    Wendel what happened to the crane. I remember a white guy George was the crane driver. I used to go to South pier with my dad DAVID NAIDOO in the 60s. My dad used to buy fish from the anglers who fished at night. The fish used to go to Teddy's Fisheries. I am now 69 yrs. I remember there was a canteen for Indian fishermen. I also saw whales being brought in and then put on the steam train to go to the whaling station. My dad also went deep sea fishing at north pier now ushaka marine is situated.

    Hi there guys I really enjoy watching your videos. Keep up the good work.
    I and my brother started to learn fishing at West Pier from 1986 mostly during our school holidays. We would take the train at Crossmoor Station. We lived in Dandelion Road at that time. I remember your grandfather from 1125. My name is Roland and my brother is Mallen. KP reels was the best in the days. We always came home with fish.

    My late Dad took me here when I was a young boy. Many many fond memories. He thought me to use a KP reel there :) I live in America now and one day will have to visit that place again with my Dad in spirit. RIP Dad aka Sonny Ganesh 1945 - 2020.

    Before those KP were available, people were using bamboo rods with hand made wooden scarborough reels usually turned on a lathe.
    Aussies have a slightly different take on scarborough, they are made by Alvey, much easier to cast with, the reel rotates sideways for casting.

    Hi Wendel, I'm enjoying the videos, only came across your channel a few days now. I haven't been to west in a few years. I know the route walking from the island view station railway to west. Unfortunately I don't know how to get to islandview station by Uber. Is there any address that I can type to get to the train station?

    • @wendelmoodley
      @wendelmoodley  2 роки тому

      Hi bro, type in "Island View, Bluff, train station" on Google maps. Hope that works. Make sure you wearing the right shoes to walk on the train line. Tight lines!

    • @wendelmoodley
      @wendelmoodley  2 роки тому

      It's of "Island view road and Venezuela road" if you search for it.

    Oh by the way my dad DAVID NAIDOO drowned at South Pier in 1966. There were 2 white guys (GEORGE the crane driver told my mum that it was the first time thst he saw these 2 guys. These 2 guys informed the police that a very big wave came and knocked my dad into the sea. If u check in the archive of The Daily News my dad's drowning is there on 26/27 July 1966.
    t these 2 guys

      So sorry to hear of your loss. Unfortunatley, your dad joined the many other brave anglers that lost their lives on South Pier. They are true heroes that risked their lives to feed their families. Their sacrifice will live on in our hearts! Thanks for sharing your story♥️

    • @felixyoghurt3291

      Sorry about your loss. South pier has a very, very bad reputation for that. My father forbade me from going fishing there in the 60's, his father fished off there but the stories were horrendous. You don't have the surname of George the crane driver do you ?
