    Wow everyone was into it. Example: 41:57 till the end.
    And to the violist, you are the chillest person I've ever seen.

    Wow....electrifying performance!!!! What bold, energetic playing to do justice to this motive force for striving which is the heart of the universe. No timid, hedged and half-mumbled declarations of love here. The outpouring of love just takes what it demands to make the world complete and perfect in every aspect...an chamber of sounds of joy and delight reverberating through to the end of time.

      I think the greatest chamber music pieces ever written are all the piano quartets and piano quintets by Brahms and Dvorak. I have no problem choosing this work as number one if we need a number one, but these pieces are all essentially tied for first place in my humble opinion.

    Brahms hesitated for long about the final form that he should give to this score. A convincing score for two pianos exists. Brahms was obviously aware of the competiton of the similar quintet written by Schumann in 1842. René Leibowitz considers that the work of Schumann is richer in terms of music content, but that the form of the work of Brahms is more solid. Indeed, this quintet op. 34 is quite typical of the writing and the peculiar melodic style of Brahms. The interpretation is outstanding. Fortunately, this quintet remains in the common repertoire, and I had the pleasure to hear it in the concert hall of my town several years ago, Toulouse, France.

    Really spectacular performance - I so admire the creative choices this group made. However, I have to say, I wish Mr. Herzog would try to look engaged while his colleagues are playing - especially when he's playing with them. A little eye contact goes a long way, even if you don't feel you need it. If you're going to put a video of yourself on youtube, you have to take the image you're projecting into account, and looking bored isn't a good look for a chamber musician. Just my two cents - they all played beautifully.

      +Meredith Crawford Every member of this quartet does his job perfectly, and clearly whatever communication that needs to be happening is happening. What they do is working perfectly. Sorry you don't like how he looks, but unless he's actually causing a problem with ensemble, it really doesn't matter. Oh yeah, and I guarantee he's not bored. I just hate it that this ensemble posted its video of such a superb performance and your reaction is to post such petty criticism of the violist. How dare you?

    • @NanaNijura
      @NanaNijura 8 років тому +1

      +Evan Kleve Why are you so aggressive? She started her comment by saying "Really spectacular performance". Even if you do not agree, her criticism was constructive and friendly. I agree with both of you to the point hat he does look bored but that it does not matter for me. If she thinks it matters, she is certainly allowed to share her opinion.

      I agree, Meredith. Mr. Herzog looks sloppy. And that matters because the presentation of oneself throughout a performance reflects upon how much one cares about one's performance. I imagine Mr. Herzog's colleagues are not happy with his visual presentation. On radio, fine. Here, not so much.

    Brahms, Op.34: Seit ich das Werk kenne, war der 1. Satz mir nahezu unerträglich; zu hören fast nur Holzhackerei; und immer die Versuchung, erst mit Satz zwei zu beginnen. Aber jetzt bei Ebene und Mudyants: Die Holzklötze sind in feinstes Filigran verwandelt!
