It is criminal to talk about Vegeta without mentioning the scene where he looks up into the sky as the rain falls on his face.
One of my favorite scenes. He's finally reached the level he always dreamed of reaching...and it wasn't enough. He doesn't know how to process that failure. Lots of self-doubt. But in typical Vegeta fashion he finds a way to use that as motivation and push further ahead. Tried to keep the video under 10 mins, but I agree that's an amazing scene I should have spent some time on.

As someone who just finished Z, Vegeta is probably my favourite anime character ever. He's so egotistical and cocky, but at the end of the day he sacrifices himself for the entire Earth. He also has the greatest speeches/rants out of any character in anime. His speech explaining how he became a Super Saiyan is legendary

seems like it was heavily edited in the American version though, I rewatched the Japanese version and iirc he says something along the lines that he didn't care about his family nor that much about his race, but Freeza trampled his pride as he ruled over him and he could never forgive him for that.

But I believe they made him nicer and caring in the dubbed version than he was in the original where only his ego and pride seems to really matter.

What I love about Super Vegeta is he is still Vegeta through and through, but he’s Vegeta completed. He goes to Whis’ world before Goku. Beats him to the Punch. It’s his true final part of his arc: he has enough humility to be trained by someone else.
Honestly, Im ok with Vegeta not having a ton of change in super, he definitely does still change a little bit, but most of his growth is over with. He already redeemed himself and became a good person, so there isn't too much more to go off of. He does become a bit better of a father like when he went on that train ride in that amusement park with Trunks. My only complaint with Vegeta is that he can't manage to ever beat anyone in a fight but Goku.
Agreed. How much more can he grow without losing who he is? Like you said, he's already been redeemed. Even moreso than beating Goku I think he needs a legitimate key win...over anyone 🤣 he always gets the shaft in big fights.

@@gallenberger1 Vegeta only needs to win a single fight to complete his arc. And no, not against Goku. Vegeta needs to kill Freeza. If he does that, he will have come full circle and it will be a satisfying conclusion to his character.

I really loved Vegeta's evolution along Z and he became one of my favorite characters in anime (even though Toriyama admitted he never liked him, he's still very well written and it feels natural).
But I felt like he regressed on Super, as said in the video he was not written nearly as well in this show (but as lots of other things that weren't either ...).
He's supposed to have made his peace with his past at the end of Z, even calling Goku his "best friend" and acknowledging him as the strongest, but in Super he's still kind of an a*hole and seems to have gone back on his words.
Vegeta always has villian like monologuing and dominate brutal fights that typically villians do in DBZ.

Yeah, Goku is a fair warrior that doesn't want to kill. Krillin on the other hand would. Goku never spared his enemies as a kid, this character development of Goku happened probably when Krillin first died in the original DB, or after his training with Kami.
I actually love the idea of Vegeta becoming a mentor figure, while still being a badass himself. He has grown fond of those around him and it makes sense he would share his knowledge now that hes less selfish, and he dislikes weakness so making others stronger instead of hating on them feels like another form of growth. Goku is arguably still quite selfish in a lot of ways xD
Honestly Vegeta is genuinely at his best in the modern Super Manga.
Vegeta can no longer tap back into his Saiyan nature and Goku can't suppress it. Vegeta is afraid of even touching who he used to be, but he has to. The yin and the yang are actually very interesting.
Will that get adapted?

I'm not much of an anime guy so maybe its cliché for me to say but Vegeta is one of the best characters ever.
I've watched over 200 anime, and he's still one of the best for me. It's not just you.
@@gallenberger1 The character arc from coming to Earth being the most deranged killer to his final atonement is just awesome. I've been on a bit of a Dragon Ball kick on YT lately and I want to get into DBS but I know its not gonna have that same serious vibe and writing as DBZ.
@MrAleB305 100% agree. Vegeta's arc is awesome and timeless. Also with you on Super. It's fine but you can't recapture that same magic of Z.

Vegeta has one of the most intense character arc of all anime villains and found redemption within being rivals and on occasion, friend to Goku and everyone.
I still get goosebumps of thinking about the line he says in his sacrifice:
"And yes, even for you...Kakarot"
He allows Android 19 to steal his energy and then says “does a machine like yourself ever experience fear?” Not only does he undermine him by calling him a machine, he mocks him with “steal my energy, I don’t care, I’m still going to obliterate you.” Vegeta is the epitome of never giving up. He JUST. WON’T. QUIT. Take that in your real life. “What would Vegeta do?”
I remember not understanding every dialogue Vegeta would say and picking up a Spanish dictionary (cause I watched latino dub) he is simply epic.
I've got news for you. Many tropes that people assume DragonBall z started were actually around before DragonBall z. Vegeta acts much like a proud traditional Samurai.

I believe Vegeta is secretly Akira Toriyama’s fave character, not goku. Vegeta hands down has the best character development in the entire show. And he’s always the underdog to goku. Everyone loves an underdog.

I've read that initially Toriyama didn't like Vegeta. Regardless if this is true or not, Toriyama thankfully made him into his best character.

Vegeta is the best character and by far the most realistically developed.
Kind of like how Ahsoka became the favorite during clone wars, I think vegeta is the favorite in dragon ball, he is just too real.
Guys think about that... Vegeta doesn't kill Nappa for being weak, he does so because he suffered debilitating damage with his spine broken, vegeta doesn't know about senzu beans at the moment.
I think they make that more clear in the manga.

When I was 12 or 13 I remember me and my brother rooting for Vegeta. We had never seen anything like the saiyan and namek sagas. Goku seemed too good, too perfect, Vegeta felt more like us

What i really like in the 3 is how each one of them was able to make their anti hero different:
Vegeta is the most charismatic, the eternal rival who devoted his life to surpass the protagonist, even so he was never able to truly do that, his charismatic persona was enough to carry the whole show making impossible to imagine dragon ball without vegeta.
sasuke is the better used, after realizing he would not be able to keep it up with the protagonist, he simply left him to start his own personal arc and had his own personal story (itachi, orchimaru etc) where only in end of the series he would reunite with naruto again when he needed the most but this time not as a weaker rival but as the only one who could help him shoulder to shoulder.
zoro is the one who accepted he would never surpass luffy and never tried to do so only acting as his right hand man who would always have his back when needed, which elevated luffy character as the king because he was able to lead an uncontrollable man that could pretty much have his own crew and still be at the top.
You also gotta add the speeches he gave in the T.O.P and the one against goku black about what it truly means to be a saiyan and black can never fill gokus shoes
When people talk about having an inner voice in their head, mine is the scene of vegita screaming after he discovers Gohan stole his dragonball on repeat.

Your video was so good I saved it to my favorites list. I looked to see if you had other DBZ videos, but did not see any. I will look at your other anime videos and watch some.

Vegeta and Seto Kaiba are my favorite anime rivals to this day and i think I'm speaking for all of us that the abridged versions did them both justice.
He’s one of the best characters ever. You love to hate him. He’s such a dick, but you kind of understand since he always plays second fiddle to Goku. To everyone who is ambitious but lacks natural talent and has to grind it out only to get beat by innocent goobers who are naturally gifted, Vegeta is poetic.
i wish you would have mentioned how when push came to shove, he was willing to put aside his ego and the humiliation goku gave him by holding back ssj3 and saving him countless times to fuse with goku into vegito when he learned that bulma and trunks were killed. it really showed tremendous character development that he did that.

I love how you displayed Vegeta. Such a great depiction. Honestly can say that between the two main characters of the show, Vegeta is the only one of the two that had any real character development. Goku hasn't changed much throughout the entire series. Playful until its time to be serious. No real depth there. Vegeta on the other hand, changed more than anyone. They do make a great team though. like someone else pointed out, the yin and yang. Goku being the pure one while Vegeta was the opposite. Great duo. Thanks for the video.
Vegeta groveling to Beerus on their first shown meeting is the pinnacle of his moral shift over the series from everything I've watched (full disclosure, have not kept up with Super minus the sorta overlapping Z/Super Battle of Gods/Resurrection F movies). He wasn't scared to die. He made that quite clear right before and after Beerus slapped tf out of Bulma - he was fine with dying before that slap. Not wanting to die, but he was entirely accepting of it. He didn't charge Beerus because he suddenly thought he could win, it was just pure Saiyan rage fueling him enough to at least catch Beerus off guard if not actually hurt him.
A very, very far cry from the bloodthirsty former prince who murdered a coworker for subpar performance on the job. Seeing him dance like a buffoon to appease Beerus hurts to watch at first until you realize - he isn't scared for himself. He's scared for the people he cares about, even if they are a bunch of genetically inferior monkeys who don't even have tails.

fr i always forget just how vulnerable he shows himself to be after Frieza fight - I remember it ofc but like.. seeing it again in video just got me thinking about how I don't think anything we see before or since his death to Frieza shows anywhere near that level of sincere emotions that aren't anger.

as a kid, my first introduction to dragonball on toonami was majin vegeta. i have still yet to find a better character in all of television that i would inspire to be like. his rage comes from his pride and what he is willing to do to satisfy both is what i think makes him loved. when he fought off babadis mind control just to fight goku i was mezmerised

I used to watch a cartoon called Ronin Warriors after dragin ball z in the 90's. I think the character named Anubis was just like Vegeta. A bad guy, but also good and ends up switching sides. I think he was before vegeta. But I still adore vegeta. Good video. I didn't realize how powerful his words were

Vegeta is one of my all-time favorite characters in any media. It's like Toriyama loved Raoh from HNK, and gave him the "What if he didn't fight Kenshiro to the death" alternate reality.
You showcased a lot of shared favorite scenes as well as sentiments. It's great to know there are many other fans out there!
I love art, and anime is a big part of it as well. I don't usually pick favorites because even the best characters, art, music and story are all subjective. But if there WAS a character I always come back to, it's Vegeta. The artwork behind him inspired me to draw anime in the first place. His growth, though slow, is commendable and unlike character arcs like Bakugo who just so happened to have a calmer, calculated and sometimes kinder side to him, really feels like he didn't earn that alignment. Vegeta's an asshole, always was, but he learns to be kinder, at least in his own way. And that's what I always love about him. He grows, but stays the same, and it works. Usually, that's a terrible trope, but he pulled it off.

Vegeta imo is the greatest anime character of all time. Every time I see a dark sinister character I think vegeta clone. His development has been astounding
When it comes to anime and anti-heroes as well as character development. It is and always will be my own personal opinion that Vegeta is basically the one and only progenitor. Others have their preferences of things, I get that, no need to say it. But in my opinion, none have or ever will top Vegeta as being one of the best, if not just the best character ever written into existence when it comes to developing. From ruthless, selfish and entitled. Evolving into honorable, a father, a husband, selfless even at times and more open and willing to admit his own flaws as well as work on them, let alone come to try and help others with theirs and be a teacher and a mentor. He truly is and always will be my favorite anime character of any.
Goku: I understand it now. If it wasn't for Freezer, you wouldn't be evil.

You don’t change what’s not broken (Goku). I think it’s a major point the series emphasizes that Goku is the type of individual that indirectly brings hood or the best out of people. All of his close friends are clear examples of that. Vegeta and Piccolo, two of the best character developments I’ve seen in a show ever. Also two of the most relatable and likable dudes.
He changed media forever, his popularity coincides with the rise of the anti-hero

I'd like to make a correction, I don't think he was mortified that Gohan saved him in the Cell Saga. He was but it was more at himself not being more helpful because at the same time he was also proud of Gohan as a Saiyan Warrior.

I would’ve loved for this to go into the King role. We see moments like him giving his mightiest warrior,Kakarot, a command and Kakarot following through 🔥🔥
While Vegeta isn't my favorite character (young Gohan during the Android/Cell sagas is), I understand why he is for so many people. He has the most consistent overall characterization through all arcs over all other characters.
Love me some vegeta. I think cutting it short on how far he's come in super is abit of a disservice though. It's the pinnacle of his arc. He's fully accepted his place as a father and protector. Even now going as far as to take others under his wing and chastises top for allowing himself to be transformed into a god of destruction just to gain power , which is exactly what he did with majin. Hes still arrogant and strength is of the upmost importance to him but he's got many other levels now and he's accepted it.
I don't think it's the pinnacle of his arc, but you do make some good points about its importance.

8:40 - Despite all the unwitting aliens and planets he's destroyed, on top of the scores of innocent people in the tournament... He came back with a halo over his head implying he was somehow good enough to go to heaven... Yet nearly all other villains, even ones who did far lesser crimes, went straight to hell.
This still somewhat bugs me, he could have gotten some enjoyment in hell reuniting with Frieza and easily pummeling him down with his then-current power... but then Resurrection F/DB Super showed Frieza instead went to heaven as a joke because the higher powers that be figured he would've enjoyed hell, and they were right... and Vegeta would've been robbed of his revenge even in the afterlife :P

Vegeta's pride was definitely hurt in that first match like you said and I think the storytelling of his hurt pride resonated so much that people actually remember that fight as a Vegeta loss.
