It depends on what you prefer regarding the city, and what you plan to study. Göteborg is much larger than Umeå, and is located much closer to other larger cities, while Umeå is the largest city in the north, but in a less populated area of Sweden. Umeå probably has less activities in the "city", but offers plenty of exciting activities in the area around it. Göteborg is probably awesome, but as a Umeå student, I can whole heartedly recommend Umeå.

Why do 27 people not like this place? Does it flood in the winter? How about in the summer? Does it have many mosquitos? How about thieves and street corner beggars?
I havent seen any beggers at all for some years now in Umeå. I havent experienced much mosquitos and no floods after winter. Umeå is safe for now when it comes to criminality but there have appeared some crime gang now looking for new drug market. 🙁 I think it is mainly Ersboda there is alot of immigrants. I dont live personally in Umeå but I have been there countless times, mostly to buy stuff since most of the companies move there. Its more food stores and in the countryside.
I have no idea why 27 doesnt like Umeå but I think maybe they dont like the architecture or something? There are alot of stuff that are planned that will be built in Umeå. Avion shopping is getting bigger and they will build 4000 appartments in Teg (a part of Umeå). They will also build a new city part around Nydalasjön (it is a lake in Umeå). They think Umeå will reach 200K people by 2050. A new bath place just opened that got super popular in summer. And there are some cool plans about a bridge between Umeå-region and Vasa, I dont know much about it but I think it sounds really good because population is basically booming in Västerbotten (part of sweden where Umeå and Skellefteå is located in) so I think the bridge will make the opportunities wider in the North of sweden. There are industry boom in north sweden now but a batteri fabrik has alot of problem now with economy and alot of people changed their lifes and moved to sweden just to work in batteri fabric so some have to find new Jobs cuz the batteri fabric dont have money to sustain the fabric. Well, I think Umeå has a bright future ahead
Why so sloooow ... why so much drone scenes .... where are the People of Umeå ... the Town looks deserted ... Why so many dark evening and dawn scenes ... Don't make Umeå so Exotic, it's My hometown.

I've just brought a drone and have noticed that umea has a no fly zone over city and over by lake nydalasjon how do you get permission to fly

I'm planning to study in Sweden for 1 year. I have to decide between Umea and Göteborg. Which city should I go to?

Göteborg is not the city I would go to, Umeå is an eco city with nice warm nights at the summer, and the best summer feeling.
