Now I'm fairly new to your channel and I'm guessing you're around my age (I'm 49) but, the way you work reminds me so much of my late father. He passed unexpectedly in 2010 at only 57 but, he could fix, repair or even build anything he put his mind to. When he passed, I wish I knew half of what he had forgotten! I truly enjoy your channel and content. I first watched the "MOOstang" video and immediately subscribed and went to your very first video and am working my way to the top. Thank you for a wonderful channel and I've even learned a few things since I started watching! Much love and respect from lil' ol' Clemson SC! 💙🙏🏼
I'm very close to in the same boat.. My dad passed in 2015, I'm just 44.. Same thing here, my old man could fix anything he touched and I got that from him.. Engineering stuff, building things people tell me could never be done.. yeah. Watch his heater system he build for waste oil, great series.. He gets it done and I think I've watched every video so far and can't wait for the next to come.. Take care!
Started watching your content about 3 months ago have enjoyed everything you've put out keep up the great work now I'm going to sit back and enjoy the video
i wish more people would just take a couple of mins to keep the door drains on the bottom of the door clean of dirt it would keep the doors from rusting out
Don't be jealous. If it's in the budget I can tell you where you can find these trucks running for not a lot of money and still the bodies in decent shape. Now these trucks which I like the Viking 60 series I got two of them. I don't need both of them I just plan to keep the one. I drove 6 hours each way to get some decent old tires and rims. It cost me more gas to go get them then did for that rims and tires. But I looked at a few other things while I was there. One guy well between four guys and the same general area had Studebaker Ford Chevy international and maybe one Dodge that was about two and a half ton trucks. If they aren't in your budget at least they're good to look at. By the way 1967 and newer are not desirable currently by collectors. So you can get them relatively cheap. Plus I have more modern amenities. The six lug Chevy on the large trucks like that well there's no rims that interchange with it. It want to see more just look at my comment on this video which I think the man did a very good job. If you're seriously interested just message me with a reply and I'll get you the information you can call the people we're talking around the $3,000 mark. Can't even get a pickup for that anymore. On the Viking 60s series from the mid 50s through 1966 and the c50 and smaller trucks the cabs interchange of pickups. On the Viking trucks the hood interchanges with pickups. The fender and grill is different. If that helps any
There's a number them out there in farm country that's for sure they're available. Might be a longer drive from out there in Kansas and similar places. And they are great trucks for that
It's a chevy, 8 cylinders, 6 cylinders, it don't care how many are working, she'll still run and get ya home! I saw an old 350 with a rod through the oil pan. Still ran fine, just made a LOT of noise!
Seeing this truck brought back some memories of my childhood :) This Was first truck i ever drove and first manual too, was 13 and was driving and doing lumber deliveries way off in the bush for the loggers to build homes for the summer . Nice to see one still kicking and in Great shape too . Youre a miracle worker mate . Cheers .
When you said "I ain't got no brakes then took off like a corn cobbled tom cat it reminded me of " Wolf Creek Pass" by C.W McCall! Look out chicken coop! LOL!
That is actually a pretty nice truck for its age. It would not take that much to pretty it up a bit if you needed another hobby. Lot of fun seeing this one. Nice job:)
I sure hope you billed him for everything including your time , you must have a good 40 hrs including drive time ( hard to tell by your video ) your time is worth something don’t you think and he’s getting his farm truck back !
Thank you for schooling me that compression fittings are bogus on brake lines... no wonder they are flared. Thanks... oh yeah, are the cows Re-negotiating their appearance fees?? 😂😂Love your channel... touche’
that governor deal was interesting. I wondered how that worked. That carb is designed for a governor maybe? It would be headed for the trash and a new 2 barrel would be in order. the government controls enough of my life. I don't need a carb telling me how fast I'm NOT going to go...
On the small block Chevvies with ramshorn exhaust manifolds, we found it of utility to use brass nuts on the exhaust studs. Never had one seize but that a nut cracker couldn't get it off, or a sharp, small chisel on the inside stud. 😎 Usually on the Rochester 2GV's a low range stumble is from an air leak - often through the throttle shaft. Nice work bringing this one back. Thanks for bringing us along.
Great stuff as always! But this is why so many people do the exterior fuel tank until they can get it home. No need to keep going home for parts. Thank you for the great content!!
The same thing happened to my thermostat housing. Bolts broke off. That was super fun fixin. 😒 Not sure where that truck is located, but it looks very familiar.......like I've seen it on the road years ago. The brake lines.....my Fury was the same way. Rotted at every metal hanger. Fix one hole, it blows out somewhere else. Lol. Just had to replace the entire line. And that JB weld is awesome. Works for everything. I knew someone that JB welded a crack in their block, and it actually lasted. Couldn't believe it. That truck there........she makin you replace everything on her. 😄 that farmers gonna have to pay for a new truck it seems after all that repair 😆 And you're lucky. Here in SC, layin on the ground, only gets you eaten by fire ants. Lol. There's not a single square foot where there's no ants.
You better make sure those legs are locked on that aluminum platform. I didn’t have one side locked on mine and when I was working on my truck the side I didn’t lock gave way and I fell and broke my foot. BE CAREFUL MY FRIEND!
Sadly soon all combustion cars and trucks including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Car washs will be forbidden too because they are climate killers, now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime. (BABVVEN & TEBBVEN laws)
Love the old Bowtie. It's an ol' tank of a truck. Curious what the story is on the ol' Bullnose Ford over by the pole shed. Great video. Really enjoy watchin' ya bring the old American Iron back to life.
Bubba that platform on those tall trucks are great , i bought one that goes over the tire and is expendable to fit many sizes . its good to get you right up in the work area !
Manifolds on them trucks never survive with the heat they generate under a load,,, they glow when they are fully loaded in high gear! Them larger models tho with low miles are usually beat up from hard loading.
I have a 1968 C-60 also with the 327. It has 64k original miles on it. Two speed trans, etc. The way it is set up, it MUST be fully choked to start (even if it was 100 degrees outside) and will not start unless you do. Once she starts you must ease the choke in as the operating temp comes up and really, she doesn't get warmed up properly for about ten minutes. A buddy has the same set up and his is the exact same way.
I have the identical truck, 1967 C 50, 4 speed, 2 speed rear axle , same blue color, it has a grain box and hoist. The 327 was replaced by Goodwrench 350 . I doubt the new engine has 3000 miles. I bought it from a retired farmer. It has the same hydrovac breaks as this truck. That hydrovac system is driving me nuts. Any new production units or good re builders out there ?
Well sir bless your heart but I think your work on this truck in this video is excellent! And that old truck Just proved how viable The hei distributor and fuel injection could make life a whole lot easier especially on cold mornings and cold and I've already subscribed to your channel and I watch a lot of great videos
Now that's a great old truck that you have done a wonderful job getting back and running 👍 I had a 64 GMC 7 ton with a split rear end dump truck. 401 V6 would do 55 mph fully loaded or empty didn't matter, and got about 4 MI to the gallon 😂 I absolutely loved that truck. Keep up the great work Chad 👍✌️🇺🇲
I’m 21 & bought an older car & I know nothing about cars 🤦♂ Which was probably my worst mistake especially bc it was my first car.. I’m to in love with it to get rid of It 🥺 Do you ever take your subscribers cars for a fix up? Obviously would have $ for parts I have a 1986 Chrysler fifth ave it used to run but now idk what’s wrong with her .. kinda my last chance at keeping her scared to take her to most mechanics bc they charge an arm & a leg I know this is a very odd request 😂
One UA-camr that you outta check out is Taryl Fixes All, he repairs lawnmowers, minibikes and motorcycles. He has a heat-quench technique for removing stuck bolts
Next time you work on a carb with a leather acc pump, take it out of the kit when you start on it. Spread (expand) it and put it in some atf. It will swell up and fit the bore better...........
My memory is so dang short so would you be so kind as to say if the wagon with the rusted out top got going? I remember you were a building the engine again... hopefully you remembered that dang oil slinger washer gizmo just before that seal on the timing cover.... I have not once but a couple times forgot that critter and they toss out oil by the barrel if ya forgets it.... I do remember you were chasing down a big ol spacer that separates the harmonic balancer and the front of the timing cover... it is best for ya to give it a name as I have given it a name good for a "Bleep".
Hello from Siesta Key Florida Brakes are overrated, if you learned to drive in the rust belt with vehicles that had single hole master cylinder you are the man . Cause when they went south it became a ride.
Love your videos man. See if you can find a old honda 3 wheeler to fix up. They are pretty easy to fix up. I love them and think you would enjoy them too idk
Excellent video Chad :) also nice farmer got in touch with you fix old farm stake truck and was lots fun seeing get up running again plus test drive too! Also shocked me 327 2 barrel carb Rochester on with hand choke cable still ! I thought might got 4 barrel carb with Manual choke upgraded years back to Lol ! Also I remember those trucks surprises me did have orgnail as 292 6 cylinder motor plus Rochester 2 barrel carb and 5 speed Manual transmission floor shifter only or have upgraded 350 V8 4 barrel and 10 speed Manual transmission floor shifter with air brakes too lots farmers do that to those trucks in my area!
Water pumps and exhausts are about the same. You can drill tiny holes from the outside. Douse it in PB blaster and let it soak. This will free it up inside the casing. That rust has seized it I to place. This happened on my waterpump on my 89' Grand Marque. Head snapped off the bolt on the upper right side. I was told by a Dodge guy, that if you use 3/16 drill bit and drill several holes onto the housing, spray with lubricant and vice grip them puppies out. Good thing is that the wayerpump bolts always break in the same hole, and it will break off with about a 1/4 inch of that shaft sticking out of the hole. With that exhaust, same thing, except use a death grinder to flatten 2 sided of the bolt head to fasten you vicegrips to.
Great video, Chad. That old truck runs great. Good ole Chebbielay! That Wilton vise in your basement of wonders is a thing of beauty. Keep up the great work.
Alot of them old trucks were a factory 427 big block and alot of them were small blocks depending on the options or how it was ordered from the factory
The ol' girl sounded better and better the more she ran. Can't keep a small block Chevy down, mate. Great to see her moving under her own power too - although that first gear is probably only useful for climbing the sides of the barns or a nearby three story building.......she's a bit low geared is what I'm saying! She's not a bad old beast, that one. On two-barrel Rochesters, I have one on a 269 cubic inch British Leyland engine known as the P76 V8. The carb was in a bad way, so I sent it in for a total overhaul, where they replaced pretty much everything, including all brash bushings in the linkages. She came back a much better unit.....but she still skips a beat when you first hit the gas - almost like the first pump of the pedal primes the squirter.....or it dumps too much in. I've learned to compensate for it when taking off by quickly blipping the throttle then putting my foot back on the gas to the desired rpm. To just put my foot straight where I want it, is to invite it to stumble and think about stalling. Strange little carb - only does it when it's been idling under 1000rpm for a minute or more....like at the lights or in the driveway. I consider it a quirk and don't worry about it. Looking at the fuel filter canister and the line up front where she fountained near the end, I'm picking the chances are the fuel line is pretty rat-bagged from front to rear and that wee leak up front might just be the start of a whole mess of springs she could produce. I figure you'll look that over a bit when you're underneath with the brakes, but I couldn't help but wonder whether to trust it considering. All the best - ad I look forward to hearing her roar into life and another trip around the farm when you get the brake lines in!
That tobacco being smoke cured is one of the things I miss about living down there. I've worked tobacco fields up here when I was a kid, but here it's just air-cured and it's just not the same, lol. Only time it was ever close was when we'd be baling the leaves in a wood box, compressing it with 2 bumper jacks rigged up for the purpose in a side room off the tobacco barn and heating the room with a little cast iron stove.
Once you go get one of your one barrel, Ollies and rebuild it and put it on there and throw it down, registered in the junk pile and put an 80 in it and be done with it
I like that truck. The 327 is a great engine. It doesn't have a four bolt main. Back in day I knew plenty of guys who tore up the crank and them in their dump trucks. I have a 1959 and 1960 Vikings series 60 trucks same size as this one. I like to get a 67 so I can have one of each body style. Two I have had dumping beds because they're grain trucks. They're not show trucks and I use them to work as I need them. But it's just something different than the other guys with their pickups. Besides he's a more affordable. I've got the equivalent of the box body in a c50 as well. But it's a box truck with no freehoff box on back that probably came from the 60s originally. Well I think everybody's got to collect something and I do like these trucks. I like how you just kept going at it and going at it and not only are you getting it to run but you are getting it to where he can use it again. I enjoyed your video
Yes, old blue will always run, you are appreciated, thank you.
congratulations on the quitting smoking that's hard AF

You keep what your doing sir ! Your channel will blow up. Mighty fine viewing!
I'd have to agree , "This n That Garage" has quickly gained a spot in my top 3 automobile related go-to channels.
i wish more people would just take a couple of mins to keep the door drains on the bottom of the door clean of dirt it would keep the doors from rusting out
They got that tobacco out of the field and hanging in the barn pretty quick, miss them days, and smell, be bundling up the leaves pretty soon
I love those old c40 and c50 Chevys. They’re about the right size to do most any work. I’m jealous!
Don't be jealous. If it's in the budget I can tell you where you can find these trucks running for not a lot of money and still the bodies in decent shape. Jealous to the jealousy
There's a number them out there in farm country that's for sure they're available. Might be a longer drive from out there in Kansas and similar places. And they are great trucks for that
We love to watch your videos. You can work on anything & everything just keep them rolling. Its always different.Never boring!!!!Thank you!!!!!!
Those Rochester carbs we're made in my town maybe 2 miles from me

Carburetor=Millennial torture device. That's what I have discovered with the younger generation. That's all we had back in our day

Nice work Chad. Yes that thing was a headache but I knew you were going to figure it out thanks for bringing me along
Another great video! God bless 🙏🏼🇺🇸
Another one brought back from the grave! Good job buddy
Excellent job. Enjoyed you and the job you did. Brought back memories of being on the farm
I used to wrench with a guy that sounds just like you, and could make something out of nothing, pull equipment from its grave.
If it were me I'd convert that to hei ignition! You can buy all new one on eBay for 55.00 with 65,000 volt coil!

Another good video. Did you ever find out if it's a 283 or a 327? Lots of work. Thanks for the entertainment, Dave.
327
The 283 was only offered on the C40s. The 50s got a 327
I need to stop binge watching your videos or I'm gonna start talking like you. Then again "I don't know".
Great to see another video. Cool old truck. Liked, shared. All my best.
Anos de fabricação, 1955,1956,1957,caminhões eram lindos.

Thats a cool truck there Chad, good to see that you have been successful with another fire up.. awesome - keep it up..
Is that 350 engine a 2 or 4 bolt main engine.? A long road trip would help.
If it's got the double hump heads it takes the big 13/16 plugs not the 5/8 .
Great video, Chad. That old truck runs great. Good ole Chebbielay! That Wilton vise in your basement of wonders is a thing of beauty. Keep up the great work.
I see a blue truck in the weeds check that one out maybe he might give it to you for working on the farm truck
Alot of them old trucks were a factory 427 big block and alot of them were small blocks depending on the options or how it was ordered from the factory
Great work! Did them brake hoses end up being the fix?
Cool old truck, id like to take it for a ride myself. Keep up the good work!
We had one of those trucks when I lived on the farm with my folks and grandparents. Hauled a lot of wheat to town in it.
Because of You Bud ,I am a Better mechanic than i ever was..Thanks
Awesome! 👍
That tobacco being smoke cured is one of the things I miss about living down there. I've worked tobacco fields up here when I was a kid, but here it's just air-cured and it's just not the same, lol. Only time it was ever close was when we'd be baling the leaves in a wood box, compressing it with 2 bumper jacks rigged up for the purpose in a side room off the tobacco barn and heating the room with a little cast iron stove.
sounds good, carb problems for sure accelerator pump not working?
Once you go get one of your one barrel, Ollies and rebuild it and put it on there and throw it down, registered in the junk pile and put an 80 in it and be done with it
Or barrel if you didn’t wanna fix that right up, wouldn’t have no hesitation and nothing
trans fluid works good in the cylinders. itll get it runnin even of no compression then die out jist a tip bub incase ya need it
Engine looks and sounds like Soviet GAZ 53
Love your content! Keep it up!
you know that fuel filter cover looks likre something from a coffee thermas
