2020 VCAA Mathematical Methods Exam 1

  • In this video, I work through the 2020 VCAA Examination 1 for VCE Mathematical Methods.
    Please note that the Study Design in 2020 was altered to include only a small part of the Probability and Statistics Area of study, hence this exam is not necessarily a good representation of the exams you can expect in 2021 and 2022. Having said that, all of the questions in the 2020 exams are assessable in 2021 and 2022.

    This paper is a 1-hour examination, and so consequently this video is more than 1 hour long. I wouldn’t envisage that you watch the whole video, but you might find it helpful to be able to skip ahead to any questions with which you had difficulty.

    at 1:14:08 why does the bracket of the log turn from x into 2x?

    error on 8c, terminals r the wrong way :)

      No, they're correct. The required area is given by the negative integral of f(x) from a to b, which is the same as the positive integral of f(x) from b to a. This is exactly what I did in the solution, and it results in the correct answer as per the examiner's report.
