Thanks Jack, My 73’ Silver Face needed a new speaker and I ordered a Jupiter Alnico right after watching this video. It sounds beautiful. That you!

Glad to hear you say the stock speaker isn't great - I thought I was just being overly picky with mine but that confirms it somewhat! Thanks for the video.

Nice Video once again Jack! Both are very good, don't know if I'd call one speaker better than the other, as stated depends on what volume and tone te Champ is set at for each. Guess it truly depends on what tones a player is searching for. Know my Champ has had the speaker changed back and forth depending on what mood and style I'm playing at the time, then I'll swear that is the "best" speaker. Months later decide to revert back to the Alnico and once again think it's best. Then again after playing near 5 decades have learned, nothing ever stays the same, we evolve (or think we do), sometimes step back and go to our roots (cut out all effects and be basic hearing only guitar and amp), then do it all over again, learning something new each and every time along the way. Will say when wanting to step back and go right back to basics,( just a guitar and amp) usually it's the Champ that'll be pulled out and used. It makes you honest, doesn't hide anything, making it a great tool. They are a fantastic little amp for sure. Cheers and thanks for your vids!

Nice comparison. I like both. Prefer the alnico in all settings but the fully cranked amp. The alnico sounds clearer and more articulate and I like that a lot but with the amp cranked the hi end sounded harsh to me and the low end too much. The ceramic sounded better to me with the amp cranked. However I don’t like much that amp cranked with either speaker, maybe with any speaker.😁😁

Alnico hands down for a fender for vintage tones!

Thanks Jack! I bought the ceramic 8SC based on this video and I am very happy with it in my 5 Watt rig.

It’s definitely more aggressive - you can get more drive at a lower volume which is great for alot of people. With the 12ax7 it’s surprisingly loud

Really enjoyed the video and I’m a die hard Jupiter speaker guy. Have them for all my amps except sometimes my Champ. Because I found another option which is the Tone Tubby 8” Alnico with a hemp cone. Man I would absolutely love to see you do a video and shoot it out against the Jupiter alnico and see which one the masses think sounds better. The woody tone of the hemp cone when driven harder with the 12ax7 would be interesting to hear against the Jupe

I had to watch twice lol. They both sound great. I definitely liked the alnico overdriven. I think I liked the ceramic clean though🥴 I’ll take your word for it since you are actually in the room with the amp though lol. I do watch a channel of a guy who works on amps and he was talking about the speakers in the champs being from the door of an old Chevy 😂

Right? Totally agree. I'm sticking with the alnico but its totally stylistic, neither stood out to me as "better"

Gotta see a Jupiter alnico speaker go up against an actual vintage Jensen alnico speaker, made in Chicago. Back to back. Make that demo, bro!

Great playing & great shoot out Jack. I am not biased (pardon the pun) when it comes to ceramic. I like MFD pick ups which use ceramic bar magnets beneath the coil. But, that said the Alnico speaker was just much more pleasant to my ears.

Both sound good! Alnico sounds a little better cranked but both would work.

Cleans, absolutely ALNICO. For drive sounds, kind of a toss up? I have a 5e3, and have been using a Celestion Blue, then a Jupiter LC, now back to the Blue. Interested in the WGS G12Q (ceramic) which has the speaker breakup, but has more definition? Dialing in what works best for you with your Tweed is a process. Speakers in this style of amp, makes a big difference.

I have champs and other fenders with alnico and ceramic. I always thought the ceramic speakers sound like the guitars have thicker strings on....if that makes sense.

  • @Fenderlove76

I play a WGS G8C in this Amp with a Telecaster. Its a bit darker and fatter than the Stock Speaker and less Boxy. Tighter, pressed and louder. But still enough highs. Better with Pedals. Always a good Tipp is a BBE Sonic Stomp Pedal olways on. Sounds much bigger!!!

Thanks for the effort the Alnico sounds more articulate with better note separation The ceramic is fine but nastier cranked

Ya know they’re more versatile than just a one trick pony, but they still have a sound. I get that - if you don’t like the champ thing, then there’s no reason for one

@@JackFossett I know a few that love that amp! It is amazing the difference we hear in an amp! I honestly like Eminence speakers. Very reliable and consistent sound. Great thing is that we all have choices!

The alnico sounds more "authentic" however I did like the ceramic tone too & would be happy with that choice.

Lots of bottom for an alnico. Both are really nice.

  • @windsweptguitars

I’ve said it many times, if a vintage style Amp originally came with a ceramic speaker, you go with the best ceramic speaker. If it came with an AlNiCo speaker, you go with the best AlNiCo speaker. That champ should never have a ceramic in it.

Alnico all the way from what I could hear. Warmer and less bite on the high frequencies. Wider frequencies.........

Alnico for the classic tone and more articulation. Ceramic if you want drive and distortion.
