And realize the VALUE of human life. Cause we all struggle not a reason to end it. So went from sucide is a tragedy to sucide is a choice.

I think its definitely possible to justify euthanasia in certain cases, my only problem is giving the government that power to decide whose lives are or aren't worth continuing. I don't doubt initially it may start of for only people with seriously painful, debilitating or traumatic and un-curable diseases, however i think it is short sighted to not think that eventually the government would move the boundaries to allow 'euthanasia' on people who are just a burden on the welfare system, and risking that is a dangerous game to play when the cost will be lives that can never be given back.

Life is not obligatory, life should be valued. The moral ethic standpoint of euthanasia and letting someone else choose if ur eligible to die is disturbing, the fact that terminally ill patients are presured by their financial situation, their lack of dignity and self worth due to their illness plays a huge part on the influence whether or not they choose euthanasia, death shouldnt be the first option in mind because euthanasia is just a planned suicide and its ethically and morally wrong.

@The_Black_Anarchist Nobody is forcing anyone to live, it's already super easy to die. It's about not making it appealing, not making it corporatized, and not making it a medical option, because the strongest of misery can also be temporary, and many times it is. There's no way to tell in the midst of a crisis whether someone can recover, and the last thing they need is people telling them they're of sound mind and should flex their free will when they're at their lowest. That type of mindset can be an info hazard to people who would have otherwise recovered if people had been resistant rather than supportive of death.

That is not entirely true. I knew an elderly man who fought terminal cancer. Every time he was asked how he was doing his response was " I am blessed." He did not say that because that's what he thought everyone wanted to hear but because he truly believed that he is blessed. Sure everyday was a struggle because of the affects of the cancer. But he knew that his suffering was only temporal and that soon he would e going home to Jesus. The difference is that he was not leaning on his own understanding but rather his focus was on god above rather then his present circumstance. There are many other people who I also personally know who also faced the end of life in the same manner. At least these people did not run away from their problems. But instead they put their faith and trust in god that whatever the outcome of their circumstance be, that in the end they would be ok. And now they are in haven with Jesus. The fact is no matter what spin you try to put on Euthanasia it is no different then suicide which is not the answer.

There is a deeper problem. Euthanasia means too that you are either sick of people or that people can't help you anymore. Many take this as a personal insult and I guess this is one of the main reasons they reject it. "How, what my company is not good enough that you want to survive and stay with me?". But in the end it's a problem of authority too. The human species accepts it that the strong decide the fate of the weak, regardless of how they suffer. I think it's pure violence and dictatorship to enforce your opinion in this issues on others and denied them a peaceful death.

Some people dont experience devastating loss until much later in their life, others experience it very early and in large quantities. Don't assume that because you've been sad a few times and haven't killed yourself, that means that everyone's experienced your same level of depression and simply couldn't soldier on.

I literally have no idea how respecting ones right to die alongside the right to live contradicts an egalitarian society in any way?
If life is a right then dying by will should be an option, otherwise life is not a right but a obligatory thing thats imposed on us since the day we are born. And since we are able to offer humane death, but choose not to, that means our life is literally being controlled by the system that refuses to let us use this option that would be available if they didnt inhibit us from using it. If we didnt have the option to offer humane ends then it would be a different question.

Nobody who doesn't live with terrible mental or physical illness should be trying to control the lives of those who do.
In fact, nobody should try to control the lives of others. This is why rape, assault and murder are all illegal- someone's will is imposed on another, in turn causing harm.
The audacity of trying to control others is astonishing and inhumane, and the arrogance of thinking that one knows better about another's decision regarding their own suffering is atrocious and deplorable.
We live in a society based on free will, it is a cornerstone of function. Why then do we simply cast this to the wind when suicide is concerned?
The problem with the current paradigm is that people's right to take their own lives is encroached upon via restriction: those with mental health issues have relatively humane methods of suicide removed- firearms, drugs, etc.
This creates a more dangerous society, and forces desperate people to take drastic action: suicide by cop, suicide by train or by jumping in front of a car, etc, which then creates more suffering where it needn't exist.
If you're going to restrict access to lethal means, then you'd better have the tools to solve that person's problems, bearing in mind that therapy, both traditional and pharmacological, isn't a panacea.
Moreover, the current paradigm creates situations in which people don't seek "help" due to fear of losing their rights; people with firearms simply shoot themselves without warning, because they know that if they seek help they'll likely have their right to possess said weapons removed and be forced to end their lives in more excruciating, lengthy ways.
Wasting opportunities to alleviate unnecessary suffering, in the name of supposed "morality", is un utterly ludicrous notion.
Forcing a suicidee's loved ones to bear witness to the fact that their final moments were spent in agony unnecessarily isn't helping anyone.
Forcing suffering people into desperate, degrading positions- hospitalisation, painful, botched attempts etc. is not heroic, it's brownosing of the worst kind.
People need to remember that they aren't Gods, and they therefore have no right meddling in the affairs of the bereaved.
Stay in your lane, don't increase the misery of others (many of whon have faced horrors you can only imagine) whilst foolishly thinking you're helping. Karma might just see you suffer as a result, then you may just face the same horrible cycle your arrogance has created in the lives of others.
It's their life, not their parent's, not their friends or relatives, not yours. Theirs. When enough is enough, don't make them die in pain for your own ego.

    Rebuttals:
    1. It's unjust force people to live longer than they want even if that would result in funding research or innovation. Let's say that 50% percent of people like whole milk and 50% like nonfat milk. Meanwhile, there's a company MilkTech that is researching techniques to make nonfat milk taste more like whole. If more people bought nonfat, it would be easier for MilkTech to obtain funding. Should we force some of those whole milk drinkers to have skim instead to spur research? Clearly not.
    2. There's an easy fix for this, which is remove the bureaucracy entirely. But if that's too radical for you, just think of it this way: the reality is that some people's lives are better than others, and even to the point that some individuals' lives are not worth living. Should we deny this fact to make people feel better? That seems to be your conclusion if you believe we shouldn't think of people's lives' worths in this way.
    3. Perhaps the easiest rebuttal. Partial legalization (as in having to appeal to a bureaucracy in order to kill yourself) is better than blanket banning. At least there's some freedom available to the individual instead of none.

Nobody, outside of a child/parent relationship, has a right to someone else's ability to provide a service to them - especially one that they find ethically objectionable. Therefore, nobody has a right to force someone else to kill them. Further, calling it a dignified death is begging the question. You have to establish what dignity means according to criteria that is universally accepted (or you're just vandalizing words to fit your idiosyncratic philosophy). Then you have to demonstrate that having someone kill you prematurely aligns with that, objective, definition of dignity. And it can't be an appeal to subjective preference or emotion because this is a question of law and, therefore, public interest. It must be based on something we all share and is mediated between us. Subjective ethics are not shared between us... only objective truth (or the natural law) can be described in this way.

I don't know your channel, I was just searching for some ideas for my thesis, so I don't know if you're familiar with Law studies, but, if you are, you should know that it is much more than just public interest.
I'll be using a Kantian approach applied to bioethics (my field of interest), which sounds counterintuitive seeing as Kant was against suicide, but despite that, his own exceptions for the latter can be analogically extended in favour of euthanasia.
While I agree that subjective ethics isn't shared, one's own medical and mental condition is factual and diagnosable, and one's chosen course of action should be guided by one's will, denying this person from this right would contradict your "egalitarianism" argument, sic, "nobody should have the authority to decide who should live and who should die", because, if that held true, one would be able to choose to freely die under the appropriate conditions, which, in and of themselves, are not a violation to "egalitarianism", just as the conditions set to get, say, a driver's license aren't.
I'm not vandalizing words, I'm putting together a rational, science-based, thesis, because that's what Law should be, rational.

These criteria are usually around level of suffering and whether there's a chance they could be cured. They also check to confirm the person is not being coerced. The criteria all depend on the rules put in place by the jurisdiction you're in.

If a person believes their suffering is intolerable, they will try to find a way to commit unassisted suicide. Legalizing euthanasia will simply help lift the stigma off such a decision. The only real problem that I see with euthanasia is the doctor's emotional pressure - a person that dedicated themselves to saving lives has to end one. I believe it would be more moral if the "final cut" was made by, say, a machine that could be only set into motion by the patient themselves.

Ummmm I'm not healthy. I have been diagnosed with severe depression, anxiety and PTSD disorder. I had to quite my job, and the numbers of abusive marks on my own skin made during panic attacks are a testament to how hard this road has been for me. Not to mention, surviving many suicide attempts, which I am thoroughly grateful for. I've had my life saved too many times to count, and I've come far since then.
I know depression will pass. Or, are you saying that if I have a real hard day, I should just give into the depression and suicidal thoughts?
No, thats why its a battle every single day. Your brain is sick. Just like if you broke an arm, had a cast and couldn't write or type for a bit. Is it worth it to remove the cast to relieve the itch, or do you wait it out so you can ACTUALLY HEAL?
Suicidal thoughts are symptoms of the disease. See how it gets muddy here, and its not easy to make sweeping generalizations of people?
I see the "opt out" option and enabling the disease by making it "okay" to give up. And its a slap in the face for those still fighting even as some of their favorite celebrities give into the illness.
An old lady in Belgium with two daughters requested to be euthenised. Shes depressed after she lost one daughter. The other daughter, has no idea her mother is doing this. And I have a feeling as the old lady doesn't want to tell her, that she won't know until her mom is gone. She didn't need to seek therapy, she tried anti depressants on and off for "a few weeks" and gave up.
Grief is normal. Pain is shitty but literally every human being on the planet faces it in WAY WORSE WAYS than we do. And they push through. Euthanasia is definitely an option for those in such severe pain they cannot hope to live a life of some sort of semblance of normality. But just opening up the gate and making it normal has dire consequences. Suicide is already the leading cause of death worldwide. Or are we going to pretend to be okay with that too?
I think you should reconsider your points.

So who are you to decide if they should endure such a low quality of life just so that they don’t risk “giving up”. I'm a few minutes in and I think this is already riddled in silly pesuppositions. Suicide is an incredibly uncomfortable experience in itself, and, if given the chance, most people would prefer to live comfortably. That's the whole point. So, there's no need to worry about it becoming trendy or turning into an industry killing quick fix solution. That's ridiculous. Sure, suicide may disproportionately affect marginalized groups, but it's less a problem of suicide legalization than it is improving the quality of life for eveyone. Then, there's your mention of people that "shouldn't be allowed" to kill themselves. This is so painfully arbitrary. People have a will over their own bodies regardless of anyone's judgement. The criteria people often give against letting the average person die is, in all cases, trivial and nonsensical at times. How would you even go about measuring suffering, for instance? If someone wants to end themselves, let them. Involuntarily imposing on someone will is immoral no matter what. It's kind of like the argument surrounding abortion. Even if we grant that whatever is in the womb is a person, that person still doesn't have the right to use his mother's body with her consent. It's so plain to see.

So, I've reached the end of your video and I've listened to the points you make, which are extremely important. It is true that legalizing euthanasia might lead to forms of discrimination, which we must actively work to prevent. However, I am staunchingly in favour of both "active euthanasia" (lethal injection/MAiD/assisted suicide) and "passive euthanasia", which should be (and for the most part is) a basic right, but it is still frequently called into question (for context, I live in Italy and there are people who oppose "pulling the plug" even if that is the patient's wish).
Euthanasia should always be strictly regulated by certain criteria, in my opinion: autonomy (= the decision has to come from the patient, not from anyone else trying to coerce them; this might mean mandatory counseling at the hospital about palliative care), complete clinical transparency from the doctors involved, ethical counseling if one so wishes, maturity (one has to be of lawful age to decide - euthanasia for sick kids should be regulated with even stricter rules). Finally, the patient should be of sound mind and capable of rational judgment.
The guidelines shouldn't be framed as "oh, since you're sick, you're disposable". Just as we give special aid to certain parts of the population (economic, social, etc. facilitations given by the government) and they are not given to other people who might want them since they do not need them, the same should be said for physician assisted suicide. It should merely be an option, if the person volountarily chooses it, to alleviate their extreme pain. It shouldn't be something common, but something that is there as a last resort and a form of mercy.

It's inhumane and unnecessary to leave a person in this state against their will.
And for what good? One can barely produce anything of worth in this state, and suffer for the privilege.
      It's a lose-lose situation.

My grandmother begged to breathe for years. My mom was dependent on enteral feeding because she couldn't swallow. And I started showing symptoms of Huntington's disease last year, and I'm only 19. I'll end up in bed & die like them in a few years.
I just want to die peacefully, without losing all of my muscle control & becoming a conscious vegetable in extreme pain. Is that too much for your morals?

I disagree with the notion, that we as a society would decide the value of a human by making this option of assisted suicide available, but rather would be fully supporting someone's own decision that the value of their suffering is not worth the remaining time it takes to endure it.
I believe that if someone of sound judgment makes this decision than as a society we should honor that choice.

I think its odd that you believe that by the state granting people the ability to end their own lives they are some how less worthy of life. Isnt the opposit true, if the state denies you the ability to end your life doesnt that if anything, make you a lesser class

4:33 Psychiatric cases of a Euthanasia in the Netherlands accounted for 1% of the total for both 2015 and 2016, unlike Cancer which lead with 73% and 68% respectively*. You’re gonna need more to your Slippery Slope argument than the fear of a few mental health case headlines. (Not to mention the cases were quite complicated, involved and above board).

    1. assisted suicide equals insufficient funding for researchers?
That's like saying if you allow people to drop out, the society won't support the education system
    2. alledging assisted suicide as unjust discrimination?
most advocates of assisted suicide appeal to the idea of voluntary acts (as emphasized by suicide), it's not about asking people to die, it's about providing a possibility for people to choose from in place of their suffering.
    3. egalitarianism
this is a very interesting point, I support this argument.

Walk one day in the life of a person with a chronic pain condition that cycles the pain all day long, that no amount of percocet, vicodin, or morphine will help them. Walk one day in their shoes and then tell that person, "you have to experience this pain for the rest of your life'. Then go judge why some one wants to end that existence. You talk about various reasons why euthanasia and assisted suicide is a bad idea. The only reason to be considered is "pain". That's it.

Can I first say, I I support the right to decide when I end my life. I fully expected to be against the subject matter that objected to my own personal view. I congratulate the team that rationally argued a ethical issue. I genuinely want a reasoned debate and I can only see a concensus after many points and beliefs have been put on the table. This is a topic that will split in two the, it's my life and my choice believers and life is not to be taken under any circumstance adherents.
I believe I and only I have the right to end my life, nobody has any right to make me pass away in pain and distress, or to spend years dribbling into a bowl.
Medical advances have increased life expectancy by decades for the lucky first world people. Natural selection has been relegated to second place in the journey of a single human being. Medicine has overtaken natural happenings and consequently there are billions of people walking this earth today who, in the natural world, would have not passed on their inferior genetics.
I'm going off point, but credit you for offering reasoned debate. This is a highly emotive topic, but it can still be argued in a civil manner.
