We grew up with a serial killer on the loose. Gary Ridgeway . Also an elderly neighbor was beaten to death in the yard next door by a homeless man he befriended and tried to help. My grandma had to testify at the trial . Harlan Henry Hahn was the homeless mans name. Our neighbor Elmer Commet was 84 when it happened.

If there was ever a town anyone would never expect a serial killer being from this would be one of them what a true coward this guy was to take the lives of those innocent unsuspecting women this was definitely one of the more interesting videos of date !

The second generation, daughter of original family member, Ezra Carter, was father to June Carter, later June Carter Cash, 2nd wife of Johnny Cash.
What a beautiful little village!! That area seems rife for outdoor businesses such as fly fishing, rafting/tubing, and such. Those types of businesses would spawn other businesses such as places to stay.....B&B's, etc....and restaurants/supply/grocery stores. That said... ironically if I was a local, I would strongly resist such things! lol

*It's crazy knowing just how many are among us that have no issues at all ending others lives and just moving on like no ones business. In my 60s I can't say I have never been hurt, used n abused kick around n bruised, stolen from but I thank the lord I never let hate n rage lead me into the pit of darkness where being sorry won't change our future* I'm gonna research this story more, Thanks for sharing

Interesting. We may be distantly related. I'm a Smith whose ancestors come from Mendota, but who moved to Indiana in the early 1900's. I was just tracing my family tree, and found that my ancestors settled in Mendota in the late 1700's, after immigrating from Scotland, with the first one appearing to be born in 1798, which would have been just after the area was officially settled. They apparently worked in the coal mines. My earliest named relative appears to be William Smith, but no information exists on him, but his son< Samuel Smith, who married Rachel Stinson Smith was noted to be in Mendota. There appears to have been another Smith lineage there, around that same time, and that other line may, or may not be siblings or cousins, as it was fairly common for entire families to move and start a new life in America.
Yeah I was related to him he buried one in the garden my uncle killed himself after finding the girl he was a complete sicko and hunted them like a game he tried hiding one in buried her after she wasn't buried deep enough and tried covering it up bye putting her in river he was kin bye marriage but he said he killed more and would tell them he was going to let them go and then hunted them like deer 😢 I feel so bad for the girls and family it torey uncle up so bad he shot his self so sad prayers to family

Watched on tv......never would consider Mendota a village or a downtown. You need to visit the Mendota store and museum. Enjoy your videos.

Texas Jack Vermillion is buried right there in Mendota on the hill behind the church there next to the Post Office.
I planned on doing a story about him this summer. I had no idea he was buried there though.

The biggest inpatient mental health facility my state is called Mendota. Unique name for a town or place. Didn't think I'd hear that anywhere else.
