I'm German and I'd love to see some Germans in NL trying to speak Dutch. Dutch people try to speak all possible neighbored languages, German, English, French. I'm learning dutch and always when I try to speak Dutch in NL, people are extremely friendly and happy to hear a German trying it.
Hallo, in meiner jugend gab es deutsch unterricht auf die niederlandischen schulen. (nicht alle) Ich glaube nicht das es damals niederlandisch gab in die deutschen schulen. Also kann ich mich vorstellen das es fur deutsche schwieriger ist um niederlandisch zu sprechen als andersrum. Kein problem fur mich. Aber immer schön wenn die es zu mindenst versuchen!
'Mof' has a German origin and is used for more then 400 years in the Netherlands. People from the east of the Netherlands are often German oriented but in the west they are English oriented however it's a little more shifted to the east because of the many German tourists that visit Holland by car
Hier is het bewijs dat er ook Duitsers zitten die een praatje in het Nederlands kunnen houden :P. Nederlands is gemakkelijker dan Engels voor duitstalige. Het probleem is maar dat vele Duitsers er te lui voor zijn het te leren of geen betekenis aan hechten. Maar ik wil er niet lid van deze soort Duitsers zijn. Zo vele Nederlanders geven zich de moeite om Duits te praten en ik wil tenminste een van de weinigen zijn die Nederlands leert ;-)
It had nothing to do with hate against Germany. And as a Dutch guy I can say that the hate feeling isn't kept alive. As a matter of fact the Dutch feel more connected to germans then to the english, especially in eastern regions of the Netherlands. And yes indeed, we kick ass in learning multiple languages, because our country is too little to be significant as a dominating world language (however Belgium is following our trend pretty good)

Well, that's true. But that has nothing, or little to do with WW2. Belgium people make fun of dutch for being greedy and dutch people make fun of belgiums for being dumb (both not true) That works exactly the same way with german people. Some stupid people in holland always post comments like Moffen (which means something like: gerry, or something related to WW2) but in general people don't hate germans because of their history.
@remmidemmi01 Also wir haben Westerlauwers-Friesen (Provinz Friesland) und Westfriesen (Westfriesland, historische Region der niederländischen Provinz Nordholland). In den Niederlanden werden Westfriesen eher wie Holländer gesehen (obwohl ihre frieseschen Wurzeln).

Ill keep this in English so the trouble it would take me to make proper German sentences will be for the Germans who will try to read this. Someone here said, atleast we try to speak German. I've never seen a Dutch speaking German, it's always like: "Entschuldigung, ich spreche keine Englisch." And when that happens they always add a weird accent. Well, it's not making it any easier for us.
we are arrogant? you can say what you want but we as germans were the people who was beaten by the dutch in 1990 by the WM -.- we are neighbours acept that... i were so often i holland and i have also friends there and they said too that that is silly to have this trouble versus germans und dutch people... also sorry for my worse english xD

@plaagbeestnl well thats clear. dutch has german roots, it developed from the german language. also, your country is so small that everyone has to speak good english unless you wouldnt be able to travel nor trade. but still, im german and do speak english and if i visit holland, i love learning a little dutch because its such a cute language. I know some dutch : "en stukje brot ashtublieft" , "ik hou van jou ik kann niet leven in en wereld zonder jou" and "pak me hard en diep" ;) ;)
ik denk dat het voor ons nederlanders makkelijker is om duits te praten dan duitsers nederlands... ik kan ook prima duits en ik pikte het sneller op dan mijn vriend (hij is een duitser) nederlands op pikte
I think it's hilarious! And I'm Dutch myself. It's very simple. We (Dutch) speak German both in Holland and in Germany, since we actually all have learned to speak German in school!! Try to find one German who learned Dutch! They don't speak Dutch for the simple reason that they can't! Do the Dutch speak Chinese when they are in China? There are so many funny examples of Dutch literally translating their sentences into English/German. (E.g. I hate you all very welcome! I Fok horses, etc!
One collegue of me made a Dutch-course because she liked the language. But when she traveled to netherlands no one wanted to speak Dutch to her because all if them could German or English.

das ist kein niederländer, weil er es mit dem akzent zu sehr übertreibt. er spreizt das förmlich, und das machen niederländer nicht. der tonfall und der akzent stimmt, nur ist es wie gesagt bei niederländern etwas dezenter...

Der Typ muss ein Hollaender sein, weil fuer richtige Deutsche ist sein Hollaendisches Akzent einfach zu gut!
Das denke ich auch sehr stark oder muss dort zumindest gelebt haben sonst geht es nicht
