Going back to Batman & Robin. Stop me if you’ve heard the story before, the WB execs LOVED the movie and greenlit Batman Triumphant based on their private screening.
They had a good run of quality animation series followed by some quality animated films. The DCAMU series of films(started with Justice League War and ended with Justice League Dark Apokolips War) was pretty good and should have been what the live action films should have been.
WB really has been fucking up for decades. Even the idea for Batman V Superman has been knocking around the WB board since the early 90s. I'm pretty sure everyone who got within spitting distance of A DC movie probably had the studio execs banging down their door to do that. Zazlov just exacerbated their shittyness.
It has been something to just watch AAA games self cannibalize and for no reason other than greed. They can be swimming the money that they want but that requires artistic direction, resources, and actually delivering what consumers want. Its their own fault they fail and I pity them.
I mean Ubi made a step forward with Mirage. Was fun Avatar also was incredibly fun and the best fry cry game. Prince of Persia also is arguably one of the best metroidvanias ever made. It is just a thrill to play through. Some AAA companies like Ubi have recently been giving more freedom to devs and their creatives. They also do deliver fun games. I'm not excusing their MTX model. It's awful tbh. And I say that as a life long AC fan and those MTX are probably the worst in all of Ubi games. But they still make good fun games. However seems like indies and AA been stepping up their game recently and are now directly competing with AAA games. I love it
this is it, they just don't want to put in the work, or should I say pay people to put in the creative work it takes to make a good game without all the monetization BS that turns gamers off, they don't even want to put out polished or finished games anymore.....the standards have gone to hell
The only thing I can hope for is that their live service games fail continuously to were they give up on it. There are a number of live service games shutting down a few months after release due to poor performance. Larian Studios has already shown that with an amazing game you don't need to monetize every small thing. But, then again, WB is chock full of executive morons that don't want to acknowledge that or follow that model. This also has me terrified for Star Trek as HBO/WB is in talks of buying Paramount. I really don't want to see Star Trek get canned just for a crap tax write off.
Nothing kills a franchise faster than a corporate boardroom. Back in the day Microsoft took over Halo for Bungie and this happened. The people at Microsoft Created video games, mobile games, comics, books. They spread Halo so thin that the franchise is not relevant anymore.
David Zaslav thinks this is the future of Warner Bros. Then this future sucks because his decition making has lead to nothing but trouble. I don't think merging Paramount Global would save a company that was already being run by someone who doesn't have a fucking clue about what he is doing to the company and sees them as improvements.
My brother you're giving too much credit, These guy's single braincell could probably come up with ONE word at any particular moment. This still look like a cohesive sentence.
Warner Bros. for quite some time, has seemed to me to act like a chicken running with it's head cut off. Occasionally someone inside the company might do something right, but the company clearly has no idea what it is doing.

Yeah, it's fine if they want to do Batman dying as part of the story but its really poor taste to release this as Conroy's final performance in an iconic role. They should have recast after he passed.
It being Conroy's last (potentially) complete performance doesn't help, but the fact that this is a continuation of an extremely well-loved Arkham story, with the Batman from those games we all played as across a great trilogy of games, and that Batman dies, yes fine, but there's ways to do that. It's the manner in which he dies, the things he's doing in the game, and the deaths of other characters from the Arkham universe that just seems so careless, self-consciously edgy and subversive in a tired and thoughtless way... that is just as damaging. To me, it retroactively de-values the Arkham games and the characters we encounter in those games, and that Batman's legacy. I can't imagine future installments of other franchises doing something so careless like this to characters like Nathan Drake, or Ezio, or Kratos, or Geralt of Rivia. It just baffles me that they'd be this reckless and careless with such an important character. That, and obviously if there are future games that retcon or undo these points, Conroy won't be around to participate, so they'll have less credibility in fans' eyes. Plus... this game. An evil Superman. Batman's dead. Gang of baddie misfits save the day. These are all exhausted tropes that haven't been fresh or even interesting in a decade. They did all this for THIS mediocre, uninspired game. It's just such a waste.

To play Devil’s advocate, I think the concept of tying in games with the DCU won’t involve lining up the games with the timeline of the movies/shows because that would be impossible. My thought is that these aren’t movie tie-in games, they’re side stories that connect to the broader universe. The DCU could be five to six years in and they release a Superman game that explores the gap between the first and second Superman movies or that fills out his origins within this universe. James Gunn did say that not all DC videogames will be part of the DCU. Just like how the Matt Reevese Batman franchise, the Joker movies and certain animated series aren't part of the DCU. The DCU will include movies, shows, animation and videogames, but there will also be movies, (animated) shows and videogames that won't be part of the DCU. They will fall under the Elseworlds banner. I've always thought it unfair how much hate Shadow of War got. Yes, it had loot boxes but you could buy them with currency you could earn in game, and unlike many other games the currency was really easy to get. By the time they removed the store from the game I had around 100 orcs in my garrison that I never paid a penny for and most of them were pretty good. Nothing was locked behind these crates or any sort of pay wall. Everything in them could be earned in game. So the RL money option was just there for lazy people with more money than sense, and it wasn't even a multiplayer game so who cares if someone wanted to blow their money on it?
Frankly, there's not *enough* psychology behind this soulless plan - they're not taking into account what happens when gaming audiences are so nakedly condescended to. We'll take being pandered to and still shell out bucks - but being played *up* to and being played *down* to feel real different. And if what gets churned out according to this new formula is as riskless and inoffensive as it is calculated and bankrupt of creative vision, it'll still make money - the formulae, after all, are calculated from real data - but it will also draw derision - and, ultimately, apathy.
I’m honestly baffled at how out of touch Warner bros is with their audience, how does Warner bros think that this is the right call for games when Spider man 2 received critical praise, I don’t care if that game didn’t win any awards, Ghost of Tsushima didn’t win any awards and that game is fucking awesome, the game awards are honestly a joke like the Oscar’s. Warner bros are you forgetting that Spider man 2 as of now has sold 10 million units and that was three months after the games release, or hell look at hogwarts legacy a game under your name WB, it’s a single player game and it sold $850 million dollars, it’s beyond frustrating.
I hope it does average to good, (which is still a fail in companies eyes.), but no one goes for the skins/battlepasses. It sucks to see the effort the team put into it, and to get stomped because of cooperate greed.
Exactly how I felt. The next Rocksteady game was so highly anticipated and anyone with even the slightest idea of game development knows what we’re getting is a bastardized version of Rocksteady’s original vision. Unfortunately you can expect every single game under WBD’s umbrella to all have live service/microtransactions/battle pass mechanics that will severely hamper the gameplay. FIGHTING GAME OF THE YEAR was taken offline for rework less than a half a year later. Remember Multiversus?
It has to fail miserably. 100+ million dollar loss style of flop. That's the only way WB will reconsider their live service push. Rocksteady will be fine and will likely be allowed to go back to what they're known for in order to make money again. Do not buy Suicide Squad, do not give WB a dime. The game will be free to play soon enough if you're really dying to play it. Just wait until then.
Suicide Squad flopped so I wouldn't be shocked to see WB just exit game development. I could see them attempting to sell off Rocksteady, Avalanche, Montreal, NetherRealms, TT Games, and Monolith to like Microsoft or Sony or someone. And then just doing the "Marvel Games" or "LucasArts Games" thing where they just license out their IP to developers they see as most fit. Maybe Hogwarts Legacy 2 follows Avalanche wherever they go
The gaming companies that care about the art form of video games are doing well. Everyone else wants that GTA money, but do not understand how GTA actually makes money and why. Most CEO do not know that GTA started as a free to play. WB we know you have no clue what to do with DC, it is obvious by you removing Henry Cavill as Superman. But going through with Ezra Miller Flash, lol yall actually made that movie. Now that should of been a tax write off.
I'm surprised that Hideo Kojima's initiative to blend movies and gaming hasn't entered into the conversation. Is he going to be the one to do it right because he's a gamer and not a boardroom stooge?
Warner bros is a bit of a disaster of an organization generally at this point and Netflix 100% has games as part of its services, just as something they said people don’t want and isn’t doing. Also the development time for these things are so different, tv shows can be months, movies a couple years, and at this point games are 6 years of development (which personally is still insane to me), so how the heck could you incorporate these things in any relevant way
The age of video games will die if these companies wanna keep getting worse and worse about monetization and it's getting worse and will continue to where there's just no point anymore in buying games that just want more and more money to be spent to get more out of a game
Man this sucks they were one of the few studios that didn't make broken games.. man the gaming industry is DOA at this point everything comes out broken and they break perfectly fine games that didn't have glaring issue's when they remake them because all they care about is money now, the future of the industry is gonna be indie games if the big companies don't smarten up an alot of people don't like to play Indie games because you don know if your gonna get a gem or lump of coal but than than again nowadays it's not any different from buying games from the bigger companies except for the fact they'll be broken on release
greed, as long as there are people who will pay and make them money through these live services it makes lots quickly for them then after they can apolagise and try the next thing, you just have to be savy and not waste your money and let those who pay for it to get on with it, im old enough to see it before with so many games and avoid them, it also helps not to get hyoed or buy it straight away before reviews or even to play years later when discounted but some people cant get over fomo.
Mortal Kombat is still a very good game (microtransactional skins aside). The gameplay, story, and quality alone set it apart. Don’t lump it in with failures like the Kill the Justice League game
I'll never understand how you can hire a CEO who doesn't give a f*ck about characters or story and just wants to squeeze out as much money as possible and then I realize again that the old farts who hire him think exactly the same way.
This isn't just a gaming problem, one of the things that continue to make DC's comics so damn good is how many varying stories there are like for Batman I know in 2023 there were stories focused around Bruce as Batman, then Luke Fox as Batman, then Damian taking up the mantle of Batman all happening at once and if DC in general needs to be unified now then all these ideas go down the drain until the silver screen Bruce Wayne passes the torch to probably the movie version of Nightwing, and it takes away a lot of the agency and growth these characters have had as most people going into a movie, won't know or care about the intricacies of the characters and what they're doing in comics, or even what games about them have been made. A great example of this is also from the Batman mythos but Clayface for a good while he had a sorta redemption arc even becoming a Bat family ally, and then around the time of Gotham Knights his story is turned back to him being a murderous villain again which just hurt his overall character growth as he was effectively reset for a status quo that in all honesty didn't even know he had reformed.
yeah, i won't be buying it...the way entertainment in general is going? i have zero interest...thankfully i have a large collection of videogames, dvd's and blu rays because nothing coming out recently seems even remotely entertaining.
I love that Scott is still the same man he's always been. Ewan and Josh were both just nerds that were passionate and now they both think they're characters portrayed by Jess Eisenberg. That doesn't make you guys better. You both come across quite pretentious.
Personally, eff James Gunn. Did Henry Cavill and the people like me who were excited for MoS2 soooo unnecessarily dirty. And David Zaslav is the epitome of what's wrong with the games industry. Execs who look at the money and literally nothing else.
Corporate Greed, it ruins things and makes them less money in the end. They should wake up. suicide Squad is a terrible game. I hope players save their time & money and avoid this one. IF they want a great superhero game check out the older Batman Arkham series. All 3 are masterpieces. Or new spiderman game maybe. But warning avoid Suicide Squad it’s terrible. Glorifying villains has been happening too frequently in today’s society. They either glorify, redeem or “show maybe the villain actually had a point because they were a minority and victim of colonialists, the colonizers are the real evil”. Thats been a new trend. Attacking Batman and saying he causes more harm than good. Anyway thats just annoying point. The real issue for me with this game is a studio that makes great single player games being forced to make multiplayer live services battle pass turd. I will not be supporting that.
Stop trying to milk your audience and just make great games that stand on their own. Look at the Arkham verse admiration and the money it made, and then look at what they make with SS KTJL down the road.
Games are already dying they didn't give avengers a chance when it was the prototype for a plethora of marvel games spiderman 2 was mediocre the characters felt less powerful but the wing suit is my favorite part and god of war ragnorok was garbage in my opinion besides the dlc I'd rather go back and play gow 2018 and I platinumed that one the new one is boring and empty
They just have a different opinion than you, dude… do you always resort to name calling those who hold a different perspective, even on something as mundane as games?

Warner Bros have been a breeding ground for corporate wokesters! 😮
😂😂 just cuz you don’t like their games doesn’t mean that they are falling apart.
They did worst than joel death...
That’s an accomplishment more than anything
Shouldn't have combined with discovery
Not like they had a choice. It was more of a purchase than a merger.
Maybe Hogwarts Legacy 2 follows Avalanche wherever they go
Mortal Kombat 11 is a great video game of leveling and more variety in konquest and the krypt
Theres so much disconnect up there in WB. Just fumbling
Greedy publishers will be the downfall of the gaming industry.
Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game
11:18 that is a great point and historically movie licensed games rarely does well.
Next, they'll be making pachinko machines
Warner brothers, almost as big of a disaster as Ewan's Barnet.
Mortal Kombat is still a very good game (microtransactional skins aside). The gameplay, story, and quality alone set it apart. Don’t lump it in with failures like the Kill the Justice League game
Give me a mass effect series! Please please
Releasing at 7 just as the review embargo was meant to lift?
I will never buy anything affiliated with wb
I'll never understand how you can hire a CEO who doesn't give a f*ck about characters or story and just wants to squeeze out as much money as possible and then I realize again that the old farts who hire him think exactly the same way.
I still love mk1. Its over-priced microtransaction are annoying but i still have fun with it.
The batman forever box 🤣
The more time passes the more I want to step away from commercial 'entertainment' and enjoy the real pleasures in life.
Warner Bros will probably get Gamemill to 💩 out their games 😅
I dont think yall have a good idea of what those DCU games are going to be.
I love that Scott is still the same man he's always been. Ewan and Josh were both just nerds that were passionate and now they both think they're characters portrayed by Jess Eisenberg. That doesn't make you guys better. You both come across quite pretentious.
Hogwarts? MK1? I think they are doing just fine.
Wanner Bros: Man those single player games did so well. We should double down and focus on Live Service games.🤪

Nintendo will always be the winner in the fall of the gaming industry
This is all your fault for crapping on Arkham knight. You guys played a part in this mess.
This will be mistake for WB movement now lost trust in them.
And furthermore, they need to fix that Mad Max trophy that is unobtainable since they killed the servers.
I think it's a cancer now. A plug a fucking jok now I'll just deal with destiny 1 and 2 and no man's sky.
can't wait to go to Ewans poerty slam, the damn beatnik!
Big corpos...
Ewans hair dresser needs to be sacked lmao
Personally suicide squad is likely my last wb game
I would ask for a refund, its really not worth your time.
@EchoDoctrine haven't bought it yet. I'm going to get it end of the year for hella cheap
hmm you guys are sounding like angery joe only seeing the bad can you even see good sides or are you boomers now.
They just have a different opinion than you, dude… do you always resort to name calling those who hold a different perspective, even on something as mundane as games?
First

And this is why people prefer spend their money elsewhere.
Nice to see Frodo being a voice for all the gamers in the Shire
