Thank you for the video. I found your chickens and you very informative, but also funny ... bc your chickens didn't want to behave. I hope to see more of you and your husband. God bless.
I liked your video. Very informative. I found it interesting that you have 213 subs, yet you use an attached microphone. It is hard to believe that so many content creators with sometimes 10s of thousands of subs don't use one. Kudos to you guys. I hope you do well.
I have Rhoad island Reds.. strictly for Eggs..they have a long life span up to 14 years and produce eggs for 7 years Rhoad island Reds are weather hearty and not prone to every disease that comes down the pike..also lays 250 up to 300 large brown eggs..and a very pretty bird..
What is chick feed vs layer feed? I am trying to make my own from azure standard so I don't have synthetic vitamins or soy corn in my feed.. (maybe just some corn in the winter) All organic.. What should I feed the chicks?
Chick feed has higher protien to support growth whereas layer feed has protien levels that help mature hens lay eggs. We get our hen feed from a local source that utilizes corn. Good luck!
Here its 2 stages, kept for 3 years living a great life, and the hot pot lol...keeping chickens as pets is just silly, yes i understand its a entertaining hobby, but the reality is, its sustainable food production.
Thankyou for the info! Just wondering, I have 6 x 22 week old Cornish Cross hens that have open wounds from the roosters which I no longer have…that was almost 2 weeks ago…so is it true that they won’t grow back new feathers till they are 18 months old… I’ve since bought a young rooster that won’t be ready to mate for another 2-3 months..just wondering at what point it might be safe to allow them to be mating again please if you happen to know…
To be honest, I am not sure. We had the same issue with one of our roosters last year. We ended to getting a new, young rooster when we introduced new hens and never had a problem with him pecking at them.
She said 18 months, not 18 weeks. This is somewhat true, as most chicks molt the 2nd Fall of their life. You can say 18 months, but it solely depends on when you get your chicks. For example, if you get chicks in March, then get some in May, and then get some more in July, they won't be the same age, but will all molt their 2nd Fall. Here in South Alabama, my chickens normally molt the end of September. The feathers grow back thicker and fuller to provide them extra warmth throughout the winter. I increase their protein intake, because it speeds up the new feathers to grow in quicker. Black soldier fly larvae really helps them to grow back quickly.
Please don't put extra lights on your pullets and hens. Forcing them to lay more than they naturally do results in reduced lifespan, more incidents of egg binding, prolapse and choking from gulping food down too quickly due to excessive egg production. In the wild jungle fowl lay 8 to 12 eggs per year. Chickens don't need to lay more than 100 to 200 a year. Be good to your birds or you don't deserve to have them.
I see you know very little about Jungle fowl, Do you own jungle fowl?...My main chickens for years have been jungle fowl, jungle fowl lays way more than you are describing, less than a production variety, but enough to maintain eggs as a food source. The other concern about the light is also incorrect, the light can extend your chickens life, my light comes on at 4am, giving them a head start, door opens up at 6:30, they get fed early, they free range all day, get fed again early that same day, light comes on at 6pm , chickens start going in about 6:30, chickens feel secure because they can see with light that there are no predators in the coop, light goes off at 8pm, light let's stragglers know to come closer and enter a safe coop without predators inside, extending life of chickens staying outside. Cruel is keeping chickens in a tiny coop that isn't built right, my coop can survive a cat 5 hurricane keeping my chickens safe during a catastrophic hurricane...EXTENDING THEIR LIFE.
New sub! I am a 7 month old chic Mom of 3. Blue Cuckoo Marans (black), Lavender Orp, and Easter Egger. First two laid on schedule, 7 month/ 28week Easter Egger still not!? Any thoughts? Love ur set up,still getting mine together. Lol. Beginning to get cool here in Southern Rockie foothills. Got 3,1 day old chicks.....no problems health wise. Nice strong Hens. I LOVE THEM. Raised a Tuxedo girl kitty into a cat at same time. Hilarious to watch them play. Cat covered a chic poo, other day. Ha,ha. Very handy in my side yard area. 5 stages recap was great....I can't even find my instructions I grabbed initial supplies. Lol. Every egg was exciting, now fridge is full of them! Gave some to n.d. neighbor who taught me about "Egg Song". And endures it with me.....😅 Tee
I raised 6. Learned a lot. They need attention. They're very intelligent! And funny!😂❤
This was really helpful! Thank you. I am a first time chicken owner. My girls at 10 weeks and we love them so much.

great information!
Roosters tail feathers are rounded and pointy at the end. Hens have square tail feathers.
Thorough!
So ur saying if I pluck the older hens feathers, and super glue them to the 1 week old chicks, they don't need artificial heat.❤❤❤👍
