Fun fact: That clock tower question was a trick question. The tower is called Elizabeth Tower, Big Ben is just the bell inside the tower
so... Does that mean, that among those 3 answers. The correct one is "Big Cock"?
St Stephen's Tower was the original name, it only became Elizabeth Tower in 2014
@@TheProgot And Big C*ck is the name of parliament's resident rooster
@@TheProgot No it wasn't. It was originally named "Clock Tower" (We're not very imaginative here.) Journalist's referred to it as that, because Parliament sat at St. Stephen's Hall, which is in the same building complex as Elizabeth Tower, but it has never actually been officially called that

There may have been more stylized month names at various times historically, but in modern Japanese they're just 1月、2月、3月、etc.
Amogus
Is that still read as Kagetsu or just Getsu now?
@@DarkEnigma1115 二月 (nigatsu) means second month, 二ヶ月 (nikagetsu) means 2 months.
The old names for those months are as follows. Just note that they are not exactly equivalent to our months in terms of days.
Mutsuki (睦月) / January
Kisaragi (如月) / February
Yayoi (弥生) / March
Uzuki (卯月) / April
Satsuki (皐月) / May
Minazuki (水無月) / June
Fumizuki (文月) / July

"Does Japan not have names for the months, it's just numbers?"
Meanwhile, the Julian / Gregorian calendar: Janus month, purification month, Mars month, two months whose name origin we forgot, Iunia family month, Iulia family month, Octavius month, and then the months numbered 7 through 10, which are however the 9th to 12th month of the year. Great system.
so, for that 7-10 being in places 9-12, it's becuase before there was the julian calendar, they had the other 10 months in a 10 month calendar, then augustus ceaser wanted to have a month in the middle named after him so he added august, and then julius ceaser decided that was a great idea but also he was greater than augustus so he added july ahead of august, pushing 7-10 back to 9-12th
@@delphy2478 Unless you're talking about a different Caesar than the one usually called Julius (because God knows that family loved to re-use names), Julius came before Augustus.
@@delphy2478 What happened was, *THE* Julius Caesar was like "oh man, I'm so great, the first Roman Emperor, I'm so important and powerful and amazing, wouldn't it be great if I had a WHOLE MONTH named after me? Like, right in the middle of the year, too, so you get 11 months, and I'm RIGHT in the middle of it, because I'm just THAT damned amazing and important? Yeah, I'm going to do that."
And then Augustus came along and was like "Oh man, I have all these statues of me, and there's bathhouses and temples and buildings with me all over them, and I'm such an amazing and awesome emperor, DEFINITELY JUST LIKE JULIUS, but I'm missing something that Julius had... Oh right! A month! I've GOT to have a month named after me! Because otherwise, I would be admitting that I'm not as great as Julius and that isn't true at all! And it's gotta be right next to his, and have exactly as many days as his, because I'M JUST AS GREAT AS JULIUS and DEFINITELY NOT LESSER THAN HIM. MAKE IT SO!"
Caesar's as a rule had a bit of an ego problem, but from what I remember, Augustus' was weird.
Fun fact: September and October were almost renamed after Emperor Tiberius and his mother, but Tiberius said no.
Also, I looked it up, and supposedly April (Aprilis) is believed to come from the Latin verb "Aperio" meaning "to open" because April is the month that flowers blossom, or open. Meanwhile, May and June comes from the goddesses Maia and Juno.

JDON MY SOUL ❎
STARE YOUR SOUL ✅
The Olly clip was so good, she always knew where the camera was.
We literally need a dedicated video of Koe just going through the literal rabbit hole that is Peko-mama clips of the stream because there's so much GOLD to be found!
One of Mio's hobbies is looking at gems/stones and going on shopping trips (sometimes with other holomems) for said gems/stones. Some of her zatsu tangents go over to gemstones etc to the point where she got the nickname 'Ishisha.' (Alternate from her 'Miosha' nickname; I don't remember if it was a fellow Miofa or a holomem that came up with that)
Regarding the mom incident, we had the opposite happen. While doing a group project, we went to a female friend's house. Her mom ignored the wholegroup, and just talked to one of our friends the whole fucking day, while making the you-know-what eyes at him (to be fair, he was pretty social and buff). We teased him to hell and back for years, saying that he was the mother destroyer, even though he did nothing and hated the situation.

Another Polka Appreciator I see. She really is a bro. I need Ina to give her a hug.
There were some other clips with Polka talking about Pekomama like what Koe said, She was surprisingly natural with stream. Obviously they trained here briefly and chose their Mellows carefully so when she was off script it was very simple; but the way she went about it and adapted so well to the flow, even through nerves.
"Keep your hentai in your brain" is such a good quote, Ririka should put it on a t-shirt.
thanks Koe. just what I wanted to watch. 💪
13:00 this clip is way more funnier because of the music that’s playing while she stares
In Korea we use the word "wol" which means month and we just put numbers in front. I am pretty sure it is the same with China and Japan because we don't have words such as January, February, March and so on.
Considering how the Japanese had specific name for their months ages ago, before using number based names, does Korean also have ancient names for their months before using number based names?
@@tsukinoyuki After doing some research (I could be wrong as well), we do have "ancient words" for each months but they are for lunar calanders. Also the words also originated from China so it wouldn't really count as "ancient Korean names".
edit: After further research, an organization made names for each months in pure Korean in 2003. For example, the fifth month of the year would directly translate to Blue Moon Month
20:25 I'm Taiwanese and from what I know, East Asia culture (witch heavily influenced by ancient China) do have names for each month, but in daily use, most of the country switch to just numbers.
Japan used to use more individualized names for months, much like English, but they fell out of use. Modern Japanese uses a much simpler name convention by using just the month numbers and their suffixes.
English - January
Old Japanese - Mutsuki (睦月)
Traditional Japanese - Hitotsuki (一月)
Modern Japanese - Ichigetsu (1月)
8:57 after enduring an unending terror for so long... she loses it to a fcking goofy runnning animation. the build up is so good ICANT XD
that DS run, whenever I see it, hurts my kokoro...
20:35 In Japan they pronounce the months like the order they have and add -gatsu at the end, like San(three)gatsu is March, shi(four)gatsu is April and so on.
We have a similar trope here in Brazil, but it's for the weekdays.
With the exception of Saturday and Sunday, the rest is an order starting from the number two, since most believe the week starts on Sunday rather than Monday.
The order is the number, followed by the suffix -feira. Monday is Segunda(wich means second)-feira. Then 'Terça-feira' and 'Quarta-feira' (wich have a separate rule, since Terça doesn't mean third, but rather, ''a third of'', and Quarta means "a fourth of''). The other two follow Monday's example, being Quinta(fifth) and Sexta(sixth). The suffix -feira isn't really necessary tho, when speaking informally, you just say the first part.
Saturday and Sunday are called Sábado and Domingo, respectively. These names are of religious origin and are derived from the latin words meaning Sabbath and Dominicus, wich means The Lord's Day.
O sufixo feira vem do latim "feria" e significa data festiva. Era algo mais usado popularmente pra indicar os dias que as pessoas aproveitavam pra fazer negócios, ou nesse caso "ir a feira". Por isso não tem no sábado e no domingo por serem dias santos.
Similar to the Arabs.
They named their day with just number except for Friday and Saturday. They also start the week from Sunday instead of Monday.
In arabic
Sunday : Ahad = one/first
Monday : Isnin = two/second
Tuesday : Salasah = three/third
Wednesday : Arba'ah = four/fourth
Thursday : Khamsah = five/fifth
Friday and Saturday are Jum'ah and Sabt. They are different due to religious reason.
Friday is called Jum'ah due to islamic friday prayer when all the Jama'at(the believer) come together to the mosque
Saturday is called Sabt due to christian's and judaism's sabbath day.
KOE you clipped off the best part of that FWMC clip my guy
Petition for a new grp to debut. Called "HoloMoms"
At the beginning of the stream, it was called Mamalive, but Holomoms rolls of the tongue better
The names of months and days are a mix of Roman and Nordic influences depending on which language you speak. January comes from the god Janus who looks both at the past and the future. July and August come from Julius Augustus who shoved all the other months two places back. This is why September (Sept, seven) is the ninth month and October (Octo, eight) is the tenth, etc.
Most days of the week are named after Norse deities: Tuesday after Tinnus, Wednesday after Wotan/Odin, Thursday after Donar/Thor, Friday after Freiya, etc.
But the Japanese didn't have these influences. They have adapted to the Roman calendar but call the months by their numbers without names.
The Japanese days of the week are easier to remember: Moonday, Fireday, Waterday, Woodday, Goldday, Earthday, and Sunday work in a cycle where the upcoming day 'defeats' the current day. Interestingly, both Sunday and Moonday are on Sunday and Monday respectively.
It is so good to know Ollie is staring to your soul get approval by Koe 😎👍
Yes. Months are just numbers with the kanji of moon (月) in japan.
Ex: 1月 = January
That's similar to Indonesian, "month" and "moon" called as "bulan" here
@@cemanz But indonesian use the same name as English, not Bulan 1, Bulan 2
@@divingradish you would actually be surprised a more out of city conservative population of Indonesian actually use "Bulan 1" to point out the month
To be fair, so are september, october, november and december. They're just the numbers 7-8-9-10 with 'ber' after lol. And they're not even on the right position www.
July and August come from Roman Emperors, and the first 6 I can't remember, though March is probably the god/planet. Our months are much harder to remember for them than theirs for us.
@@windshippingthe original roman calendar only have 10 months starting from March to December. Winter was considered monthless period for a long time
January and February added around 750 BC as 11th and 12th month only moved to the 1st and 2nd around 450 bc

Hear me out hololive should have a holomom branch where all the holomom’s meet up in one call and talk about their children and members
The entire segment of Ollie staring at us weirdly reminds me of Humpty Dumpty revealing he's always been there stalking puss in boots 😂
Probs already got this comment but modern Japanese months are just 1-12 followed by the month. BUT traditionally they have names as well that correspond (usually) to various aspects of the time of year, as opposed to English where a good chunk are named after Roman Emperors.

You can visibly feel and hear the pain in Zen's model. Also Koe, you're forgetting where Pekora got her talent from.
Efectivamente, en japonés no hay nombres para los meses, puede sonar muy básico pero se les llama como mes 1, mes 2, mes 3 etc. ej.
Ichigatsu -> January (enero)
nigatsu -> February (febrero)
Sangatsu -> March (marzo)
In Japan, January is called Mutsuki, and there are different names for other months.
Hi koe!
Yes, months are basically number + month in Japanese (eg ichigatsu = ichi + gatsu = 1 + month = January), but there are classical names ascribed to the months, like “mutsuki” (睦月) for January, but it is rarely used.
I don’t know what to say, boys. Of course PekoMama got the best debut in HoloHistory. She’s adorable. Who doesn’t love PekoMama appearances?
10:31 Yeaaah! Koe agrees with my HoloMoms idea!
if i recall correctly, there are japanese names for the pre-gregorian calendar months, such as they are, but the gregorian months are just called 1st month, 2nd month, etc.
Man, Ririka's english has improved so much 🥹
Ollie is totally me on rollercoaster rides
Indeed, in Japanese there are no names for the months, it may sound very basic but they are called month 1, month 2, month 3 etc. e.g. Ichigatsu -> January nigatsu -> February Sangatsu -> March
I love ao-kun, i can't get enough of her, especially with hajime and kanade
If you ever see a guy in a long trench coat in the middle of summer you can assume they're a Ririka fan.
Honestly yeah, if several VTubers just did a stream of their mothers and they never showed up. It would be golden.

I love Ollie so much man shes so much fun to watch i cant stop laughing at this stareing video lmao
10:08 Did anyone else immediately think of Tenma's rant about how Koe is making friends with VTubers just to get close to their mamas?
Yep, in japanese their months are just said numerically. Example: ichigatsu (1月) = january. Not to be confused with ikkagetsu(一か月) = one month.

About the month names : If I remember correctly, they actually have month names before but it's not widely used anymore. It becoming like an ancient language or something. I learned this by watching Kindaichi though, so you can correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Ririka is within the top when it comes to English out of JP members. It would probably go something like this:
1)Anya
2)A-chan
3)Ririka
4)Haachama
5)Subaru

There's way too many days in between each episode, i need more
Yeah month in japanese is literally just number+gatsu(month).
Like january is ichigatsu, but for april(4) and july(7) for some reason they used shigatsu and shicigatsu. Not yongatsu and nanagatsu.
Koe was eating good with all these HoloMom clips
yeah the months in japanese are just like the number + month, examples: ichi = 1 gatsu = month / ichigatsu is january. The only one that the number is pronounced differently is 9 (kyuu), september in japanese is kugatsu (ku is another form to refer to the number 9). The word Month in japanese is Getsu but it changes to Gatsu when you put it together with the numbers.
Getsu = month, is written with the same kanji as Moon 月, (probably because the moon's phases which lasts almost 30 days)
if anything that I said is wrong in some way, correct me in the replies. Sorry for my bad english, not my mother language
