To date I've stuck to a standing throw, but your walkthrough made so much sense that I thought I would give it a try on my lunchbreak. Result? It came together so easily and felt entirely natural. When I did it right I felt the coil / uncoil working for me, and threw a few really nice shots. Of course, I also scattered a good few all over the place; up, left and right. I figure this gives me a really good foundation to work on what the rest of my body should be doing. Thanks.

For all my pigeon toed friends out there! Don't be scared to do a 3 step run up. It helps stop over-rotation when trying to flare! Think somewhere along the lines of Corey Ellis or Tristan Tanner.

Honestly, many people throwing below 400ft could move to 3 steps and not lose any distance potential. My current record is 380ft and there were a lot of problems that had nothing to do with taking more steps.
Only thing where I see extra steps be useful would be sideways brace being easier to time to gain maximum power.

Switching to a 5-step from a 4-step has helped with my consistency, accuracy, and even a little distance. Thanks for spelling it out in such a clear manner.

Can't wait for the next video. I have been working on adding a pump to my backhand and it has me thinking a lot about were my mental focus should be during my throw. I've found that if I pump correctly, snap a mental picture of my body shape and disc position at the peak of the pump, and then target the slinging of my wrist to end at that point...good things happen.

Well done! Will implement this into my slo-mo practice immediately! Thanks!

Awesome... A step by step with stylistic options... the way you explained that was spot on. Even with saying do what is working for you out of the options. I think im better pre loaded into the athletic stance but dont always do it. Hmm. I might stay focused on this for a bit in my practice and see if there is any noticable differences. Thanks for providing the mental framework towards an area that could produce better results in my game in one simple choice. Preloaded athletic stance or not.

    Thank you 🙏
I implemented a 4 step run up but the 45deg angle step I saw immediate results; my hips were finally engaging and weight transfer happened naturally. I’ve been trying to engage my hips all year with something repeatable but that step is a game changer

Oh snap!!! Mikey with the commentary and adding 500' at the end. Can't blame him.
I'd incorporate that into any distance query in every day life. "Yeah, you go a 1/4 mile and take a left at the stop 🛑 sign. BTW, did you know I can throw a disc 500 feet?"

How do you avoid a default hyzer in the "athletic" stance with the chest over the toes?

I feel like I need josh to do a form review of my shot because I’m still messing up somewhere but i think it’s in the arm and not the walk up or foot placement

Josh, I had a thought, I was thinking to myself "self....". your recent videos had me thinking. Is there a way for you to put a camera on your head or camera equipped glasses, so we can see what you are looking at, as you throw? You have many times made it pretty clear that we needed "in slow form as we practice" to look, make sure your release is nose down, that you are actually into the deep pocket etc. But when I go to throw after I do my weeks of muscle memory training, I can't recall I'm actually looking/seeing anything other than that spot 10-15' out just to the left of shoulder square. It would be neat to see what you boyz are looking at/seeing when you throw . Are you actually looking at the disc as it comes into the deep pocket, are you still looking at the imaginary spot, or again are you in fact following the disc in and then obviously as your shoulder forces the head rotation, you are obviously picking up the disc flight and watching, but that initial movement, what are you seeing?! Make sense?

5:11 just pointing out that even if this is possible to work around it is so much easier to develop some heel steps or balance issues this way 🙈

So, I don't like the additional 2 steps. I find that I have to start off the teepad. That said, do you really gain that much momentum from those 2 steps. Also, I prefer to have my weight on toes but not actually on Toes. What is really important is that you come off your toes instead of tje heel.

Random production tip...I think if you turn down your mic on the recording days a tick or two, EQ out a little bit of the low end / bump up the highs a tick, then compress and add a little bit of volume you're going to sound alot better, and not distort or make any computer speakers fart.

    • @OverthrowDiscGolf

Are you a sound guy? DM us on Instagram. I’ve got no issues paying someone to get us a good EQ for our setup! I record in 32 bit so there shouldn’t be any clipping but it could be my audio preset

To be fair, Anthony has done a few videos where he features or references OverThrow Disc Golf, as well as getting some form advice from Josh in one or more of them, so his comments shouldn't be taken literally, or as an absolute. There's a general understanding the form and coaching community exists, but not everything is 100% understood or even taught the same way, and most people can benefit from form coaching. Anthony understands this, and has sought advice from multiple form coaches, pro disc golfers, and even other disc golf UA-camrs on a variety of things. 🙂
