I just bought a nice brand new DAC last month from Fosi and even though it has an optical port it's only optical in. I have to connect my Kanto Syd to my DAC with RCA because that's the only option. I can still plug it into my desktop's optical port but that means I'd have to change the audio source in windows every time I want to switch from my headphones to my speakers.
@@psychoacer Why would you want to bypass your nice brand new DAC with a digital output? DAC stands for Digital to Analog Converter, i.e. they make analog sound. There IS a benefit to having the sound feel like it's all coming from the center of your tv: noisy children. It can be a lot easier to hear and follow along with audio from a show or movie when all of the sound is coming from that central point, but there are children running around and playing. I'm a bit annoyed with this modern trend to make everything sound monaural since the advent of bluetooth speakers unless you wear them around your neck
Indeed. Not only the trend to make everything mono, but also the trend to make everything tiny. Granted, there are a lot of shelf speakers that sound great *for their size,* but nothing will compare to my late 90's stereo with giant speakers (I think it's packed away in my basement somewhere). We have a pair of Yu6s. Very attractive for the price really, and sounds good enough.
I feel that for this use case passive speakers with an amplifier hidden on the side or under the desk would be more convenient. Active bookshelf/monitor speakers are common, but I'm not well versed in small amplifiers than can be used with conventional bookshelf (passive) speakers. Are such small amplifiers common?
In this use case, the device connecting is typically right next to the speaker. Your idea just keans the speaker and device both have a cable running off to the amplifier further away, doubling the cables needed.

Thanks for the review. Seems, these speaker(s) is a bargain. In Germany we have similar sound decks, with either much lower quality or much higher price. Could be used as a monitor base for video conferencing.

It's a cool concept but I also get why it doesn't sell all that well and is discontinued. You don't get much stereo image so as a sound bar it's not great. It's also rather high so awkward under a TV in many situation. It's not all that flexible. And you can basically get the same by squashing 2 normal speakers in a box. And with that solution you have the added benefit of being able to take it apart and have wider stereo. I could potentially see this working on the Japanese market or some place where people tend to have smaller houses and maybe less space for a bigger setup? Although even then a soundbar is probably more compact 😅
something like this that is like 2,5 times wider would be really nice as an all in one soundbar and would solve the problem of not having enough stereo separation I guess. It will have all of the same features but just more stereo if you're farther away in a living room or something like that. Good for someone without much space but still want a soundbar with all this options inside. Probably not anything special for me but I know enough people that would like it
Good for testing things, or listening to your favourite Star Trek audio books on DAT. But they could essentially have included just one bass driver for both channels - even at arm's length, there can hardly be any separation.

WOW! I really like that turntable at 0:38 ! Is there a video of it or is that from your "Private Collection"
It’s a Pro-Ject RPM 1 carbon. Nice table though it’s a bit too showy for my tastes.
something like this that is like 2,5 times wider would be really nice as an all in one soundbar and would solve the problem of not having enough stereo separation I guess. It will have all of the same features but just more stereo if you're farther away in a living room or something like that. Good for someone without much space but still want a soundbar with all this options inside. Probably not anything special for me but I know enough people that would like it
Weird that its only sold in the US, when they have a Germany TÜV Symbol on them.
and they're multivoltage
That’s for the Amish, die sind noch einigermaßen Deutsch doch? 😂
It’s easily tucked away in the shed, next to the horse and carriage.😉
The different TÜV companies (but primarly SÜD) have been operating and offering their certification services internationally for some time now.
Nice video 💕
If they don't have a model called the Kanto Earthquake, then it proves that Kanto has taste
6:15 dustiest record I have ever seen played! 😂
The old Crutchfield catalogs from the 80’s were amazing.
Twilight of the Warriors - Appreciative nod.
Much better than Bose speakers!
Good for testing things, or listening to your favourite Star Trek audio books on DAT. But they could essentially have included just one bass driver for both channels - even at arm's length, there can hardly be any separation.
I've got a YU6 + Sub8 setup for my desk. I am pretty happy with them, I think it's probably a pretty good quality setup for the price. Remote is kinda ugly, though.
In the US, when I was a kid (50 years ago), I loved watching Saturday morning cartoons. They are long passed but I get the same anticipation watching Techmoan's Saturday delights.
Plus they aren't repeats of cartoons you've already seen half a dozen times!
Thanks :)
I think that USB port there is to power a bluetooth or other wireless receiver feeding audio directly in one of the inputs.
It's already got BT onboard. The USB can power any device that uses 5V power - in this case up to 1A.
Raaaaaah, a TCD-D100... I'd kill to have one !
I reckon you need to do a video on the Minirig. Best Bluetooth speaker I've ever heard.
shoutout to the blackstar BEAM
Entertaining
I like these speakers but I have a deep and abiding hatred of manufacturers make most of the functions available only via the remote, you lose that cheap 5 dollar piece of plastic and you may as well throw the whole thing away.
My Panasonic TV is like that - NO controls on the TV, everything depends on the remote.
This is why learning remotes are great.
@daviddunmore8415 I have a Panasonic TV too funnily enough
i have one of these and the button controls power, volume and cycles through input channels. it's hooked up to my computer, windows does the volume and it goes to sleep automatically which amazingly convenient
@@tezinho81 I've been using my receiver's remote ever since my Harmony remote stopped working (😥). I use it to turn the TV on, also. But sometimes I forget it's still in "TV" mode and press a button and it does something I don't know how to undo. Thankfully, the back of the TV has all the buttons I need to at least switch the input back to where I need it.
But, it's about 15 years old at this point. Modern TVs...
Another piece of history saved in the nick of time! This Kanto Syd is basically an audio unicorn. Now I’m curious how it handles an epic soundtrack, maybe something from Star Trek. Great find, as always!
Perfect little find!!
Those red speakers are pretty. Good video!
Kinda wish those were available in Europe too. Would be perfect for my parents so they'd get the lp-player back in use. Need to check if one of the re-shippers would keep the cost low enough. Or to ask a friend to see the trouble.
8:04 What movie is that?
Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In
Took a while to find it...
@@youngjunk1919 Thank you.
@@youngjunk1919 Nice. Thanks. 👍
Amazon US has them listed as $169 as well, sold through the Kanto store, so it's not quite exclusive to Crutchfield. I guess these came out in 2018 from the reviews I've googled.
