Great video Randy! Hands down the most complete Forms 101 video I have seen. So many great time saving tips using built-in features and the techniques for completing a form image in a fillable PDF style is very clever. Can’t wait to see more videos!
It's a long one for sure, but it has pretty much everything in it plus a whole lot more. Table of contents is a big help if you need to reference any point in it later.
Wow …that was 2 hours 37 minutes dramatic movie with some many cool tips and tricks. You showed one of the most vital concepts specifically Default, Update, Unsaved, Valid, Updates, Lastsubmit etc. Overlay the image and data from another screen is one the best techniques that I have ever seen. Using different persons with different expressions made the video so impactful. I have some queries 1. If the form has unbound fields that you shared on Patch Unbound dropdown field at 2:27:20, can we use VALID property of some unbound fields MUST be filled in by the user before form has to be submit. 2. One of the part of video collections has overhead and used Table function instead. Do we have PowerApps performance if we use table function?
So glad you enjoyed it! It's full of a lot of information for sure. On your questions: 1. Actually, the W4Year that is patched in at 2:27:20 is only really patching the default record of the form. The field "W4Year" is still a field of the form and would still be able to participate in the Valid property of the form. Keep in mind though that Valid really only checks required fields and any min max or length values. Not much more than that. If you have needs to make sure that, for example, W4Year was not less than 2020, then "side validation" would be needed. 2. Collections have overhead because they have the "plumbing" to allow adding and removing rows. Tables are less overhead because they don't bring this functionality to the app. Collections should really only be used when you specifically need add/remove row capability. Stay tuned as I am planning more videos and one specifically on "From DataSource to With - Variables explained in PowerApps" (at least that's the current title)
@@randyhayes891 thanks for sharing valuable information. A lot a people use COLLECTION in their UA-cam videos but barely talk about TABLE function which you have explained so beautifully. eagerly waiting for your new videos.
Yes, unfortunately most examples and videos, everyone uses collections. They are WAY overused and it's unfortunate because people learning this Platform think they are necessary and just add more complexity to an app.
Thanks for the video Randy. May I have one question? I need to add a grid gallery (excel like grid) at the middle of the form, we got few of those requests, seems quite common cases. The gallery needs to point to a different Dataverse table as the main form datasource, in this case, how I can fit the gallery inside the middle of the form? I tried to add the gallery inside a datacard, for SharePoint DataSource it works, but for Dataverse DataSource, the gallery is not able to visible. not sure if I did anything wrong for datacard does not support Dataverse gallery when it has different DataSource as the form. Can you please give some suggestions for how to fit a gallery inside a form? Thanks!
Hi Randy, is there a way to the same form edit/view with a pen input? I'm trying to add a signature line, and the signature should show up for each different form.
If I have a field that is a hyperlink, and that hyperlink changes depending on the gallery item you select, how would I get the hyperlink to actually work (I am using your Super Forms section of the video)
Thank you for sharing this useful information even in 2023.

Thank you very much for this great video on creating powerapp

How would you create a PDF of the W4 with the completed fields and send via email from the app?
