Early 1996. I was 11 and could happily go back to this era. Thank you so much for this upload 👍 'So Pure' was underrated even if it was made 3rd. Sort of a forgotten hit. A couple of ill-advised remixes with TLC and Taylor Dayne. I always thought Lush had a big hit with that song as it was everywhere. Guess some songs don't translate into chart hits. Upside Down's is so a note for note copy of 'Careless Whisper'. Surprised George never sued them! Babylon Zoo, first ever South Asian act to make #1 in the UK. From Wolverhampton (outside of Birmingham) the lead singer. I admire how diverse the chart was back then. January is a quiet little month for faceless dance acts to get a small hit. Addis Black Window tried to represent Sweden in 2007 for Eurovision. Let's say, the vocals were terrible. John Alford was quite the hottie then 😉 Proper English lad. Too many great songs here. Hard to pick favourites. It's a tough group of songs. My favourite (#1) is 'Don't Look Back In Anger' by Oasis. A true classic. My other favourites are Sepultra (excellent slice of hard metal), Celine Dion's beautiful ballad (if underrated), Baby D's forgotten great club track, George Michaels emotional ballad, Luniz old skool classic 'I Got 5 On It' and a Cher forgotten classic 'One By One'. Plus many many more...
I started watching MTV‘s Hit List UK that month, so I actually remember most of the tracks. Crazy times, when there were about five new entries in the Top 10 every week, and tracks like „Slight Return“, „So Pure“ and „Hyperballad“ were Top 10 hits, and bands like Leftfield, Echobelly, Alcatraz or Sepultura all had singles in the Top 20. The golden age of UK electronica, trip hop, the second wave of Britpop bands and American hip hop/R‘n‘B.
Scooter were one of the acts that were big in Europe, but somehow had a top 20 UK hit in 1996, but never came back into the UK singles top 40 chart until 2002.
@@henio1983 They were particularly popular in Scotland, as I know that some of my peers back then were into that happy hardcore stuff that was happening then and a number of Scottish youths really went for that in the mid-90s
Thanks for the video. Out of all those acts featured one of them has the uk No.1 album this week. Unbelievably it's Shed Seven!
Fun fact: She’d Seven were the only band to have 5 UK Top 40 singles in 1996 (yes, more than Celine Dion, Boyzone and George Michael!).

Taylor Hawkins (the drummer of the Foo Fighters who died) appears in the video of Alanis Morisette's You Learn
