- Old documentary from the US Army's "Big Picture" Series. Featuring the M-48 Patton Tank. The last of the true "Patton" series tanks, the M-48 became the US Army and Marine Corps "workhorse" in the jungles of Vietnam.
This is an interesting documentary on the M-48 tank during the early stages of the Cold War.
my favorite tank but i was not a tanker, i was in the air force and we had the B-52.

My dad was tank commander on a m48 during Korea wound up in Barstow Cal.
Dang it goes to show all the thought and tedious process of making a new tank. And I'm sure that the process has only gotten longer!

I would have hated to work in the 40s-60s. Have to dress up in almost black tie to go to work with no air conditioning, must have sucked. I'm working on military antenna and satellite dishes in a t shirt and cargo pants.
Sad how the old Packard plant that once built tanks is noting more than a stripped out shell destroyed by vandals and scrappers in that cold test wonder if they had the apu running and the heaters on ?

Their variations would have another 'life' in the IDF. Eager for arms... the new state of Israel would 'paw through' the junk yards of Europe (early 50's) looking for military tanks that could be taken back to Israel, refurbished and re-purposed. Purchase of pre-used tanks was also sought out. In films of the 1967 Six Day War you will see a few of these in use. Finally France (for a while) would become Israel's principle arms supplier. However, many WW II surplus 'goods' would appear again in the hands of the IDF as France handed off its remaining U.S. Lend/Lease 'stuff' to Israel... as well as selling new French arms to them.
