This is a really great idea especially for smaller ships like corvettes in order to save weight but have multiple options on one system because of placement constraints or as shown with a carrier where you can increase the type of response variety on multiple sectors without having to add so many separate turrets or launchers. It might take a long time to do testing and certifications for each type of option in every module though. I think module like this, with these type of easy to change canisters makes a lot of sense. Multi-function seems to way forward on basically everything, including gun (dual anti-ship, anti-air, anti-ground sometimes via programmed ammo) and missile systems (multiple attack vectors and anti-air and anti-ship), etc, so it makes sense a turret can be multi-purpose like this.

@@teeanahera8949 alot of VLS systems once fired are empty until back in port since ship to ship rearming is considered to dangerous. Though my worry is what is the logistics of reloading, the one pod looks like a 22 shot RIM-116 launcher, the problem with that is each missile weights 162lbs, meaning without the launcher body it'll be 3564lbs in just missiles. A sailor is not going to be able to just slide that in and out without a crane, and equipment to move that around the deck. In some cases decks would need to be reinforced.

That seems smart to have a “reload” in self contained module. It allows the ordinance to avoid a lot of the rough handling and exposure if the ordinance was “loose”. It allows you to reload quicker as well. And customize easily between a variety of modules depending on mission. One of the hurdles is getting a trained Navy crew to be able to reload it quickly. I assume the modules will be much too heavy to be man portable and some type of equipment will be needed.

Can the modules be reloaded by hand in place, or only by replacing the modules? Assuming the larger weapons in the one module are Rolling Airframe Missile class then the modules are going to be 500+ kg apiece. Remember that this would be installed on ships. Those swarms that we saw in Israel, and ukraine relied heavily on GPS guided (or even unguided), short to medium range rockets and drones. That means that for large swarms to be used, it recquire a certain amount of planning, and the swarm can’t easily be reprogrammed during flight, meaning that they aren’t very good at killing moving targets. Now, because this is to be installed on ships, I think it can already deal with typical swarm that they might meet, as it’s very unlikely a ship would risk facing such attacks as those on Israel and Ukraine due to being generally far away from the shore, and also keep moving making them hard to target for most GLS guided weaponry. Other type of guidances are far more costly and thus less expected to be use in a swarm of more than a few dozen of them

Even if used only for decoys, then can fit more decoys + providing onsite stowage (unlike traditional which needs to be separately stored & the fixed DLS empty, the frigate USS Stark comes to mind). Do not see a reason to include anti-submarine munition, unless it is more of anti-TORPEDO (or surface moving drone). But even that should be in different gunpost, because anti-air (and surface), and anti-torpedo munnition will probably need different angles for deployment. Therefore, you could aim and shoot torpedo, but by that action loose few seconds on acquiring, aiming and shooting down a missile, mortar round (or a drone).
