Randy Rhoads' taste in his note selections, his phrasing, his use of dynamics, legato and staccato notes, using different scales over chords, and how he communicates emotions, and even his personality, in his playing are some of the reasons I still love his playing (and writing). I started playing guitar in 1986 and he was a huge influence then and still is today.
I think what makes the first two albums very special and something that Ozzy has never captured since is that the musicians we are listening to thought they were in a band and were writing songs as part of a band and you can feel and hear the magic unlike the revolving door musicians that have come after
Indeed. And Blizzard Of Ozz was a BAND. It was never meant to be Ozzy Osbourne (except in Ozzy's mind, of course). They would have succeeded just as well, who knows. I bet they would have done more stellar albums than Ozzy did later on.
U got that right I seen randy do it in Norman Oklahoma I was 14 ,1981? 55 now greatness WOW I've listened to that song more than Ozzy never gets old luv it🤘
Oh for sure! The song itself is my all time rock favorite!! The solo is as incredible and special as Randy was! Ozzy’s best group of artists/musicians ever! Rhoads, Kerslake & Daisley.
I love being able to hear this without the vocals. You can hear all the instruments more clearly. The bridge comes and Randy plays the chords one note/string at a time rather than strum them. Sounds so beautiful and melodic. Can hear Bob's bass and Lee's drums much clearer as well.
Black Sabbath made Ozzy what he is now. Back then I would have bought Ozzy and the Muppets if they made an album. But you're correct..these first two solo albums are the best thing that came out of the Sabbath break up imo. I saw Randy twice, unfortunately Daisley and Kerslake were replaced before the start of the first US tour.
Wrong! One thing Ozzy haters don't realize is Sharon may have taken the spotlight off Bob and taken a lot away from him but it was Ozzy's band and her job was to get him back on top after his departure from Sabbath. It is sad the way the industry eats people and spits them out. No one suffered from this more than Jimi Hendrix. Bob's case is nothing new as Bon Scot said "It's a long way to the top. Here is bob Randy and Lee without Ozzy. I hate to be the odd man out here but without Ozzy, it wouldn't have gone anywhere. Ozzy was in Demand, many Sabbath fans thought it was all over for Sabbath and Ozzy after he left. I will say DIO did a good job in helping Sabbath stay on top (IMO) I don't mean to offend anyone but if I do get over it.
This was not ozzys band.... Lee said he the the others would not do blizzard of oz band project unless it was a 4 ways split in the profits.... Lee was unsure Ozzy Osbourne could handle the vocals because of the drug problem he had....black Sabbath just kicked Ozzy out because of a bad drug habit....problem was the contract was a verbal agreement and not set to paperwork yet... Sharon and her dad stepped in and took the reins away from the rest after the first album came out and blew up in sales...the rest is history....
I love this. That band was excellent. Bob's lyrics were excellent. Randy was phenomenal. Amazing to hear it without vocals. Somebody commented - I don't miss Ozzy. Haha.....
Because Bob and Lee wanted what they were owed and promised. And Sharon wanted it all. The only reason she kept Randy around was she didn't want the secret getting out.
because together they had power & would eventually overthrow the boss's ....Sharon led oz like a blind donkey...oz wanted back on top...sharon wanted control , power & a man...they're both to blame.
Lee Thank you very much!! You are a great drummer. Changed my world instantly when i heard you play the track 'i dont know'. Over the mountain blew my mind! Rest in Peace!
This tune hits so damn hard. Bob Daisley doesn't get enough credit for his contributions to song writing, lyrics and putting a lot of the in the arangements together. So much so that Ozzy and Sharron ended up begging him to come back after realizing Ozzy really can't write
Thrash metal owes its soul to Randy Rhodes, which few blokes acknowledge. Kirk Hammett was definitely listening to and copping Randy's riffs on this album.
Fuck yes he was ! In case some people havent noticed listen to this guitar tone. It was groundbreaking. I defy you to find it anywhere else before diary of a madman. I defy you to not find it a few years after its release
Ozzy was not a writer( he never wrote any material or lyrics, swallow that!!) All these guys wrote the material backed him up and ended with the short end of the stick!
Hating on Ozzy, how edgy! Dio fanboy? Look man, they all needed each other for the band to succeed. Ozzy had the vocal melodies and iconic voice that people recognized from Black Sabbath. Lee, Bob and Randy brought their talents and great musicianship. I can't imagine those two first albums without Ozzy singing in them.
It's not so much about Ozzy it was what Sharon did !!! Discrediting Lee and Bob after all their Hard Work !!! They were The MUSICAL TALENT and Randy Too !!! NO MUSIC NO OZZY !!!
Lou Dog, Sharon & her dad we’re con artists. Taking from everyone they could. May they rest in Hell. I can’t blame Ozzy. He was a blind fool/sheep following the shepherd.
So amazing Ozzy wrote, played all the instruments , and all the lyrics to all his solo albums!!!... Haha!... please put Sharon in Jail for insane greed!!!!
I saw the Blizzard of Oz tour with Randyit was amazing. It was Ozzies first tour without Sabbath I’m not lying when I say there were only 1500 people there everyone was in there seats spread out all over stabler arena in Bethlehem pa when Ozzy cam on he said everyone get the fuck up front so we all did. I hade tickets to seethe Diary of a madman tour at the same place and I couldn’t believe it when my friend called me and told me Randy was dead. The concert was right around April fools day and we all thought itwas a joke, no joke we got there this time it was sold out and Brad Gillis I think was on guitar. I could be wrong about that part I guess I have to check who the first one to play ig Randy’s spot after his death.
i can understand why people say the music sounds better without Ozzy, the Blizzard of ozz band one of the greatest ever, only horrible management did not allow them to get a long time together
Bob Daisley is the architect of those great records; with off course Randy and Lee; not mention of them in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame (Lee and Bob); is very low by Ozzy
Thats what it should sound like ,no rs or ta ,just the original band minus ozxy on vocals and btw, like another rumor put out there,Frankie Bannilli stated he thought up the drum part, not true ,how could he make up.the drum part when it was written out with these 3 so the guy is smoking crack but kudos to this audio!
Lee plays that same drum fill going out of the 2nd intro break in Crazy Train into the 3rd Verse and also Flying High Again after the first chorus. I doubt he stole it.
It’s actually damn near impossible to do. Kind of like when you mix paint and then you want to take out certain colors. This sounds like a studio version with the vocals muted. You would need a perfect acapella of Ozzy and you could use phase to cancel them out but it wouldn’t be perfect and you’d still hear some vocals.
@@jamesbond6365 People are hearing stuff that simply is not there, you are hearing it without vocals so your mind is playing tricks, this is simply the original recording without the vocals
Great musicians, great song. I've always thought that Randy's guitar is too loud in the final mix. Bob's bass gets drowned out. Flying High Again is another example of it being too loud.
are you alleging this is the re-recorded version? it's not...the drum and bass are in sync here. on the re-recorded they are off as they played to Randy's lead not knowing how it was produced
That intro is legendary. Rest in peace Lee Kerslake.
It belongs in a “Top 10 drum intros” list.
Ian Paice plays a similar intro on pictures of home.
@@andersaxelsson4779 YES and played it first. I'd even go so far as to say that this is more than just similar to Paice's intro

Did not know Lee had passed? Will be greatly missed
LEE Kerslake !! Uriah Heep !!! Rest in peace thank you for the music .
Lee was such a phenomenal drummer!
God, Randy was just fkn great....man.
If randy had never died sharon would have screwed him over just as bad as she did bob.. lee.. jake and everybody else
sad but true.
He was going to quit, anyway. Going back to playing and teaching classical guitar. He never wanted to be a rock star (and didn't enjoy it, either)
😄
Fuck Sharon!!!
Such a despicable person!!!

When Lee Kerslake was in Uriah Heep same great drumming!! And he also was backing vocalist behind David Byron.
One of the greatest openings in music
easily, and of course a legendary guitar solo
Bad ass I love it the original Randy Rhoads
Now this is what a band should play and sound like. The first two albums are light years apart from all the other ones.
That solo thou omg!
This was magic in the making such amazing talent...
Over the years I have come to realize that Ozzy was the idea behind Ozzy Osbourne but he needed to have an awesome band to make him appear awesome.

This was really an important song in Randy's growth into what he was becoming as rock guitar and his arrangements. 👍

At least. Sounds triple tracked to me.
