"We search for that piece of ourselves that lies within them." Beauttifully put. I found photos of my mother's grandparents on Ancestry which she had never seen. It was like looking through the looking glass or traveling back in time. You look in their eyes searching for some part of yourself.

Hi there and thank you for reaching out to us. Have you considered taking a DNA test? Our test is a great way of finding biological family as it will match you with any relatives who have also taken our test. DNA testing is becoming increasingly popular; there are currently 20 million people (and counting) in the AncestryDNA database and many of our members have found siblings, parents or cousins with our DNA test. You can message your matches for free which means members are able to collaborate with each other on their shared family history. We will include an article here that explains how you can best find biological family with our service: support.ancestry.com/s/article/Finding-Biological-Family. For an insight into what you could expect from the test, check out the following article: support.ancestry.com/s/article/What-to-Expect-from-AncestryDNA?language=en_US. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Hello Jay! We appreciate your interest in Ancestry and in learning more about your family history. It's true that hiring a professional genealogist is an investment, but most of the services we offer via Ancestry.com are aimed to assist anyone who wishes to conduct his/her own family research. Have you tried to trace your family this way so far? We're always happy to provide guidance and advise on how to get started.
A subscription would give you access to search for information across historical records and databases. You can read more about the subscription service here: support.ancestry.com/s/article/What-to-do-with-an-Ancestry-Membership. We offer subscriptions on different levels, depending on needs, starting from $24.99 for one month. You can find an overview of the prices and plans we offer here: www.ancestry.com/cs/offers/subscribe. We have many research guides on our support-site, with instructions for getting started and search tips. You can find some of these here: support.ancestry.com/s/article/Free-Research-Guides.
Another service we offer is our DNA test, which involves a one time cost. This would give you an overview of your estimated ethnicity (places in the world where your ancestors may have lived) and a list of DNA matches (now living relatives in the AncestryDNA database that match with you). You can read more about AncestryDNA and see some examples of the type of results to expect here: support.ancestry.com/s/article/What-to-Expect-from-AncestryDNA
We hope this information is helpful and wish you much success with any family research!
