Thanks so much for uploading this to UA-cam I really love watching the old under 5s (pre-school) programmes which were shown on ITV on a weekday lunchtime they were brilliant.

Thames Television was one of London's best weekday regional franchises which provided great entertainment for the national ITV network and for local viewers around London and the surrounding areas.
This company produced fantastic shows for children including The Sooty Show and Rainbow plus many more favourites they also produced great shows for adults to enjoy in the evenings for example The Bill and This Is Your Life to name just a few.
I am glad that you came across this recording of Thames Television from Autumn 1990 as it is very nostalgic when these were taped I was at preschool age myself but I didn't start watching the ITV preschool shows until 1991.
I believe that whoever taped these preschool shows at the time recorded them for their child or children to watch as soon as they arrived home from their playgroup or nursery school etc and they kept the VHS recordings for many years.
It is a shame that none of these junctions linked into The Riddlers or Allsorts because it would have been fantastic to have seen some older recordings on UA-cam.

Thank you so much for uploading this Neil this is absolutely wonderful!
I love recordings which have kids telly on it and it is really interesting how they switch from the continuity at London's Euston Road Studios into Central's Broad Street studios in Birmingham for Rosie and Jim on Monday 1st October 1990.
I believe that they did that for other programmes as well for example they switched from the continuity at London's Euston Road Studios into wherever the programme was being played out from that day if it was a Thursday for example the Thames Television staff would have switched from the feed at London's Euston Road to Yorkshire Television for The Riddlers simultaneously if it was a Wednesday then it would have been Granada Television in Manchester as they were responsible for playing Allsorts out.
It is a shame that none of the pre school junctions linked into my favourite shows for example The Riddlers or Allsorts as they were my all-time favourites as a child I believe that whoever taped these at the time only wanted to record Rainbow or Rosie and Jim and didn't bother with the other pre school shows.

The first Rainbow episode was called Changes if anyone is interested lol. They were meant to go on a picnic with John in the afternoon after Geoffrey and Bungle had moved some of the furniture around in the house in the morning. Bungle cheekily changes the weight of Geoffrey's shopping bag from heavy to light by taking all the tins out and hiding them on the kitchen chair. This causes Geoffrey to trip over backwards causing much laughter. Geoffrey shows how flour and water gets changed into a paste by mixing both. They mix colours together as well while painting. Eventually, much to Zippy's delight, it's time for Geoffrey to get changed into his walking clothes for the picnic, although Zippy is not happy about the prospect of a long walk before they eat. BUT. It then begins to pour down with rain and they can't go. So they have the picnic indoors and George, Zippy and Bungle are delighted to see Geoffrey can change back into his every day clothes and isn't stuck in his walking clothes.
In the second one, Geoffrey dresses up as an old woman who comes over with parcels for them all. They turn out to be nothing fun, much to Zippy's annoyance and he gladly calls Geoffrey "from the kitchen" and they are all surprised to find it's actually Geoffrey in drag

Initially there were no plans for a second series of Zzzap! The reason Zzzap was created in the first place was to support Meridian as the new ITV broadcaster for the South East of England and to expand both Meridians’ and The Media Merchants’ children’s output - which was by January 1993 limited to 3 programmes (Zzzap, Wizadora and Eye of the Storm). Both Zzzap and Wizadora had proved successful and were recommissioned for new series. Series 2 of Wizadora was broadcast in Autumn - this time on the CITV slot.
The first series of Wizadora was broadcast during the predominately pre-school lunchtime slot (Other programmes sharing the slot included Tots TV and Allsorts. The lunchtime slot was previously used for pre-school Thames/ Ragdoll/ Central programmes such as Rainbow, Playbox, Rosie & Jim and Rod, Jane and Freddy). The slot was frequently not directly linked or mentioned as CITV - and was incorporated into afternoon CITV in September 1993.
That was actually a few months after the out-of-vision continuity service with Steve Ryde began (that had started in February and the preschool shift happened in September).
The presentation and idents for the first twenty minutes was different to the rest of the strand however, and there were four mascots: Abacat (who was a cat who counted on an Abacus, is that the one you remember?), Cheesy, Mr. Clockface and Ruskman, who all remained until Stephen & Danielle came along in 1998.
It was part of a substantial revamp of ITV daytime in Autumn 1993. Families was axed, the preschool programmes were merged into CITV, This Morning gained an extra 10 minutes as a result (the other ten minutes given to regional news) & Supermarket Sweep made it's debut at 9:25.

It must have been odd for kids to go from Rainbow to Home & Away.
I can see why people enjoyed Richard and Judy - it's so cheesy but feels much more genuine than the current This Morning group.

I know that this upload has been on your UA-cam channel since 2016 but I would just like to say thank you for uploading this it is amazing how many views it has got over time but that is the advantage of uploading material which has a nostalgic feel to it.
I believe that whoever recorded this at the time taped them for their children to watch as soon as they arrived home from their early years childcare provider and they kept the VHS recordings for all this time.

I bet everyone was seeing the same programmes wherever they were in the UK but the regional continuity itself would have been very different.

I assume that these were originally recorded for Rainbow or whatever was on at 12.10 pm after This Morning, and for the young child as soon as they get home from nursery school or something. I would love to see off-airs of this time of day from around 1983 ish, where we would get the end of Rainbow or Get Up & Go!, adverts for Bio Tex, Pampers or Domestos, and then link into Play it Again or the Sullivans. Nice that a 1984 clip linking out of Sounds Like a Story and into Border's Look Who's Talking is already on here.
