaders didn't make this edit for some reason. If you're worried, I had the oldest possible bootloader (no number at all) and never had an issue, even while testing experimental firmware. The potential issue only applies to .bin files that are either 0 bytes (which shouldn't happen if the file downloaded correctly) or over 3.5MB (which also shouldn't happen). For what it's worth, my understanding is this bootloader issue is also present with official firmware and is more a concern for devs who will be installing a lot of different test firmwares. You can read more about it here: github.com/SynthstromAudible/DelugeFirmware/wiki/Bootloader-precautions-for-%22numeric%22-Deluge-developers I used the info on that page to update mine and it was very easy.
Related to the delay golden knobs, the upper knob when clicked cycles through Even notes, Triplets and Dotted. I use it all the time to change delay to dotted 😊
First off...thank you so much for showing the New Community Firmware WITH the old screen...a lot of us (who couldn't get in line for the screen-upgrade in time) have been worried. Consider being our "champion" and use a zoomed in camera (with settings that show the old screen in detail/contrast) for us to learn.
Thanks! Glad you found it worthwhile. I'm hoping to do more. There are some amazing new features underway as we speak (performance mode, Mutable reverb, etc.)
Ha. Definitely---I forgot to mention the new sync times available via the menu too (dotted, triplets, etc.). I don't recall seeing them when pressing the gold knob though, so maybe they aren't accessible there
Excellent overview and very clear explanations. The sounds you chose and methodical way you went through the demos really helped me understand these new features. Subscribed and I look forward to seeing more!
Fantastic overview! Ive installed the new firmware but haven’t had a chance to dive in yet. Super cool to see even these quality of life improvements. Cheers!
Of course this update had to drop at the exact same time I added a zoia and Lemondrop to my set up… I was already going down the rabbit hole learning how to use them and now I gotta relearn the Delly too! 😂
such a great upload...........very well presented.........I think you'd be amazed and thrilled if you upgraded to the OLED - such a significant and powerful mod.................................
Thanks! I may do the OLED upgrade someday, but I've always loved the veritable lack of screen (same reason I loved the Circuit for so long). I know I'm in the minority there, at least. Ha
Good for you - work with what you have........For me, it was a massive change to be able to see full preset names, see parameters and values displayed clearly...really elevated my experience on the box.....but we're all different, and have different workflows.....(feel free to stop by my channel if you're interested. I don't believe the morph option is available at the song level at the moment, only on clips (same with filter routing, which is fun to try if you haven't yet, as you can change the order of the filters or even run them in parallel!)
For what it's worth, I just spoke to the dev who added the morph feature and was told it should be possible to add it to the overall song menu at some point

Got my two top choices down to the Deluge and the Roland SP404 Mk 2 (quite a bit different…I know). If you were a newb like me, would you suggest a Deluge?
For what it's worth, I came from a guitar background and it took a while to find a device that fit the workflow I wanted. Personally, I love the Deluge, but started electronic music with a Novation Circuit, so I was already familiar with a screen-less pad-based workflow. I'd say the biggest current draw back is that there isn't an easy way to export individual stem tracks yet, so you either have to do it manually instrument by instrument, or just do the best possible mix on the Deluge and export the stereo mix (which is what I do most of the time).
