Lee Comeaux C-Motion brought me to RBImGuy and finally to this channel. After all these years of wasted lessons, money, time, energy etc....you sir have explained the key to golf. Anyone wanting to learn golf should watch this video....THIS is the HOLY GRAIL! THANK YOU Michael.
Michael, you are a genius. You are the first person that I know of to swing the club just as I do. My son thinks I'm crazy. My golf partners think I'm crazy because I hold the club and hit the ball just as you do and it goes straight and true. I wish I had figured it out when I was young when I had club head speed. But, your method (our method) is spot on. I also use maximum jumbo grips because it is easier for me to grip the club with the forearm up and palm up. I buy only one new box of balls a year and I don't use (or lose) half of them. This method is very much like the one that was used by the Canadian golfer Moe Norman. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and validating this method.
UR right about this. Ever since I learned this concept from Kirk Junge, and keep my right elbow close to my hip, as you suggest here, I've never hit the ball straighter more consistently. And, it's really so simple. Like you said, I don't swing hard any more and I haven't lost any distance. My mantra: swing smarter, not harder. Thx for the tip.
I went to a golf school and that grip was what I had and I was told to change it...to more on top. It's been a struggle...not natural and certainly not good results. This grip works for me. I am reviewing all your videos. Keep them coming!
Was finally able to get out and really practice today. Been awhile since I've had no pain...hell, months. Was awesome!!! There was an older gentleman there, really nice guy and we were chatting a bit. He was just getting back into hitting after recovering from a car accident. He mentioned how simple my swing looked, like I was barely moving but was slamming it. I said that I was just working on a new release that I learned. I showed him what I was doing, then demonstrated with a driver just how little you have to move in order to hit it a good distance. Didnt even take it half way back, just did a little wrist flick and sent it out to about 230, possibly 240. His mind was blown. Starting with the very first swing he started making better contact. Simply amazing. I explained to him about you and how I've been following you for some time and it wasnt until this video that I really got it. Hopefully he swings by here. Enjoyed his company. I did not have to show him anything else. Just how the release worked and WHY it worked. Its just so freaking simple. Also, as a side note, was able to figure out why I was pushing right, and I was pushing, nothing to do with alignment. Once in awhile I was throwing my right shoulder, (for lack of a better term). Was not allowing my release to happen= push right. Easy fix with very little practice. Good stuff man. Good stuff!
I've been teaching this grip for years with fantastic results. When a student comes back because they're struggling that's the first thing I look at and 9/10 times they went back to their "old" grip and whala all fixed.
One more thing that is a huge observation for me: if my right hand grip and release is correct, I am able to pressure the shaft just off the first knuckle of the inside of my right pointer finger prior and well passed impact. When I'm sloppy, too quick, etc. - there is either no pressure or lost pressure on that point.
I'm actually trying to get rid of that pressure from the get go. Cant do it, but that seems to be my overwhelming goal. I know that it's probably sequential in reality, but feel wise I'm starting both the straightening of the elbow and that awesome "new" release at the same time. I'm freaking loving this.
Dude. You have just put out the holy grail in a way that is fully understandable....even by me. Effin incredible results with how little I'm able to practice. (been a rough year physically, stupid shoulder). This IS the most important one you have put out to date. As always, thank you man. You are awesome!!!
Lol. Whats up Slayer:) Never left, just been a really.......naw....would normally say interesting.....its just been an f'ed up year. Still watch all Mikes videos though.
More Norman perfected this move/ theory ,longer clubs, heavy weighted and watched him hit ball after ball straight as an arrow, all related to the swing of the hammer
@Michael Broderick - One observation I might add to an excellent video that may help those who are converting from a "traditional" swing. Please note how this swing is NOT "wide" on the back swing. Traditional has a giant turn and the arms moving well away from the body going back. That move is detrimental to power, timing, and your balance. Traditional is wasted motion. You will also be able to hit crisp, high spinning and straight shots with the right hand only if your grip is correct.
Ho michael, I never understood how Lee’s description of the club going under the ball creates more compression. Photos that I have seen show descending turning down. What do you think?
yoh michael! i finally got to the range and couldn't get home fast enuff to drop you a line. it all worked just like you said, i just got a good grip, used your setup advice and just thought about the right arm and elbow move and from the getgo i just started hitting these beautiful little draw shots with every club. your'e really on to something here. it was 20 out and the junky range balls a bit frozen but i couldn't believe my good fortune. i could of broken 80 if it was for real, can't wait for spring. thnx so much, it feels like the swing i won't have to think about, yikes!!!
Thanks so much for this. Just started looking at Lee's grip recently. This video helps me understand what hands as well as arms are doing. A big piece of the puzzle for me. Hope you're staying warm (if you're in Chicago right now)!
peter mies yes and frees under your armpits so the arms swing properly. Most people jam themselves and don't use the 40 lbs of weight and gravity available to them.
What I don't get with this drill is it still looks like your palm would be facing up at impact, would love to see you use a club and show us where your palm is looking at impact when you do that hammer move at end
Hi Mike, so the elbow goes in and out and not up down? I think I’m getting the move. I find I’m not taking divots with this move when practicing on the mat
Michael. I haven’t quite hit the I found it moment, but I’m working on it. I have changed to the ten finger grip and even have my right forearm up and my hand more under the club. The swing is becoming more comfortable with my driver although my irons are taking longer to get more comfortable. I feel like my balls are going straighter even though I haven’t been on a monitor or outside to a range. I’ve tried turning of the wrist you show in this video and it feels like I’m closing/ shutting down the club face. Is this the feeling you should have or am I doing something wrong.
michael broderick still searching for my ah hah moment. Once you set up to the ball how much of a hip turn and shoulder turn do you take on your full swings?
Just a quick question another video you did then and I certainly enjoy all of this but another one you did you were saying to put the thumbs on the side like you're holding a board and then just bring it up this is completely different I'm I missing something
phone shack that board and the thumb drill is a Lee Comeaux old video in his garage. I don't think it exists anymore and yes it is slightly different. Lee and I actually don't release quite then same. He is stiff wristed as if welded at his wrists. I hammer, slap, throw, axe, whatever you want to call it. I just teach cmotion now so I would use the release you are referring to with the board. I still show students that thumb on the side trick. It controls the top of the shaft and you'll hit bullet compressed straight shots. I personally am longer using more wrists and hands but still straight. All of the second half of last year I used Lee's hand action. I know it's controlled for sure but I'm definitely not longer when I use that. My whole goal this past summer was to score and get better for some tournaments. I'll start off next spring with the same goal and same motions I ended the year on.
@@bladnasternaster8607 That seems to be my favorite method to hit it lower. What I really like about that method is that I have no trouble repeating it.
If you had to drive a nail as hard as you could with a hammer, would you use the unnatural golf grip as taught today or would you grab the hammer the way it was designed to be used and smash that nail with as much force as your body would allow? A hammer is a tool and a golf club is....A HAMMER. The ball is the nail. Try grabbing the hammer the same way you were taught to hold a golf club and you'll immediately figure out why the game is so hard. In order to hit the nail, you have to rotate your right hand so that all power is lost. This method, in this video, works fabulously. You'll feel like you have more power than you've ever had and the ball will fly further and go straighter. Go grab a hammer and do what Michael is doing so you can see for yourself how effective this method really is. Great video, Michael.
I'm not sure if you have a predominant feeling that really gives you a thrill in the swing, but for me, I'll tell you, the "sliding your knockers under the ball" is like nirvana. Its kind of all I seek in the swing. Its like a drug for crying out loud.
I see when you do this move it seems like your left wrist is collapsing after impact, and the right hand is overtaking the left causing a chicken wing. When I do it, it’s putting a lot of pressure on the outside of my left wrist and causing pain. Wouldn’t the right hand have to release at some point without snapping the left wrist.
If you have pain stop. Too ways to stop it. Turn the torso more and the chicken goes away. Second check that grip. Make sure hands oppose. You can also firmnthe left wrist a bit
Thank you for this detailed explanation. To get the club underneath the ball, are you trying to hit ball first or ground first before the ball at impact (if ground first, how many inches before impact?)?
Thank you, how about shaft angle at impact for say a 7 iron, to get more under the equator of the bAll are you trying to get less shaft angle at impact?
Luis Juarez Ahhh good question! It would depend on what shot you are trying to make! Low more in front and more lean. Closer to ball target side less lean higher. You dictate the low point. You also can adjust your sternum alignment which I discussed in a recent video. When you practice change these parameters and observe the effects. Learn. There is no perfect swing. Learn to dictate with your hand and eye coordination how to spin that ball and the effects it has. That sounds basic but it's how I got better at it. Hit and observe. Control my low point and my spin. Learn one body movement and adjust to a ball position. I learned you can point a stick to the same spot every time. We all can. When you realize the club is simply a stick and ignore the flap on the end it makes hitting the ball much simpler. If you notice I never put that hammer nor the clubhead directly behind the ball. That ball could have been anywhere and I could hit it well. I would have pointed the heavy tipped stick to a spot catching the ball then to its low point. It's a very different way of looking at a swing. Most people freak when I ask them to do it. They focus on a ball. I don't even see a ball. That flap...the clubhead is a tool designed to close. So I don't worry about it other than getting my setup right so I control the rate of closure of my forearms. Forearm up palm up does that. So I took all of the variables out before I ever lift the club. I point right then left of my saggital. I point the stick. The ball just gets in the way. It's a blur at best.... I reach out to hit it because all of brains are that good. There's no need to sole it behind the ball if you understand what you are trying to achieve.
Thank you Michael, just wanted to clarify because I was practicing trying to get the club face to the ball before the shaft got to 90 degrees vertical where the ball position was for a stock 7 iron shot. So when you say point the stick to a certain spot, are you referring to where the stick will point towards the ground where you want impact to begin?
Hope this is still open for comments. I’ve seen this hammer concept before and it makes sense but doesn’t work for me. Just big pushes and slices. Maybe the left hand shouldn’t also turn right to hammer position for right handed golfer? I think this was a Jerry Heard concept. Let me know . Thanks
Michael, do we have the forearm and palm up throughout the backswing and downswing to the ball. Also are we firing the arm out or down behind the right foot as we turn
Eureka!!!!!!! Michael this is Randy!!!! I never until know knew that is what Cmotion was!!!!!! Going to golf Course now and will report back!!!!! Man that explaination might be the best on the internet of cmotion !!!! Randy
Michael. I'm a baseball hitting instructor. I have been noticing a lot of links between the baseball swing and golf swing (less effort, efficient mechanics, maximum results). You ought to take a swing at cracking the baseball swing code (the key is backspin). Quick question. I noticed you using a model of a tennis player in a previous video. You equated it to throwing a ball as well. Who makes those models? Fantastic videos and great explanation. Thank you!
This is awesome! Is this a "horizontal" hinge? I have tried to solve this for a while. I hinge on more of an angle and could never make sense of the horizontal.
Is this a functional swing or more for distance? What is your handicap? How many fairways/greens do you hit? Do you swing this way with wedges? Being able to hit a 7 iron 210 is an accomplishment for sure but can you work the ball this way? Can you hit it high/low/fades/draws/spins etc? Or is it more for speed?
I'm scratch currently and can move a ball when necessary. My game has to be based in GIR as I'm not the best putter but improving. I am very good at chipping as well. I use Paul Runyans methods. I am also a straight driver which really helps. I worked hard several years ago to develop a game that worked for me. I found it helps others as well who either have back issues or are getting older and less flexible. I personally spend practice hitting from 130 to 40 yds. It was at one time a weakness. Not now.
@@michaelbroderick awesome..thanks for the reply. My journey has taken me to a similar place with a very different technique(I have been working away at this for about 6 years). I am still ironing out the kinks but look forward to sharing some of my discoveries in the future(I believe I am narrowing down Moe Norman's accuracy..its Mostly with regards to the right wrist and not all the other stuff). Putting gets much easier if you think of slowing the top of the grip vs speeding the head up. Locke's technique seems to do that with a little extra as well. Ive already subscribed and look forward to seeing more. Thank you...
@@michaelbroderick interesting. Is the right wrist "uncocking" (radial/ulnar)or rotating(pronation/supination)? Or UNHINGING? (Extension/flexion) or some sort of combination? I primarily hinge/unhinge. Sorry for the technical nonsense. Just trying to see what is different. Is the palm facing up just before impact? Is it rolling? Or is the Forearm facing up and the right palm is squaring it? Also if the palm is controlling the face wouldn't that be more of pulls/pushes/holds than true draws or fades?
@@jacobr4558 forearm faces up. Rt arm extension will produce slight forearm roll. You of course can roll it more and then you'll see the draw. Push slap is the apt description. I have a video out in a couple of weeks explaining the arm motion another way and exactly how it moves.
hi michael after watching this vid last night and today i went to my local park where there are some cricket nets, im able to hit balls into them safely, i tried that forearm/wrist move and was quite shocked at the power that seemed to be released, i also was using the 10 finger grip for the first time and found that a 'release' seemed more natural, even with the very short movement that you describe the ball pinged off the club face!! ive been looking for something 'new' in the golf swing and i think i must delve deeper into your method which i think if im correct is based on C motion by Lee Comeaux? could you recommend an initial beginners vid or series of vids? Cheers
Michael.......... would you say that the right hand grip under the club feels as strong as possible under the club? Or somewhere in between? Strong meaning turned right as opposed to turned left and on top of the club.
michael broderick you are really outdoing yourself now. I thought that I was hitting 5th gear with cmotion lately until watching this video, now I'm realizing I was stuck in third. I was strong with my right hand before but not near as strong as you are advocating here. I instead was half as strong and compensating by wrist bend. Played today with the right hand more under the shaft and did not allow any wrist bend. The quality of strike and the distance is unbelievable even compared to how I've been hitting it lately. Honestly I didn't score very well, but that's because the ball was going so far and some instances of inconsistency with doing something new. Im going to have to rethink how I play this game. I was level to the front fringe of a 345 yard par 4 that was playing into the wind (not quite a one club wind but close). Had 50 yards left on 391 yard par 4. Overall the ball was going very far and very straight, to the point that I'm not sure what my yardages are anymore and holes that use to be driver holes aren't, etc. Very good problems to have!
michael broderick couple questions ...... you often say that you just fold up the right arm, you also say that you turn while folding up. Do you feel a timing to this? Turn first and fold, fold first and turn or literally a simultaneous fold and turn exactly together?
Jay Scott yes Jay you now have to learn not just control but the game. It's why I rarely use a Driver unless I have a big advantage. Lee and I flick the ball around to get numbers we want. The pro's do the same. Keep at it Jay it's real.
The face determines spin. Open or close it at address to match your intention. You can also pronate or supinate forearms and each the same thing but that requires timing.
Hey, Michael. I have some real issues with the blade staying open through impact and hitting thin cuts 20* or more off line. This is a heartbreaking result especially when it pops up as you are attempting to gain some level of confidence. My question: is there a rotation of the left arm counter-clockwise through impact to help mitigate that devastating result? One more thing, I only have this issue when my swing gets above the waist (back swing). Anything smaller I'm deadly and can do anything I want with the ball. Cheers.
Progressive Slayer send me a video of your swing. Sideview or on 45s even better behind or in front even better. I'll also put out a video on how to use a board to mimic the swing soon.
Thank you for the reply. I was just taking some swings and watching one of Lee's old videos. I think I might just be completely without structure on my left arm. I am concentrating so much on the right handed hit, that my left may very well be collapsing. I'm going to hit some balls tonight....(if it doesn't rain) and get back to you.
Slayer. This may help or not. To me, that little flick michael is showing almost feels like I'm trying to toe hook it. I've never in my life felt like I was trying to swing left. Now.........hell, I cant get left quick enough. Thinking of the top of the club will prevent you from rolling it if you have that problem. I find that thinking of the back of the club..... Hell, not sure how to put it. Sounds stupid, but i'm pushing the back of the club. You got this man. I know you do. Push that fucker around. You got it.
Charles Doral ever see a roofer or carpenter worth their salt drive a nail in one easy motion? They don't do a big motion now do they? They use efficient motion and hand speed at the correct moment.
There is nothing new in golf or any athletic motions. All I have done is put concepts together that improved my game. I presented them here to help others improve as I did. That’s all but thanks for commenting.
I have read Dan Shauger's book and Mike Austin's work and while I respect their writings, you have explained it very elegantly. I have employed your biceps curl in a scapular plane with great effect and have always been impressed that keeping the forearm palm up helps align the arm with the shaft and aids shaft loading, vital for compression. Well done
Hi Michael. Worked on the slap and a few times really felt it...... but did have. Some issues with timing the release/slap.....do you want the club to be dropped on the Sagittal line first, irregardless of the club and then move the body frontwards or backwards...I think my timing was off because I was thrusting my rt arm from the top and I believe you had said that the rt arm was almost on/or slightly above the rt hip....is that correct? Thanks Peter
peter mies you are correct. Try addressing ball an inch off toe or so first. It's so foreign to most they struggle at first. Also do the board excercise. It gives you the right feel. The little slap feel is at the end of the kinetics so relax the hand.
michael broderick hi Michael...That video on fa Jing was amazing....I watched it when you initially sent it and then again with a different intent I suppose....anyway the idea that your body has to be be relaxed and then the objects ;ball) is struck with the whole body.....that the rt hip is used in the traditional sense I’d debunked and rather that the hips are straight ahead and even turned trail side at impact. Regarding power that video was incredible I guess my question is .....how much of that can be applied to golf
My normal easy 7i is 185 yards. I basically hit pro distances. Curious no? How is that possible? I'm using angular momentum and biomechanics. Straight and long.
This is gold. Can’t tell you how much this swing has helped my game. Finally freed my mind up. Love it.

I'm not sure if you have a predominant feeling that really gives you a thrill in the swing, but for me, I'll tell you, the "sliding your knockers under the ball" is like nirvana. Its kind of all I seek in the swing. Its like a drug for crying out loud.
Bladnaster Naster lol drugs kill you golf doesn’t good comment
I see when you do this move it seems like your left wrist is collapsing after impact, and the right hand is overtaking the left causing a chicken wing. When I do it, it’s putting a lot of pressure on the outside of my left wrist and causing pain. Wouldn’t the right hand have to release at some point without snapping the left wrist.
If you have pain stop. Too ways to stop it. Turn the torso more and the chicken goes away. Second check that grip.
Make sure hands oppose. You can also firmnthe left wrist a bit
In later videos I learned to eliminate the chicken wing. Torso turn did it. It didn't make my ball striking any better. It just moved my hands up.
Thank you for this detailed explanation. To get the club underneath the ball, are you trying to hit ball first or ground first before the ball at impact (if ground first, how many inches before impact?)?
Luis Juarez always ball first Luis
Thank you, how about shaft angle at impact for say a 7 iron, to get more under the equator of the bAll are you trying to get less shaft angle at impact?
Trying to understand what gets you more under the ball than a regular golf swing approach for an iron shot.
Also are we firing the arm out or down behind the right foot as we turn
cebc40 look at 3.09 mark in the video for Andy for your answer.
michael broderick Brilliant, got it!! Thank you very much.
Eureka!!!!!!! Michael this is Randy!!!! I never until know knew that is what Cmotion was!!!!!! Going to golf Course now and will report back!!!!! Man that explaination might be the best on the internet of cmotion !!!!
Randy
Do you rotate the right forearm by?
another good one, very simple. is the slap motion what they call ulna deviation?
Yes
Thank you!
I was a very good ball player back in the day. That would be the great vshpigel! Model maker artist.
I bet! Other than timing, there is a lot of the same stuff going on between baseball and golf. And thank you so much for the speedy response!
@@jacobr4558 I'll be doing a video on the right wrist as well. I liken it to shooting a basketball. Welcome aboard.
Without seeing I'd say get that grip underneath. It delays the rollover. Send me a video.
Does that motion produce a natural draw? It seems like it would by uncocking the wrist that way?
Your palm controls the face. You can hit what you want. Mostly I'm dead straight.
@@michaelbroderick awesome! Thanks so much. Looking forward to it.
hi michael after watching this vid last night and today i went to my local park where there are some cricket nets, im able to hit balls into them safely, i tried that forearm/wrist move and was quite shocked at the power that seemed to be released, i also was using the 10 finger grip for the first time and found that a 'release' seemed more natural, even with the very short movement that you describe the ball pinged off the club face!! ive been looking for something 'new' in the golf swing and i think i must delve deeper into your method which i think if im correct is based on C motion by Lee Comeaux? could you recommend an initial beginners vid or series of vids? Cheers
thatwilldonicely just watch any 5 of my videos. Also watch Lee's channel.
thatwilldonicely btw I loved your video you posted. Lots of fun there. I'll play with your group anytime!
Great video Michael, what are you doing after impact? Are you turning the hands over and how are you releasing the club?
maeu59 just imagine that hammer. Better yet go get one. If there were no nail how would you follow through? Momentum will show you the answer.
I can also send you a private video that illustrates this well. Send me your email.
michael broderick can you put it on hangouts I’ll send you a message so you know it’s me
maeu59 I'm on hangouts at michael.broderick4@gmail.com
This would be a nice video to see
Michael.......... would you say that the right hand grip under the club feels as strong as possible under the club? Or somewhere in between? Strong meaning turned right as opposed to turned left and on top of the club.
Jay Scott strong V up forearm.Go back and watch Lee or I. You'll see the v's
michael broderick you are really outdoing yourself now.
Jay Scott simultaneously
Hi Michael, I have been using your technique and it works like a charm! Question, how would you curve the ball? I am a lefty.
The face determines spin. Open or close it at address to match your intention. You can also pronate or supinate forearms and each the same thing but that requires timing.
This looks so simple to do?
Everday life motions you already know how to do. Just related to golf is all. We golf nuts make it too hard.
You got it.
I push a lot of things around every chance I get, just not golf clubs apparently. ;)
Just watched the Cmotion ruler again. Another great example/visual.
After seeing this, I recommend you do a vid combining this with “162” (the hat LOC) Might be the golfer’s Holy Grail...
I can't seem to get the hang of this strong grip the club looks very closed at impact, I'm obviously doing something wrong 😬
Watch his other videos on grip.....you can check your grip and face angle before you put the club on the ground and it works 100 percent of rhe time.
@@cheezburger6130 Thank you. I think a neutral grip suits me better I still get lag but the club is square at impact.
So the slap is the flick?
Charles Doral yes
Charles Doral ever see a roofer or carpenter worth their salt drive a nail in one easy motion? They don't do a big motion now do they? They use efficient motion and hand speed at the correct moment.
michael broderick you can totally tell within 5 seconds if a so called handyman/house- construction guy is any good by watching him pound 1 nail.
Mike Austin, Mike Dunaway, Dan Shauger, all did this. Nothing new.

Thanks
Peter
peter mies you are correct. Try addressing ball an inch off toe or so first. It's so foreign to most they struggle at first.
Also do the board excercise. It gives you the right feel.
The little slap feel is at the end of the kinetics so relax the hand.
peter mies then review this video and learn how to use your body and hand. ua-cam.com/video/u98AcNnPulQ/v-deo.html
michael broderick hi Michael...That video on fa Jing was amazing....I watched it when you initially sent it and then again with a different intent I suppose....anyway the idea that your body has to be be relaxed and then the objects ;ball) is struck with the whole body.....that the rt hip is used in the traditional sense I’d debunked and rather that the hips are straight ahead and even turned trail side at impact. Regarding power that video was incredible I guess my question is .....how much of that can be applied to golf
peter mies 100 percent.
michael broderick that’s incredible..so that is one reason why you don’t need a long backswing to generate power......
Do you use this for the full swing?
Yes
Crap. I'm now driving the ball over 350 yards, but now I hit all my putts 30 yards passed the hole. ;)
i,m buying a bag of hammers
richard johnson lol classic don’t forget the nails
The ball may go straight but will not go very far. The hips give the power. This gimmick is more an under casting movement.
My normal easy 7i is 185 yards. I basically hit pro distances. Curious no? How is that possible? I'm using angular momentum and biomechanics. Straight and long.
