      Same thing kinda happened to me but our navigation (pretty sure dispatched typed the wrong address) brought us to the wrong address. Got to the door and when the dude answered he was shocked to see a ems crew ready to begin CPR. Spoiler alert the guy did not need CPR he was just watching football.

    Coming back to the field after 20 year absence. My tips. Never let anyone closer than arms length. Skin signs tell all. If the child is silent, be scared. All bleeding eventually stops. Always wear safety glasses. 360 awareness, communication with partners, be safe. Oakland EMT here.

    First day on shift. Witnessed a 4 car MVA on a busy highway. Pulled over so police can block traffic and we can triage. Fire shows up and we divvy out pt's on who can transfer what. We get a guy who's in pretty bad shape. Medic asks me to go code 3 to trauma hospital nearby. My dumbass turns on the lights and sirens on scene in the middle of a highway before we even start moving. Fire and other passerby start throwing rocks at my window to turn that sh*t off.
    If that wasn't bad enough, channel 10 news was there filming the whole damn thing.....

    I got dropped once coming out of the boo-boo bus. 🤣. The EMTs were too busy chatting and the guy following didn't get a hand on the stretcher. Fortunately I landed butter side up.
    The look on the leading guy's face was priceless. I just looked at him and said, "Really dude?" and laughed.
    They both begged me not to tell the hospital staff, and I didn't. We all make mistakes and I wasn't hurt, so why ruin their day?

Luckily it wasn’t the emergent call dispatch said it was… the PIC (paramedic in charge is what they call it from where I come from ) came out looked at me and than went back into the house, and the paramedic from the sprint car came over and helped. We all laughed about it afterwards and bets were placed that the emt students would do the same when they were in for clinicals

    Got in a yelling match with a fire crew over why I was (as an EMT-B) taking a LAMBS 5/5 to our local stroke center after medics cleared for BLS transport and left scene. I wasn’t wrong… but later had a medic tell me we’re pretty much just a ride for a stroke pt not much we can do pre-hospital. Oops.

    Do you think a person could be an emt if they get bad car sickness?

    • @RescueRandy
      @RescueRandy  3 роки тому +2

      Good question. I’m going to assume there would be potential problems but I have a co-worker that has pretty bad car sickness and she does fine. If you want to try it out beforehand, rent a u-haul truck and see how you feel

    Is going EMT-b the best way to get on an (enviromental) emergency response team?

    • @RescueRandy
      @RescueRandy  2 роки тому +2

      ERT have a whole bunch of different positions. EMT is one of them but it’s pretty competitive. You would have to have some decent experience before being allowed on the team. I guess it could be said for any position. Unfortunately, I’m not very familiar with that world. I would imagine paramedic level would be more sought after like the USAR, CERT, and DMAT teams.

      EMT's are a dime a dozen. NOLS has a wilderness EMT class but the accreditation isn't worth much unless you'll be working almost exclusively in back country. Learn ropes or water rescues

      In brooklyn, I know of 3 schools. You have KBCC, that’s a college program so you can go for your associates degree with it too if you wanted. Code 1 and emergency care programs are private companies that also offer EMT original classes.

    Hey so I have a question.. your first day(s)on the job are you by yourself with patients or do they have an experienced EMT there with you to help? Besides your partner ?

    • @RescueRandy
      @RescueRandy  3 роки тому

      Depends on where you work. Some companies put you on a ride-along with 2 EMTs, some have you with just another partner who is hopefully more experienced, sometimes...good luck!
