I've been playing the drums for most of my 52 year life little brother and let me tell you, you are an amazing drummer. There's an old drummer named Buddy Rich, you may have heard of him, Buddy would have absolutely appreciated your style. It's like the drums "speak" for you, they express whats going on inside you. Keep spreading the joy my friend! You are a joy to listen to and appreciate!

Gordo when I saw you play on buckets, didn't think it would be much different than the drums, but thanks for being so honest and telling us how it was quite hard to master it at first ,so any other person out there doing the same as you, will now know that it's not so easy to change instruments. Gordon you are a genius either buckets or drums, you obviously have a natural talent and what's great is seeing you really enjoy playing. Good luck to you, keep on going things will get even better for you I'm sure. 👏👏🙌😀💖✌

I think it takes a very unique and rare talented person to be able to play the buckets the way you do with the type of heart and soul you put into when playing them. I also see that you've put the same heart and talent into learning how to play the drums. You're one very strong willed and dedicated individual and that will take you very far in life. Keep up the awesome work you're doing, not just for your fans but for yourself as well.

You go Gordo! It's wonderful that you were able to use your fan base to motivate you to speak openly as you did. Not sure if you did this knowingly but what you said was very relatable. It will certainly inspire some to be more open and accepting of their shortcomings and see them as opportunities to improve instead of weaknesses to be avoided. If it's anything, you've at least moved me by being real.

Not so much a different sound as a DIFFERENT PURPOSE for a TOTALLY DIFFERENT TYPE of MUSIC. When playing buckets YOU ARE YOUR OWN SOLO COMPOSITION, which develops as you go forward. The sole purpose of modern "drums" is to set a background beat and accompany other instruments within a composition. To my knowledge there are few to no contemporary solo pieces written entirely for popular drum sets alone. Drum solos are exceptional pieces played with or within an entire composition.
African "Drums of Passion" (Olatunji"), and "Jungle Mating Rhythms" (Chiano) from the 1960's are examples of pre-written compositions for drums and percussion instruments which resemble BUCKETS more than modern Drum sets. Unlike the buckets, the beat compositions are pre-composed and can be repeated by different players at different times if they "follow the music". Like the buckets, the drums ARE the music. Olatunji includes supporting chorus and "vocals" Chiano is more tribal and includes other supporting percussion "instruments".
Playing the Buckets is like being a specialized singer. An accomplished Pop singer can't sing opera without starting from the beginning. Ask Lady GaGa how long it took her to learn to sing passable opera!

There is contemporary music where the drums play a big part of the music. The obvious is Rush, in Rush every instrument is brought to the forefront. But that is too obvious. If you want drum centered music go listen to the solo project of George Kollias, it is written heavily with the drums in mind. Gojira is also very rhythmic and drum centered. And of course Meshuggah. I am almost sure Tomas Haake is the result of a successful experiment by the swedish government to mix human and octopus DNA. Tomas Haake is octopus supreme and if you love technical drumming prepare to have your mind blown :P

I know everyone's a critic, but allow me to throw my nickel into this fountain :). ba da pshh....* in the end the only opinion that really matters is your own so you do you ;). I'd say one of your strengths as a drummer as of the date this video was recorded is you have great hand control that kicks my butt in comparison and I watched one of your street performances that has some fancy stick tricks as well in it that would rock so much and steal the show in a concert! Now if I were to suggest one area that you have probably already assessed then it would be to definitely focus on improving your foot work...again, this is only based off of the two youtube videos I've seen of you drumming so just ignore me if you think you've already got it taken care of, but that aside, I can promise you once you get into double kick bass, and just as good with your feet as you are with your hands you'll have an insane amount of fun and will drive everyone mad with hours of non stop jamz (i.e. neighbors... family...anyone else living within earshot.) One of my idols for excellent control over foot work as well as hand work on a kit is Thomas Lang and you absolutely cannot go wrong checking out his skills! Take a look at him and he has some drum lesson videos that unfortunately I don't believe you can just find on the internet for free, but check out his performances and if you're serious about mastering the drumset he is your Yoda, and whether or not you care for starwars you get what I'm saying I'm sure. He does an excellent job teaching you how to translate your hand work directly into footwork. Of course after the lessons you simply add your own style to it and people everywhere will throw you up there with the rest of the best drummers of all time. It takes courage to get online and show people what you can do, but screw the negative peeps, there's bound to be fans out there who'll love ya ;). Keep rockin. Sincerely, some other drummer taking a break from life and found you're videos. Thanks ;)

Good artists are humble and have sense of acceptance for order to improve and they crave for more learning. Got 1 sub here, Gordo! I admire you being humble here in this video.

I would say about 2/3 drummers could play that solo. Nothing insanely fast or odd, but fast or odd certainly doesn't mean good.

HAHAHAHAHAHA that ending was fantastic! Very good structure, more so for an adlib, and you're definitely secure in your technique. I was taught that great composers know when to pull back and not have everything running on all cyclinders all the time and you certainly showed your expertise in that.
