- To celebrate the 30th Anniversary of "Only You" released on 15th March 1982, here is one of Yazoo's earliest TV appearances performing "Only You" on TOTP 29th April 1982! (No Copyright Infringement Intended)
Alison Moyet is without question one of the greatest singers ever to emerge from this country. She is a legend!
Absolutely David never given her true recognition a totally unique voice 👍
Andrew Matthews I wholeheartedly agree. It is deeply disappointing that she is not widely recognized as the greatest female singer to ever emerge from this country
I couldn't agree more-she was/is incredible
She's still got it! ua-cam.com/video/PHISaPkPagU/v-deo.html
ANY country, really.
I saw them when they toured a for the 'reunion' tour in Chicago...they sounded great, and her voice was just as strong and amazing as it was when I listened to these songs when they first came out (because I'm old).
One of my all-time favorite songs who else agrees
my 'fantasy' wedding song!
Same here
@@petermalaney450 well said how are you mate what country are you from
@@strobe155 sounds more like a breakup song then a wedding song.
#1 favorite song for me
After 41 years I still love this song ❤
I remember this! Top of the pops in the UK was a sacred programme in its day! Yazoo are amazing!
My god, I’m so happy to have been a teenager in the 80’s with songs like this.
Loved Alison man she was my sweet heart
This and classic Cure make me wish there were such a thing as a time machine. Though my high school years sucked arse, I want to go back for at least a holiday.
Gerald Lavery great times Gerald
i'm so happy i was in my 20's so i could be in the clubs wear everything as wild as possible and be so damn happy - it was the best time wasn't it?
🤗
Man she can sing. Grew up with this, so lucky.
Vince always looks so serious with such amazing music. I love him in Erasure and Depeche Mode. Listening in 2023 !
I had just turned 15 years old in March of 1982. Dang! 37 years ago. Now I have a grandson and I am old. But I am glad I grew up in the 80’s. 😁👍
TDC101 great days TDC 101
One month older than you and my grandaughter has just discovered my record collection.she is the same age as I was when this charted.she is currently playing the kick inside non stop.
52 is not old!
You're not old & you've got great taste in music.
RussellCrow69 Thanks! I wish we could all go back to the 80’s!! 😁👍
Still gives me the chills forty years later……another Vince Clarke hypnotic masterpiece
Timeless masterpiece. The song’s melody and emotion hasn’t faded in the slightest 41 years later.
I love the 80s. It has such cool, care free, nostalgic vibe. The best decade
God I wish I could go back to 1982.Great Music,Great People and Everyone I ever Loved still around.
Was in hmp Glen Parva when this was out. I sent a request to Janice Long on radio 1 and she played it for me. I'll never forget it. r.i.p. Janice
Remember when we were teenagers and our parents pined for the good old days the 1950's.....well guess what here we are 2020 and we are our parents now ,pining for the 80's the good old days.
Daniel Relph too right mate.
@Joshua Hennessy there really was some great music in the 80's.
Yep.
Can you imagine if 2020 winds up being the good old days for kids now? Something went wrong because in the 80’s the future looked bright and exciting but now the future if there is one is looking scary.
Wouldn't say the 80s were any better or worse than other decades but the music was incredible. Not sure if it surpassed or equalled the 60s for world beating tunes.
Great tune
The 80's...what a fun time to be young! Loved every minute of it 🤘💕
Maureen Chevalier great times Maureen sadly missed 😧
I liked that the top 40 was full of totally different songs. And as for top of the pops, a fat guy singing cheesy opera followed by shawaddy waddy, Michael jackson, status quo, salt and pepper, finishing with Kate Bush .
The 80's were great! No worries and fantastic music. I'm 56 and really miss those days. I still play my old records and see myself walking around Rotterdam in my New Wave clothes shopping for music. Dutch radio was fantastic in the 80's. Concerts, DJ's playing their own music etc. The city filled with Punks, Rock a billy's and New Wave kids. I wish I could re-live my youth. Great times that I really miss.
I was a teeny punk way back then, and thought anything with a synth was soulless bollocks - but I remember watching this silently with tears in my eyes. I re-thought everything because of this.
Thanks Vince and Alison ❤️

35 years ago ,,,,,,where has my life gone
probably like mine working like & for a cunt and nothing to show for it
If you don't know and you expect other to know. Well you gotta wakeup and make the best of your life forward. Best luck finding your future.
Hey Alonso, maybe he/she meant it introspectively and not literally. No need to get so snippy ya know.
Fuck you scared me cause I'm 24 and I feel old duh fuck I'm screwed lol
I was nearly 5 when this was released wow where does time go time doesn't wait for no one what a brilliant song
The release of Upstairs at Erics was when the Eighties REALLY started.
Always chills when I hear Alison sing. Thank you, Alison.
I was 18. It was a time full of dreams.
One of the greatest love songs of all time.
Fuk love life's about one thing only Money nothing else 💰👍
dreadful..and horriffic music..its not even music... ffs what planet are u from..its 2019 ya moron
@@leehollebon3393 sounds like capitalism got you. What a shame.
Timeless classic. The genius of Clark and voice of Moyet ... this track just doesn’t date.
This is one my all time 80s fave's but Alison's understated performance of it here will never date. Her movement and expression add so much to the song, you can tell she came from a soul and blues background. Simply sublime.. she's got that gospel choir sway and feel.
Aren’t all TOTP videos just lip syncing?
Watch the video for Is This Love. I fell in love with the whole band.
a great song... still loving this song in 2023
WHAT A VOICE
WHAT A VOICE.
Britain at it's very very best. 👏👏👏👏👏
Andrew Barrett superb Andrew
Brexit baby ! This is why Britain does not need to be dictated by Europe !
@@shr3ddur I m agree. The pop music so great. In France we don't want Europe too. Neo liberal aliénation. Frexit. "To be in England in a summer time, look my love, close to the edit" lol
@@shr3ddur Oh shut up
@@deniscarteron1430 Go and live in England.
I was 12, the 80s were just starting. They took me in and never let go!
Great description, never let me go either.
Such a simple love song, no dramatic production involving soaring strings, just a basic statement of love. It's brilliant.
I graduated from high school in 1990. I had a Jeep and I used to play my Yaz cassettes over and over. Well, 30 years later and a few gray hairs, and I'm still cranking them. Still have the Jeep and love to take it out on nice nights with the top off and cruise to this one!!

17 April 2022, almost 40 years! What a masterpiece
Cheers for the reminder Alison….. 40 years today!
I'm Irish remember watching this in Ireland on top of the pops BBC 1 about 7.30pm on Thursday night beautiful husky voice so unique and original 👌 she is a gem along with Vincent Clarke of course 😀
Not sure what being Irish has got to do with anything in reference to this song.
This was just pure magic ,back in the day, what a fucking voice she had ,like no other ,bring back them times .
Indeed
Indeed is the right word bro .
OMG!!!! 😱... So many sweet memories... 😪... God save The 80s 🙋🏻🙏👏❤️❤️❤️

She looks better today than she did in 1982!!
Who is listening to this in 2021? Such a simple, yet beautiful song.
Queen ..she informed my. Voice...x
The genius of Clarke and haunting vocals of Moyet!
Superb!!!
One of the greatest songs from the whole decade
Needed to be used in a film!!
Released a month after my Mother died so it resonates with me each time I hear it.And great to know Alison Moyet is still going strong.
Beautiful song 👏🏻
Gorgeous
What a great duo they were, vince's skill a as songwriter and keyboard player and Alisons vocals made them among the best.
Vince is very humble about his keyboard playing skills, sometimes admitting he's "a one finger player".
However, this was actually a strength; he said that because he's not a shredding virtuoso like the synth/keyboard guys like Jon Lord or Rick Wakeman, if a song didn't work on just a guitar or a piano, he wouldn't arrange it with his synths.
Because he's not classically trained some of his ideas might be completely different to how a song would normally be arranged...hence Yazoo/Depeche Mode/Erasure's instantly recognisable sounds
(I'm a Vince Clarke fanatic..cant you tell?LOL!)

that voice - so beautiful
The most beautiful song of the 80s.
I was a teenager then ... And this music is like a smell which reminds you suddenly of this time ... Oh damn, how fast is the time passing away
all time best singer ever for me..i watched her in concert.and .along with Annie Lennox..she was the voice i sang in..and what a gift..ty Alf..x
Alison and Vince, perfect harmony comprising vocals and music. A classic composition, we salute you both.

Super Song, ich war 17 Jahre alt und richtig verliebt, man wie ist die Zeit vergangen ist die doch so schön war. Erinnerungen sterben nie. Gruß an Karin H.
Best Pop Duo ever
It feels like the 80s was the last unmanufactured era in music. I love this.
Three words.. Stock, Aitken, Waterman 😊
Vince Clarke = Genius, this was before my time but got into Yazoo in the 90's when I was older to listen and not playing with my lego lol but wow such amazing deep song my misses cries every time she hears it daft cow
I saw Alison Moyet in the Autumn of 1995 in Nottingham. What a treat! Gorgeous voice.
My God...the memories. I played that entire album incessantly in college. Love this song.
My neighbour plays this on her piano and it's such a nice soothing melody I just melt!
PURE 80S Magic
After all these years I still love this song ❤
23 thumbs down?? How is it possible not to like this..?
Beautiful! ❤ Still playing this song today 😍
Love her voice, songs, makeup and her! Love this song! ❤
17yrs in old in 1983, it's not just us older generation that love the 80s, my two teenage kids are constantly listening to 80s music......
I was 17 x
@@jaynesilvester2721 good times.
Incredible ❤
Alison's voice is extraordinary and this song is sooooooo timeless!
Alison and Vince Clark, a magical combination. Once in a lifetime dream team and they created music which introduced the world to synth pop and ushered in an era of melody and tech. Never again will there be such a duo. Wish they had made more music together. It was part of the soundtrack of our lives.
.... that final verse always gets me
Love this song 🎶
God, this song still tears me up.
😍ONE OF THE BEST VOCALISTS EVER!!🤩
35 years old on 16 April 2021. Still timeless!❤❤❤❤
I will play this track at my Funeral. All the family know.
Back to the old and goodies
I was 13 when this song came out, the 80s were a great time to be a teenager.
yes endeed, look for this song for 30 years... and i find it today... lot of emotion :')
Looking from a window above, it's like a story of love
Can you hear me
Came back only yesterday
I'm moving further away
Want you near me
All I needed was the love you gave
All I needed for another day
And all I ever knew
Only you
Sometimes when I think of her name
When it's only a game
And I need you
Listen to the words that you say
It's getting harder to stay
When I see you
All I needed was the love you gave
All I needed for another day
And all I ever knew
Only you
All I needed was the love you gave
All I needed for another day
And all I ever knew
Only you
This is going to take a long time
And I wonder what's mine
Can't take no more
Wonder if you'll understand
It's just the touch of your hand
Behind a closed door
All I needed was the love you gave
All I needed for another day
And all I ever knew
Only you
Heaven
Thanks 🙏

OMG. I love this song!! I was just 10 years old when it was initially released in the UK.
Ended up here from Alison Moyets twitter account...love the 80's for music
Beautiful!!! I watch this everyday and it only gets better each time. Alison owns this song.
At the time I was into Heavy Metal, everything else was shite, but as I have got older,I learnt to appreciate a lot of the music of that era,I'm 52 now and realise how good it was
I LOVE YAZOO
I am 28 and I love this song more than the current generations music

Wonderful
As a vintage synth fan I find it amusing to watch a very focused Vince Clarke playing an unplugged monosynth with both hands :-)
Great stuff, happy days, I remember them well ...thumbs up.
Best voice and singer in the 80s, from this song thil
love the "80s...pure music and creativity
Good old Alison and Vince C. Despite the fact that I only started listening to Yaz around 1988, I still miss them.
Yaz? That's an awfully Canadian thing to call them. (We already had a band named Yazoo here, so their records were released with the name "Yaz" instead.)
Traumhaft schöne Musik, die Musik meiner Zeit und meines Herzens. Mir kommen die Tränen wenn ich im Herzen und Geist zurück Reisen tue....
Love the juxtaposition of the hi tech music with the soulful voice.
Pure talent, turning dirt into gold.
Great song
Electronic genius
Beautiful inside and out Alison Moyet
If you get a chance to watch the BBC's "Synth Britannia" from 2009, I really recommend it. The one they did on hippie music, "Psychedelic Britannia", was extremely good as well.
That voice piercers you soul no matter what generation or country your from.
Vince Clark’s musical genius and Alison Moyet’s striking voice, the only similar pairing I can compare from that era was Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart.
80s adele. lovely cover.
Lennox and Steward were and still are musical geniuses. They truly help shape 1980s electropop! Clark and Moyet are clearly their equals!
Fingers Crossed of. Would say Adele was a poor imitation of Alison
@Sparticus Booker When Alison left, Vince looked for a 'similar voice' and got Andy.
I always thought this song was from Erasure. I only just discovered it was the lovely Alison who sang this timeless song.
driving with my BFF, windows down, singing this at the top of our lungs. red light, car pulls up windows down, she joins in. BFF and I old enough to remember when this came out, red light car looked like a teen. Allison Moyet, for all ages!
Great song lve always loved Alisons voice
