Wow! I used to live here before relocating. We lived right by Chalbi drive. I'm shocked to see all the apartments and larger business buildings within the area. Lavington was such a suburb lavish area at my time. Quiet and not as busy as this at all. There were no apartments, (at all) the Jaffery sports club had just being constructed and it was barely operational, I think it started off as a golf club (not sure we were younger) our "hung out" spot was Lavington Green shopping center(now a mall and also shocking) and it had our favorite bakery. For swimming we went to Parklands Sports club for free for dad had a membership there. Younger school years, I went to Mullberry House School which was more about arts and crafts, games, learning one self, being taught to read and write. Factors that I teach my kids now for no child needs to be stressed out reading calculus in 1st grade. It was such a great school. Every friday we baked a ginger bread man. We would walk to Lavington Church every Sunday - not sure if its still there or St. Marys church (depending on how idle we wanted to be). I miss Lavington Green shopping center. It had beautiful jacaranda trees. When they blossomed, we would always try and catch the falling flowers in the soft wind. I miss the man that used to have a sweet stand right there too. He was a life Saviour. I miss the school busses picking us up. We all went to different schools (literally all my 5 siblings and I all went to different schools - still not sure why) but anyway the only busses that I ever saw coming to pick other school kids (siblings, neighborhood friends, other kids i didn't know) from the Lavington shopping center were Braeburn School, Brookhouse, St. Austins, Makini School, St. Marys, Kilimani Junior Academy, Braeside School, International School of Kenya, and St. Christophers (There may have been a few more but I remember these ones specifically for I and my siblings / friends boarded them at different times). Such a nostalgic memory. I had the best childhood. I thank Kenya for providing such a beautiful environment for that. Oh and Sarit Center. It was just for books and a few other dull shopping stores. I hear they now have a whole mall with eateries. I'm still shocked at the housing situation though. Our old house had 2-3 or more acres of land in just one house. All the gated community houses in that area had about the same amount of land for we would go into each other's houses to play. The only house we didn't ever go to was a military house that was right opposite ours lol. The head of the military lived there. He always had real soldiers manning the home at all times and all we ever saw were military vehicles going in and out of there. We were scared for they always had huge guns strapped on them. Oh well. I miss that life and should write a book about this beautiful place and all the experiences it had to offer.
I must say this melody is just top notch...👌soo calming...relaxing and touching to the very soul. I love and have enjoyed this nostalgic trip. ❤😊 Thank you for NOT spoiling it by talking. 🙏👍
wow, I've been abroad the last 10 years and wanted to see my childhood home for nostalgia. but I'm shocked! It's so different from what I remember. so many apartments. infact there is one place I saw some flats where I remember there was a swamp. 10:03 I hope they got that fixed 😮
I used to live at lavington green flats above the shopping center in the early 80 to 90s when i moved to the US. I have saddly not been back to Kenya since. 1983 to 1993. I cannot believe my eyes! I dont recognize anything! Thank you for this shocking but nostalgic video. I guess they tore down the flats
Wow. Been almost 20 years. So many changes! What happened to our quiet suburb? 🥲 Lots of development so it feels like a new place to me. Loved the old shopping centre (now turned mall I see). Gas station still there though. Thanks for this. 🙏
The owner of this place who is a kikuyu man,why is he letting people to mistreat other especially at mbunzi munch ,when i was with cur nothing happend to me, during world cup final something happened to me there, from jaffery to the mall ,they should investigate for the unnecessary death of people.
No they moved out a loong time ago, their base is Runda, Kitisuru and the likes, now they are moving to Naivasha for bigger outdoor spaces so that they can come to Nairobi with their choppers. They dont want to mix with the "common folks" lol
@@ianwesley2569 yes, the upper middle class. Trust me, the rich people moved out of Lavington eons ago when the middle class started growing. Those ones live in Kitsuru, Muthaiga, Runda, Karen and most recently many have bought ranches and moved to Nanyuki, Naivasha and Tigoni.
